Nestled in the trees overlooking the river, in Forest Park. The neighborhood is quiet and you can hop on a trail directly out your door. This is a great space for the outdoor enthusiast that wants to stay close to the city. The location is across the bridge (St Johns Bridge is one of Portland's oldest & most photographed bridges) St Johns is an eclectic North Portland neighborhood with it's own town center. The neighborhood retains its small-town charm with its many locally owned shops, pubs and cafés. Spring thru Summer there is a local Farmers Market every Saturday. Annual St Johns Parade, St John's Ale Fest and the Cathedral Park Jazz Fest are a must! Pack a picnic blanket for an afternoon in Cathedral Park, cross the picturesque St. Johns Bridge and get ready to explore a lovely, lesser-known side of Portland.
Getting Around:
This is a residential neighborhood on a hillside across the bridge from St Johns, 10 minutes to NW Portland/NW 23rd Neighborhood, less than 15 minutes to Downtown. Location is 20 min to PDX and to Vancover WA. A car is advised although UBER is a good option if you don't plan to bring a car. Once you get downtown you can use the MAX light rail to get all over Portland Metro. There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill from the house but public transportation is limited.
Other Things to Note:
- this property is located on the hillside in Forest Park and it is a drive up a steep and winding road to the property. The road can be sometimes slick and hard to access during snow or winter months. An SUV is recommended during the winter months.
-This is a lower level daylight basement apartment and the owners and their children live directly above the property. As with any Basement apartment noise can travel.
-GPS does not accurately reflect the directions. PLEASE read the directions thoroughly before heading to the property
Portland City Code requires that we keep a log with the Name, Address and Vehicle Information for ALL guests. This will be required before check in. If you are renting a vehicle, we will need the License Plate number or we will need to note alternate transportation (ie; air, train, bike) Please provide this information with your confirmed booking.
-You must be over the age of 25 to rent any of our properties.
~You may be required to provide a photo of your Drivers License or Government ID directly to the host. This is for the safety and security of both guests & property Owners, and will be requested at the discretion of Stay in My District.
- No additional guests and visitors/guests that are not registered on the reservation booking are allowed to be on the property after 10pm.
- Pets are allowed at this property and must be pre-approved prior to arrival with an additional pet fee of $50 per pet. This home accepts up to (2) dogs. PLEASE be sure to read and understand our pet policy.
- Smoking anywhere on the property will result in forfeiture of your entire deposit plus can result in additional fees up to $500 for smoke removal.
- Self Check In using lock box. Check-In is any time after 4:00PM and Check-Out is by 11:00AM.
- Housekeeping is required for all stays over 15 days and provided at an additional cost of $50 per cleaning. Basic cleaning including disinfecting kitchen and bathroom, change linens and clean floors. This will be charged after confirmed reservation with an alteration request. If you would like a mid stay cleaning on shorter stays this is an option as well.

Classy, clean and spacious suite located in the gorgeous and quiet Forest Heights Neighborhood, nestled in the West Hills of downtown Portland.
Awesome location and a short driving distance to everything including downtown NW 23rd restaurants, trendy boutiques and cafes of Portland (5 miles), Forest Park hiking, the Zoo, Washington Park, bike trails, Nike, Intel, Providence St. Vincent hospital. It is conveniently located to go on day trips to the beach or mountain (1.5 hour – 2.5 hours drive).The list is endless.
The apartment is on the lower level of our Craftsman home (basement) with a private entrance. The apartment is a one level 1400 square foot unit with high 9’ ceilings.
Our house is on a hill and there is a long flagstone path of 15 well-lit steps that leads down the hill on the side of the house to the unit's entrance. It is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
Our place is good for couples, families, solo adventurers, business travelers and friends.
Our place is not suitable for parties or events. The quiet hours are from 10:00p.m. – 8:00 a.m.
The apartment has 2 separate bedrooms, a full bathroom, a large open living space with a large 51” Smart TV, custom made kitchenette/bar with granite slabs, dining table that can seat up to 6, and an entertainment room with pool table.
You'll have the perfect hideaway to come home to after your days exploring the city and its wonderful surrounding neighborhoods.
Living room has comfortable La-z-boy sofa and recliner chair. The board games and collection of DVD movies are provided for your entertainment.
The living area has a large sliding door that looks out on the patio and woods beyond.
The bedrooms have queen beds. Both of the beds are set up for comfort as their primary goal, with fresh (400-600 thread count) linens to make you feel pampered. Both bedrooms have a generous closet.

The beds were super comfortable, and the assortment of games allowed us to have a one of a kind enjoyable family night. Overall this place is a true hidden gem. I use the word hidden because the only downfall I had was, wasn’t actually the VBRO itself- its was how far it was from downtown. It’s not necessarily close to downtown at least with the directions it took us to get there. A long road of switch backs at a very slow speed."

