- "Excellent hotel" - "The Sabah Hotel is a lovely hotel. Our twin room on the 6th floor was perfect with comfortable firm beds and was clean and spacious. Note: importantly the room has a fridge which is not all that common at other Sandakan hotels. The Buffet Breakfast was very good, especially the egg station and food was plentiful. The pool is nicely set in a tropical environment, yet it feels quite open and is of varying depths. There is a good outdoor jacuzzi within the pool area, two slides for kids and a more than adequate gym is close by to the pool area. The Plantation Cafe also served well priced dinners (in addition to breakfast), so there was no need to leave the hotel, except for day tours. An additional Chinese Restaurant is also onsite. We had a really good time. P.S. if you don't have a car, when on day tours pick-up any groceries you may need as it's a fair walk to the shops, but then again that's the beauty of the Sabah Hotel as it's located away from all the hussle and bussle."

Cons Breakfast is a buffet style with Rice, Noodles and Vegetables, and Chicken. Eggs are boiled but almost RAW. You can toast your own bread with butter and jelly. Coffee is ok. The rooms are not very clean. Ours was a Non-smoking on the 4th floor, but it smelled like cigarettes. There is Hot water in the shower. Only one half used roll of toilet paper was available. You get bath towels, but no face or hand towels are available. The neighborhood around stinks like sewer but you can find a few places to eat. Overall the place is convenient for an overnight stay before your flight. "

Some issues: The room that we got was on the ground floor and the noise from outside & dogs were a bit loud. Also, the shower drain seemed to have something that looked like a ciggarette butt but I didnt dare to touch or check. "

- "There are improvements being carried out, which will make a difference in the future. We were unable to get the advertised wifi at all, despite the router being reset many times. This was annoying. On four occasions we had random people enter our room without knocking, which was not okay. Once guy even got cross with us and said we should have locked the door. I had to clean the bathroom before use and despite being given a non-smoking room, the smell of cigarettes was present I. The duvet, towels and there was cigarette ash all over the top of the toilet seat. Cigarette burns were present on the furniture. A local mosque is across the road and while we enjoy hearing the call to prayer, it was not so great to hear each session broadcast over mega-speakers outside. Every mic drop/exchange, everything and with single-glazed windows, we didn't get much sleep. Close to amenities though and staff are nice. "
