As hosts, we live on site in a ground floor apartment and we're here for anything our guests may need. We do not share any living spaces, and we always honor the privacy of our guests. In warmer months you can expect to see us tending to our front garden and potted plants in the backyard. The entrance to our apartment is via an exterior back stairwell, so if you're using the back yard, you may see us coming and going. We've made it our top priority to ensure all of our guests have an unmatched experience. We are very friendly and enjoy sharing our home with our guests. Upon entering Parlour House you are greeted by our extensive living area. Vaulted ceilings with refinished beams create a beautifully open and airy atmosphere. With the combination of our entry seating area and modular leather sofa with movable ottoman, there is plenty of room for your group to gather.

Walking towards the front of Parlour House, you enter our moody English style kitchen, equipped with all new appliances, a locally handmade kitchen table with seating for 8, non-toxic Green Pan cookware, extra-large single bowl sink, and a beautiful view of our front garden.

Continuing through the kitchen, you will discover our cozy kitchen nook: home to our French door refrigerator & drawer freezer with ice machine, coffee bar with Nespresso Vertuo coffee + espresso machine, reverse-osmosis alkaline water tap, fully equipped bar cart, and plenty of pantry storage for your group. We also have a traditional coffee pot and tea kettle available for use.

After passing through the kitchen nook, it seems you have reached the end of Parlour House. That is until you pull on the bookshelf, unlocking a hidden door to reveal the underground Illini Game Room.

Walk downstairs and transport yourself into vintage Illini paradise. Explore varied University of Illinois memorabilia, play arcade games, a round of darts, choose a board game or pick up a deck of cards from our game closet. Cozy up and set the mood even further by turning on our electric fireplace. There is a mini fridge located in the game closet for your convenience.

Multiple seating areas in the game room provide ample space for your group to spread out, play games, and make memories together.

Where you’ll sleep:

Parlour House is home to four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Bedroom 1 hosts a king-sized memory foam bed, double closets, wall paneling and wainscoting ceilings, all with room for a pack and play which can be provided upon request.

Bedroom 2 features airy, vaulted ceilings with the same refinished beams seen in our living space. Enjoy a comfortable queen-sized memory foam mattress, closet, dresser, and designated workspace.

Bedroom 3 hosts two full-sized beds & charming wallpaper paired with wainscoting ceilings and an antique dresser for the ultimate English country escape.

Upon entering Bedroom 3, you will find our linen closet with all towels, washcloths, and extra blankets. Please help yourself to the provided cleaning supplies if needed. There is an additional closet in this bedroom for clothes storage.

Bedroom 4 is located in the basement, at the far end of the game room. Sleep restfully on a queen-sized memory foam mattress, enjoy a reading nook with room for hanging clothes, and a dresser for clothes storage if needed.

Bathrooms:

Parlour House has two full bathrooms, conveniently located near the upstairs bedrooms. Bathroom 1 features a walk-in rainfall shower with a handheld wand. Bathroom 2 features a full tub and shower with removable shower head wand.

Outdoor Space:

Six burner gas grill with grilling utensils and free propane included. Gather around our SoloStove fire pit with seating to accommodate up to eight. We offer free fire wood and fire starters for our guests. Enjoy a meal at our outdoor dining table with seating for six. Relax on our spacious sectional big enough for your entire group. Ample string lighting for better vision after dark.

Book The Parlour House for a stay like no other!

-The City of Urbana requires all licensed short-term rental owners to live on property. We have a private onsite owners suite, and you will only meet us if necessary. We do not share any living spaces. We keep to ourselves, and as long as your group is being respectful, you will not hear from us.

-Noise Ordinance: Quiet hours in Urbana are from 10pm – 7am. Failure to comply with the noise ordinance will first result in host interference, escalating to police interference, Vrbo fines, and noise violation tickets. Please, be respectful.

-Unauthorized Guests: Our sleeping occupancy is city mandated for 8 guests. All guests must be registered by name prior to check in. NO UNAUTHORIZED GUESTS ALLOWED. In 2020, Vrbo banned all parties from their properties. There is a Zero Party Tolerance at our property. If you have exceeded our occupancy limits and unauthorized guests are present, they will be escorted from the property in violation of Vrbo rules. Fines may ensue.

-Exterior Security Cameras: Exterior doors and garages are equipped with security cameras for the safety of owners and guests. These cameras are exterior facing, and installed within Vrbo guidelines.