The space
More about the apartment: The kitchenette is equipped with microwave, induction cooktop, electric kettle, toaster, electric cooker, rice cooker and small refrigerator. Ideal for self catering. The newly remodelled and decorated sitting room and master bedroom are spacious and both give onto a lovely deck overlooking Forest Park. The queen bed is firm with a pillow top with hotel-quality organic bamboo sheets. The bathroom has a bath/shower combination with rainfall shower head, bath towels are made of organic cotton, and heated towel rack. An optional Japanese-style room is available for an additional $50/night and can accommodate another couple or allow for two singles who wish to have their own bedroom, or just as an add-on space to relax and/or meditate. We have also recently installed a two-person infra-red sauna to relax tired muscles and add to your overall well-being which is available upon request for an additional $20 per usage. Only minutes from the hustle and bustle of town, with easy access to Portland's many parks and trails, the suite offers a peaceful retreat for reflection and relaxation whether you are visiting on business, pleasure or both. Mary-Yoko welcomed us and suggested a few restaurants as well as hiking trails nearby, one of which house we took shortly after arriving. We found everything we needed in the apartment. We were pleasantly surprised that a place that felt so removed from city bustle, could be so close to city amenities. Very convenient. THE SPACE
When entering this newly constructed guest apartment you'll find a full kitchen with fridge, range, microwave and garbage disposal. A washer/dryer with detergent and other cleaning products can be found in the closet off of the kitchen. Enjoy a book or game in the living room with a couch that can be converted into a full size bed. Down the hall, you'll find a stand-up desk with office supplies, a clothes closet with extra linens and an open bedroom with a queen bed, complete with Roku TV, and a bathroom with heated floors. Note the bedroom is open to the hallway with no door, so traveling with those you're comfortable having less privacy with is important.
GUEST ACCESS
With your keyless entry code for private entrance, you'll find the apartment on the bottom floor of our home with no shared space. We live on the upper floors and are available for any immediate needs or questions.

Portland is a safe place, but like any city, it is important to be aware of your surroundings. It's common to see homeless people who will keep to themselves. This shouldn’t deter you from enjoying neighborhood walks.

Our gorgeous, sophisticated west-side townhouse is in a perfect location, less than 10 minutes from the Pearl District, the ABC Historic District and downtown Portland, yet very close to major corporations on the west side of Portland including Nike and Intel plus Forest Park and Washington Park. It is just two blocks from Forest Heights' town center, with it's coffee shop, restaurants and stores. The townhouse is perfect for shorter stays (minimum one month) as well as longer executive/'work from anywhere' rentals.

This spacious, beautifully decorated three-story townhouse includes the owners' very special art collection featuring many well-known Northwest and national artists. The two-story living room has a gas fireplace surrounded by bookcases with a 50-inch flat-screen HD TV with premium cable channels. Prime TV, Netflicks, etc. and a classic Bose sound system. It boasts the most comfortable down-filled couch in the universe, which is also a queen-sized sleeper sofa. The floor-to-ceiling glass doors/windows give direct access to the front deck, which is perfect for sunset cocktails, plus lots of sunshine. The front deck also has a full-sized Weber gas grill.
The townhouse features a great-room design, with an open flow between the living and dining areas and the kitchen, enhanced by the new hardwood bamboo flooring. The dining area has a lovely classic-modern glass-topped table with four comfortable chairs and is decorated with antique Air France posters from the 1930's.
We are major cooks, so the highly functional new U-shaped IKEA kitchen with a slab granite counter top and glass and stone tile back splash is very well-equipped, with new appliances and the best cooking equipment. It includes a high-end GE refrigerator plus a Jenn-aire gas stove with convection oven and warming drawer and a brand-new built-in microwave and new LG stainless steel dishwasher. The kitchen features a a Cuisinart food processor, a Cusinart counter-top toaster/broiler/ convection oven, an InstaPot, blender, juicer, etc. Plus, since we love to entertain, you will have beautiful dishes, glassware, and linens of all sorts. We keep a supply of spices and basic condiments for your use.
The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with silk duvets, luxury linens, throws and interesting art. The large, restful blue and brown master bedroom has a vaulted ceiling plus with a spacious attached bathroom with a soaking tub, double sinks and a separate toilet/shower room plus a flat-screen HDTV with a DVD. It also has a large walk-through closet with bathrobes, hairdryer and basic toiletries for your use. The guest bedroom has direct access to the back patio with a teak table and is decorated in soothing tones of green and brown. A full bath is directly adjacent. This bedroom also has a very large closet.
The open loft study/office is very special. It overlooks the two-story living room and has lots of light all day plus a nice view. It is set up as a perfect working environment. Not only is there free high-speed wireless service, but there is a desk with a 23-inch flat-screen monitor and a wireless HP color printer for your use, plus a classic mid-century suede-covered couch for collapsing while you are searching for a new idea or maybe just a burst of energy. The laundry area, with full-size washer and drier, is located between the study and the master bedroom.
The front deck is graced by a bistro table and chairs as well as an umbrella. Since it faces Southwest, the front deck is perfect for morning coffee or sunset cocktails while you are cooking dinner on our Weber gas BBQ. The leafy patio behind the house is quite private. It includes a sustainable teak table, with chairs and a bench to accommodate five people.
The townhouse features gas heat plus central air (almost unheard of in Portland), which is really not necessary 360 days a year, but is great to have on those other five days! The 700 SF tandem garage can easily accommodate your car (we leave our car parked there) and has tons of storage if you are here for a longer stay.
The townhouse is just two short blocks from the village center of Forest Heights, the most upscale, sustainable development in Portland. The village center has a very nice Starbucks--with a huge indoor/outdoor fireplace; a laundry; Pizzacato, which features gourmet pizzas, a very reasonable nail salon; a small neighborhood grocery store and a nice restaurant. A free shuttle to the Sunset transit center--with access to the MAX light rail, the West Side commuter train and buses-- leaves from the village every thirty minutes during the week.
Just three minutes away is a large neighborhood shopping center, with a very nice QBS grocery store, mailing service, liquor store and four restaurants. And, of course, the delights of NW 23rd/21st, the Pearl District, and downtown Portland are less than 10 minutes away. We are just a couple of minutes away from Portland's wild Forest Park with miles of hiking/biking trails as well as Washington Park with the Portland Zoo, the Japanese and Rose Gardens, and the Hoyt Arboreatum.
- "Property is beautiful with many upgrades, clean, quiet neighborhood, beautiful views of surrounding forested areas. All amenities a guest could want or need, no detail too small has been left out. Even found birthday candles for my sons’s 5th birthday, jumper cables in the garage that I ended up needing, and everything one could want in a kitchen. Wine glasses- different types for different wines, different place mats and napkins for different place settings, candles for ambiance, lovely artwork, lovely lighting and dimming switches in several rooms with soft lighting. Linens, towels, the bed was wonderful! The owner was responsive within mere minutes whenever I had a question about something. There are even extra batteries in case one of the remotes has a bad battery, and extra light bulbs in case one goes out. So much time and preparation goes into each guests’ stay, it is truly remarkable. Although the space is the middle unit of a tri-plex, please note that in my six week stay I heard almost nothing. And upon checking with a neighbor today when I was checking out, she said the same thing of us. Don’t be deterred that it isn’t a detached unit for rent. You will have as much peace and privacy as if it were. The property was spotless and as promised. The photos are accurate. This rental is only about 10 min away from Washington Park- zoo, children’s museum, forestry center. Also within 10 or so minutes is the Pittock Mansion, the Audobahn society, Japanese Gardens, and more. Prime location. Hope you choose to experience this place!"

