Take a break and relax for a few days or more, with wonderful scenery and sunsets. Enjoy scenic hikes, bird watching, ride bikes from your front door, tour the neighborhood in our golf cart or play golf on two of the most well-manicured courses in Tucson, all while practicing social distancing.
Welcome to The Golfing Gecko, our listing on the Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National. Remodeled in late 2019, “The Gecko” has open views across the fairway and amazing desert sunsets. From the open floor plan kitchen, dining room, living room or extended covered patio, you can enjoy all the sights and sounds and tranquility a desert golf course has to offer.
Take a quick look at the amazing reviews we’ve accumulated during our first couple years. Guest comments are certainly your best source for evaluating a property and you’ll be hard pressed to find higher compliments than The Gecko has received.
Before going any further, I need to express that our location is perfect for enjoying the quiet surroundings. In fact, it is not suitable for gatherings, loud music or loud commotions on the patio. Our outdoor area is open to the golf course and properties across the fairway, plus our immediate neighbors. Sounds travel freely and we ask that you 'blend in' with our peaceful and quiet environment. With regards to this, I have more specific information to send if you are considering making a reservation. My “Quiet Enjoyment” letter is meant to assure compatibility between guests’ and owners’ expectations.
The grounds at Tucson National are separated from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city. As you enter the area, you drop down into a valley created by the Canada del Oro drainage. There is no thru traffic, allowing for the quiet and peacefulness of a desert golf community oasis. When you exit, every direction will take you to the sights, activities and attractions of Tucson, Oro Valley and places beyond.
Our single level townhome is over 1440 Sq. Ft with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a den, laundry room and a fabulous open kitchen to the living and dining rooms, plus bar seating. The spacious covered patio gives you the option of enjoying our location from both indoors and out.
Our goal is to provide you with most everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay. Upon arrival, we invite you to snoop around and survey what is typically available for your use. Cooking essentials, herbs and spices, paper products, soaps and hair products, laundry essentials, golf cart and three bicycles are there for you.
Feel free to grab a few of the experienced golf balls we keep on hand. Some areas around the desert courses are like golf ball magnets and trying to retrieve them can be challenging. Let’s just say you could get yourself into a prickly situation!
Take a stroll or grab the bikes and conveniently access The Loop trail system. The paved pathway is over 100 miles of “protected from traffic” pedestrian and cycling routes.
- "This condo is awesome! Rick was very responsive and communicative. The property is very well stocked. More than any place that we have stayed. The location is very close to a lot of restaurants. And the location on the golf course is also great! If I could give Rick a 10 rating, I would. We will definitely try to stay here again the next time we visit Tucson!" - "The condo and community pool were wonderful. Loved walking the bike/walking trail in the early hours."