-Parking: DO NOT BLOCK THE DRIVEWAY AT ANY TIME. Our property has a shared driveway, and you are at risk of being towed for blocking the driveway or improper parking at any time. We offer four (4) private parking spots for our guests. There are two garage spots, and two parallel parking spaces. Street parking permits are available to purchase for $20, but we cannot guarantee the immediate availability of street parking outside of our home. 3 out of 4 parking spots require low profile vehicles, not exceeding 8ft. If your vehicle exceeds 8ft in height, you will need to use the gravel parking spot before the breezeway, or purchase a street permit.

The owners were VERY friendly and responsive to several pre-stay inquiries - much appreciated! There is a huge grocery store a few blocks away if provisions are needed. And the rental price was very reasonable. The only drawback, for me, was location in relation to UIUC — it’s a bit too far to walk, probably 2 miles from center of campus. That is, of course, a short 10 minute drive, but then one needs to deal with the difficult parking situation. All in all, I enjoyed the stay and definitely would stay again."

New April 2021: this home has a completely new heating and cooling system with an ionizing filtration system similar to what is used in hospitals (and proven to kill COVID). Extremely comfortable and quiet heating and cooling with humidity control!

This is a beautiful home right in the heart of Urbana. It features original woodwork and hardwood flooring, and as of September 2019, new high-end Samsung kitchen appliances. Though just two bedrooms are shown in the photos, this is a 4-5 bedroom house with 2 full bathrooms. Please inquire so we can discuss beds, parking, and pricing so we can be sure the terms are fitting for both parties. We generally prefer longer bookings.

This home has recently renovated kitchens and bathrooms. There are also large common spaces (living room, family room, dining room). There is a large dining room table, couch, 65" smart TV, and multifunction printer/scanner. The house has a very fast Wifi network.

We spared no expense on the kitchen. The kitchen features high-end black stainless steel Samsung Smart appliances all around. This includes an extremely quiet dishwasher, microwave (with a powerful vent the exhausts outdoors), gas range and double oven, and a very large fridge/freezer with filtered water and ice maker. The fridge even has an integrated filtered water pitcher that automatically refills.

The 1st floor of the house is all hardwood floors. The entire 2nd floor, with the exception of the bathroom, is carpeted. The house has central heating and air conditioning.

We generally assume 2 people per bed. If you are booking for a group, please inquire so we can discuss bedding options and pricing.

The detached garage is used for storage and not available for guest use. I may access the garage occasionally (usually when I'm doing outdoor upkeep like mowing the lawn) but can do so without disturbing the home in any way. The property does have security cameras on the exterior only.

This is a convertible couch that makes a single bed in my office. It is the size of an XLT. Best for short stays. A 2nd floor bedroom with

1) (especially light sleepers) The house is located across the street from a level one trauma center that operates a helipad and a busy emergency room. As a result, there may be noise from helicopters and ambulances at all hours, as well as bus noise from 7 am to midnight.

2) if stairs are difficult for you Aunties Rest will not be the best fit. The flight to the second floor is a bit steep.

3) For drivers, at this time there is limited free on street parking on the west side of the house.

4) This is a allergen minimal household we try to keep animals, dust, smoke, perfumes and scents to a minimum in common areas.

After a 2 year hosting break, I have recently moved into a different slightly smaller home. Still in the process of unpacking and setting up Aunties rest. Most things are available, but in a bit of a slimmed down form and some things are in process. below is the usual description.

This century-old, two story house, conveniently located near everything in Urbana, is an ideal spot for medical travelers or visitors to the University of Illinois campus. The unique older home is situated near the main campus of Carle Hospital.

Several bus routes are easily accessible, with one stop right at the end of the front walk and another just two blocks away. This area is bustling with hospital-related and local foot and vehicle traffic.

Things to note;

1) (especially light sleepers) The house is located across the street from a level one trauma center that operates a helipad and a busy emergency room. As a result, there may be noise from helicopters and ambulances at all hours, as well as bus noise from 7 am to midnight.

2) if stairs are difficult for you Aunties Rest will not be the best fit. The flight to the second floor is a bit steep.

3) For drivers, at this time there is limited free on street parking on the west side of the house.

4) This is a allergen minimal household we try to keep animals, dust, smoke, perfumes and scents to a minimum in common areas.
This property is 100% non-smoking. and Substance free. This includes the grounds. Smoking on the property can result in a fee of $100 for smoke mitigation and cleaning.

5) Lost keys, taking towels, taking Linens will result in a $30 per incident charge

Guest access
The basement and garage are off-limits to guests, but the rest of the common areas are open for your use. Auntie's Rest features a well-equipped home kitchen, dining room, and a main floor living and family room. Perishable items should be stored in the mini fridge provided in your room, while non-perishables can be stored in the Kitchen in the space allocated for your room. All cooking should take place in the kitchen, dining area, or on the grill.