The space
Parking: Please note parking is either limited metered street parking or paid public parking. Metered street parking at $1.60/hour can be fed with the "Parking Kitty" app. The public parking lot which is less than 50yards from the house is $12.50/day paid every entry and can be paid through Citifyd app or at parking meter inside the parking lot.
Noise: We live in the basement with our two small kids. While we will take every care to respect your comfort, it is possible you could hear the kids talk, laugh and cry. But since they will be in school/daycare most of the day, we hope this will not compromise your comfort.
Access: The house has about 20 steps from the street to the guest unit entrance. The first set of stairs from the street is common to guests and hosts. This is the only common space.
Guest Unit: You will have exclusive access to the main and 2nd floors of this 3-story independent home. This section has a separate entrance accessed only by you and your group during the stay. We, the owners, stay in the basement with its own separate entrance.
The main floor includes a formal living room, media room, kid's playroom, dining plus kitchen, and a full bath. The 2nd floor includes two bedrooms, laundry, and a full bath. The kitchen opens into a small beautiful private backyard. Experience cooking on the Aga stove in this fully stocked kitchen.
One of the bedrooms has a king mattress, smart TV, and a reading nook. The bed is a 14" memory foam mattress. This bedroom is cooled only with central AC/ heater.
The other bedroom has a queen bed, a TV with Roku, and a personal work desk. The mattress is 16" memory foam. This bedroom also has a window AC, in addition to central AC/heater.
The media room has a 75" QLED TV with an impressive sound system to enjoy your favorite shows/movies. We provide Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube TV for live channels.
There is one corner room in the main unit that is locked from guest access. Owner's will NOT access this room during your stay.
Guest access
Guests will have full and independent access to the main floor and 2nd floor of the house through a separate entrance. Guests will also have access to the small, fenced backyard.
Other things to note
The cooking range is an Aga stove that is ON 24x7. Please familiarize yourself with the simple manual before cooking.

Quiet 2 story guest house for long-term rental. Great for remote work. Just steps away from NW 21st, NW 23rd, great restaurants, shopping, public transit, and Good Samaritan Hospital. Can walk to Forest Park, Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, Washington Park and the Pearl District. The main floor has a living room with a TV and work/dining table. Sunny upper level has a full kitchen, bath and sleeping area. The guesthouse is secured behind a locked gate. The street is generally pretty quiet. We unfortunately do not have guest parking, but there is plenty of on-street parking. On-street parking fees exist Monday-Saturday, 9am-7pm. No fees on Sundays or between 7pm-9am.
We love long-term renters. Please ask about a discount if you are interested in staying 2 months or longer.
