Front desk excellent service!" - "nice" - "Nice" - "The stay has been satisfactory in general" - "Before the trip, I went through a lot of websites, and found that it seemed impossible to find a hotel without smoking issues--people in Guiyang smoke in public areas including 5 stars hotels. Some complained about cigar smell in their non-smoking rooms--the worst was that it's the same after changing rooms. After reading reviews in Chinese and English, I concluded that at least, Kempinski's rooms are free form smoking. I especially asked for a room on the non-smoking floor at check-in. During our 6-night stay, one day, we found that smoke was fill in the hallway--someone was smoking in a room and had the door wide open. We made a big complaint to the front desk. They immediately took care of it, and didn't happen again. The hotel was beautiful. The breakfast buffet was great--a wide display of selections. Our room was not big, but felt luxurious. The view form the room was great. There were a supper market, shopping mall and lots of restaurants next to the hotel. You can easily get a taxi outside the hotel entrance. I used my name to book the hotel and checked in with my credit card. However, it's probably a cultural thing--I found out at check out that they put my husband's name on the receipt, which I needed for reimbursement. It took a while for them to correct it. Since we had an early flight to catch and a taxi was waiting outside, it did create stress on us. But, they did try hard to satisfy customers. Overall, I still gave the hotel full-point rating."

- "Let me begin saying I am a hotels.com GOLD member and always read reviews but never leave them. This hotel was SOOO amazing I must let you know. As an American living and traveling often in China I try to always choose 4-5 star hotels for English. This hotel didn't disappoint. The man at the front desk was Jack. He gave me an upgrade and also allowed me a free late checkout. Wonderful service. The breakfast buffet was possibly the best I ever had...even at much more expensive hotels. The waiter Harrison and the waitress Shmiley were always ready to make my cappuccino and even hold the elevator and wish me a good day when leaving. The head chef, Louis Deng, he walked me around to tell me the different foods and which part of China they came from. I didn't get a chance to use the pool or gym on this trip so I can't comment on this. My bathroom was amazing. Huge bathtub with free bath salts. Shower was huge with a massive rain shower at high pressure. I truly give this hotel an 11/10!!! I sadly don't think I will return to Guiyang but if I ever do 100% staying here! We certainly was not disappointed. I and a friend travel there for a short relaxing getaway trip. We used the hotel spa for massages. I liked my masseuse and she said hers was okay. Since this hotel is located more in the 'suburb' area of the city, we had to take taxis to the city to join the daily tours. The taxi fee varies from CNY 30 to 55 depends on the location we went. We still enjoyed it because the hotel area is not as congested as the city and yet still convenient with eateries and shops. We also went out nearby for foot massages and went for a walk at the park adjacent to the hotel. We really enjoyed the park. It is nicely kept and we felt safe. There were a lot of locals walking and exercising in the park."

Efficient check-in, professional staff, clean and comfortable room as expected of an international chain hotel (Howard Johnson is not a fancy choice... so nothing to write home about). There were lots of local stores and restaurants around the hotel and a relatively modern (but small) shopping mall about 10 mins cab ride away. I took a taxi from the taxi stand at the airport to the hotel. Make sure you have the hotel name and address in Chinese to hand to the driver. It was only about RMB30 form the airport to the hotel (was told that hotel's airport pick-up service charges RMB300). Bell persons were extremely friendly and helpful... but I spoke Mandarin, so not sure of their English level. Breakfast was ok... thou one of the wait staff told me they would charge me extra for fresh coffee. I ordered nonetheless, but they didn't end up charging me. Overall a satisfactory first stay in Guiyang."

- "Nice hotel in a good area, albeit a little far form the metro station for those inclined not to catch didi's everywhere. The only thing that I did not like, and seems to be a running trend with Holiday Inns, was the breakfast. Good lord, I could not even finish it, it was not the worst of the Holiday Inn breakfasts but certainly what I expected, I only had it once then just ordered in for the next few days, it is 58 yuan per breakfast by the way which I believe is way overpriced for what it is. My advice, do not pay for the breakfast in advance, see if it suits you when you get there. Also they will ask you for a 500 yuan deposit, in which you can use to pay for your dining options if you wish. Best thing about this place is the gym, my God the gym is good. Its actually outside the hotel, in the community, a third party gym that has everything you need and a pool. Really good. Anyway everything is completely fine except for the breakfast. I would stay again, just for the gym."