Auntie's Rest also includes a front porch and a backyard for outdoor activities. Complimentary coffee, tea, and a coffee maker are available. Snacks can be found on the bakers rack and on the dining room table. Usually there is local fruit and some baked treats.
Bicycles are available for guests to borrow, making it convenient to explore the surrounding area. The backyard is equipped with a grill, a fire pit, and lawn furniture, making it ideal for outdoor cooking or a cozy evening gathering. Outdoor seating is also available on the front porch, providing ample space for relaxation or socializing.

Your guests are welcome to use the porch or backyard when you are present. However, during quiet hours, friends should retire to their own accommodations.

During your stay
The primary way guests should contact me is via text through the Airbnb app.
I am generally present at check-in and am available through the app to answer any questions. I do have a pretty busy life and I come and go throughout the day or weekend.
I do live full time on the property, I have my own space on site. I am in and out a lot.

Other things to note
This house is an old house that has been re arranged to suit modern conveniences sort of kind of way. Outlets and light switches are in odd places. If you cant figure out something or If anything breaks or goes wrong, tell Jes right away using the Airbnb app and we will get it taken care of.

Please remember that bathrooms and kitchen are always shared. Clean up after yourself in Kitchen and bathrooms before going on to other activities.

We have one full bathroom and one half bathroom for we all share. It takes approximately 45 seconds for the water to heat up in any tap.
Please make sure everyone gets a turn in the shower by signing up for times on the marker board in the hallway.
Be sure to use the drain cover to filter grey water, and ensure the shower curtain has the white liner inside the tub to prevent water from splattering onto the bathroom floor.
Terry bath rugs are available in the main bathroom to absorb excess water when you exit the tub. Your set of bath and hand towels are provided in your room. Washcloths are available in the bathrooms. The bath mats are stored over the toilet in the wood rack as are washcloths. Used towels, rugs, wash cloths should be placed in the laundry basket in your room or the hallway. We provide both toilet paper and wipes, but please only flush toilet paper. There is a waste can beside the toilet for wipes.
Please refrain from bringing in additional mattresses, electric blankets, bedding or more than one personal pillow. Extra bedding and towels are available upon request. Additionally, we have some basic personal care items on hand for your convenience. If you require anything beyond the essentials, you can find an "Honesty Basket" in the upstairs hall near the marker board, where you can donate $1-$3 for items.

Again Allergen Minimal reminder-Please use any scented personal products in your room with the door shut and refrain from using incense, scented candles or air fresheners. If possible cover the vent before using personal scents and leave it covered while they initially evaporate.

Our Home is in a quiet cul-de-sac in west Urbana just minutes away from U of I campus/stadium, State Farm Center, and hospitals; as well as golf course/driving range, restaurants, and shopping. This home has everything you will need for a comfortable stay; whether it’s for a long weekend or a month long stay. There is a king bed in master and queen bed in the guest room with extra pillows/blankets and the bathrooms are well stock.

One Curious Haven was built circa 1850, one of the oldest houses in the area. It is an old gem, but at close to 170 years old, it is by no means perfect.

The basement is very old. If the water table is high or it rains a lot, there can be water seeping in onto basement floor. This does not affect doing laundry but if you think water on the basement floor will bother you, please look elsewhere.

This is my home and a shared living space with roommates, please be prepared to respect it as such. No smokers and no pets. I look forward to hosting you!

One Curious Haven is centrally located- less than a mile to the U of I main quad, bus lines, and downtown Urbana where the bars, restaurants, and shops are located.

The space
Welcome to One Curious Haven! This very small bedroom is approximately 75 sq feet, and is furnished with a lofted twin-size bed, a desk and chair (under the loft), storage drawers and closet. Bedding (pillows, sheets, duvet and duvet cover) is provided and will be washed between each guest.

The guests of this room will share a bathroom with 2 other guests. The bedroom door has a privacy lock (can only be locked from the inside).

The house has central heating, and is equipped with wifi. This bedroom has a wall-mounted fan and air conditioning unit.

One Curious Haven was built circa 1850, one of the oldest houses in the area. It is an old gem, but at close to 170 years old, it is by no means perfect.

The basement is very old. If the water table is high or it rains a lot, there can be water seeping in onto basement floor. This does not affect doing laundry but if you think water on the basement floor will bother you, please look elsewhere.

This is my home and a shared living space with roommates, please be prepared to respect it as such. No smokers and no pets. I look forward to hosting you!

I am very passionate about bringing back the charm of old houses. The historic One Curious Haven is close to 170 years old. It is a gem but an old one, thus, no means perfect. I am constantly working on home projects and improving it.
