Only downside is there is no door so the light comes in as soon as the sun rises. 10-15 min drive to Addo, not much in the local area. Breakfast was good, buffet selection and eggs cooked to order. Nice grounds, nice pool and the food was also of a decent quality. Now on a road trip around South Africa, you get used to warnings about safety and taking care of belongings. Here we were welcomed with a lengthy delivery on all the steps the hotel was taking and what in turn we needed to do, which even by SA standards appeared a bit alarming, so made you think the surrounding area must be a huge 'worry'. Then we were presented with a piece of paper to sign that absolved the hotel of all responsibility for any incident howsoever caused and went on so say, we were to indemnify the hotel should any incident arise. It was a total disclaimer! I refused to sign. This was agreed, so I somewhat reluctantly stayed as trying to find an alternate at short notice near Addo would have been very difficult. "

- "We arrived rather late after a long drive from Cape Town, and were dismayed to find that the buzz boxes weren’t working. Thankfully we followed in a truck and they could hear the honk at the closer gate. The receptionist was very nice. The lodge that we stayed in was spacious but the floors were dirty and the bathtub needed to be run a while to get past the dirt in the pipes. Be aware that they don’t have dinner options, regardless of the first picture, and town is about 15 min away and restaurants close early. We ended up with road snacks for dinner. Breakfast was good and filling with a great view of the giraffes. Wish I would have sent a message to the hotel about our arrival and food options ahead of time. "

- "If you're prepared to drive up a winding unmade road then this place is for you. Stunning views, total tranquility, excellent service, food and wine. The owners have created an Edwardian Hill Lodge with immense character down to the finest detail. You feel like you're back in the early part of the 20th Century. The staff are very warm and helpful. It's a half hour drive from the entrance to Addo but this wasn't a problem as we had hired a 4 x 4. Not an absolute requirement but advisable. A perfect place to get away from it all and have amazing wildlife close by."