Make your Tucson visit memorable with a stay in a very unique travel accommodation that only recently became available for vacationers. The Ranch House is one of three guest homes situated on the former estate of playwright Clifford Goldsmith in the historic Casas Adobes area of Tucson. Goldsmith’s work includes Broadway, Hollywood and television, but he is best known for “The Aldrich Family” radio show. Built by noted architect Arthur T. Brown in 1947, this private estate was once called home by some other interesting people. Past residents include: Oscar-winning actor Lee Marvin, movie producer Larry G. Spangler, Kansas City Ford Executive Rudy Fick (the auto dealer mentioned in the FBI’s notorious 1950 UFO memo) and newspaper publisher Carl Winter.
Like other ranches and citrus groves in the historic Casas Adobes area, development gobbled up most of the surrounding land over the years and what remains today is a tranquil 8 acre knoll covered with natural desert vegetation and abundant wildlife. The entire property, which you are welcome to roam, consists of this guest house, a main house (occupied by a nonprofit foundation) and two other guest homes. (Please see VRBO #725631 for the one-bedroom Bunkhouse and VRBO# 767200 for the two-bedroom Tennis House.)
The property entrance is off the main road, but all buildings are set back over 600-1000 feet and hidden from view. It feels amazingly peaceful and secluded here, but in reality you’ll only be about a mile or so from major shopping, dining and travel destinations, such as historic Casas Adobes Plaza, the Foothills Mall, Tohono Chul Park and NW Medical Center.
Private resort-style amenities on the grounds are exclusively for the use of our guests and include a tennis court, two pickleball courts, basketball, shuffleboard and a huge swimming pool (unheated) with views of the Catalina Mountains and city lights of the foothills and downtown Tucson. Sunset vistas over the Tucson Mountains are equally spectacular from here. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby hiking, golfing, horseback riding, and a network of paved bike routes throughout the area that can be accessed right from the end of our driveway!
The Ranch House is named for its romantic, western charm. It has an open, interior floor plan of approximately 950 square feet with a living room area with TV, sleeping area with a king-sized, gel-infused memory foam bed, dining area that comfortably seats four, kitchen with a breakfast counter and washer/dryer, bathroom with a walk-in shower, and ample closet space. Almost barn-like in openness, the Ranch House has a vaulted ceiling with wood beams, two rustic ceiling fans, acid-etched concrete floors, and windows that offer a variety of beautiful views, including the surrounding desert landscape, courtyard fountain and Catalina Mountains. There is also a private patio off of the bedroom area with amazing desert and mountain views! It is very common to see (safely) coyotes, bobcats and javelina parade past your windows as this guest house is near a natural riparian habitat and wildlife corridor.
The Ranch House is beautifully decorated and appointed with all you need for either a short or long-term stay, including a/c, WiFi, basic cable, all linens & towels, dishes, cookware & utensils, cutlery, silverware & glassware, iron & ironing board, and a variety of board games, books and DVDs for your use (many with local or western interest).
The Ranch House is ideal for up to two persons interested in Tucson's history and looking for a unique, high-quality, secluded travel accommodation. We love this place and think you will, too! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
- "Stayed here 1week last year and came back for a 4-week stay this year! Jeanmarie & Kelly are welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. Accommodations are extremely clean and very comfortable. Would not hesitate at all to make a return visit here. Thank you Jeanmarie & Kelly for doing all you do to make this a very special place:)"

The Tennis House used to be home to the Goldsmith Family's nanny. It is aptly named for its proximity to the property's full-size tennis court, just a short walk from its back patio. It is peaceful and secluded with a charming "mid-century meets the west" feel. There are two identical bedrooms with queen-sized beds and plenty of pillows (one has a gel-infused memory foam mattress and the other has a firmer Posturepedic mattress). Both bedrooms have a window, large closet with plenty of hangers and built-in drawers, writing desk, chair, and two nightstands with lamps and a clock radio. The great room is spacious with dining for 6. It also includes a leather sofa, love-seat, armoire and flat screen TV. - "This was our second stay at the Tennis House and it was just as delightful (if not more!) than our first visit. Jeanmarie and Kelly are so welcoming and do a fantastic job of following up to see if you have questions or need anything. It's so peaceful on the property and we enjoyed walking the grounds and relaxing on the Tennis House's patio. Plus, we played on the pickleball court and lounged by the pool, which was fun! The location is also good for visiting all of the other wonderful Tucson sites. This property is a gem!"

- "This was just perfect! Close to hiking, good food, and quiet. Thank you!" - "This cute studio with a private courtyard was a perfect place for my fiancee and our 2 little dogs. The owners couldn't have been nicer! Plenty of space for us, with all the amenities. Bathroom was also a good size. We will definitely be booking again next year!" - "Very nice little place, communication with owners was great!" - "Though this place was small it was efficiently organized, clean and well appointed. The studio room had a small courtyard attached which was very pleasant. It also had a table and chair setup in the sunshine. There was ample parking and very nice washer and dryer. The owners were exceptional, friendly and very quick to address any needs or problems we had. Lee and Laura were very welcoming. Great hosts!"
