Pets are generally discourage, however we do make allowances on a case by case basis.

An easy drive north west of Cairns International Airport, our modern tropical home is nestled in rainforest with beautiful views from every window. Tourist attractions including the Great Barrier Reef and Skyrail (a unique gondola ride through world heritage rainforest) are close by.

The situation of the house in the rainforest is very secluded but also has wonderful views from every window of the gardens, the rainforest and the swimming pool. The house is also close to Kuranda Village and an easy drive to Cairns.

The fully self contained unit has a private entry with an undercover carpark at the front door. It features a queen sized bed, bathroom, refrigerator, oven, toaster, electric jug and frypan and a vegetable steamer. It adjoins a sitting room which has a TV with Foxtel connection and a snooker/pool table. This room opens on to a large undercover patio overlooking the rainforest, tropical gardens and a lovely in-ground pool.

We are located close to Kuranda Village (a 20 minute walk) and an easy drive to Cairns, and the Atherton Tablelands.

It would be best to have a vehicle during your stay but there is a bus service that travels past the property that can take you to Cairns or Kuranda. We would be happy to assist with pick up and can also make recommendations to assist you during your stay.

Kuranda is a world heritage area and the village is a famous tourist town. Where we are situated is a perfect place to enjoy all that this special area has to offer.

There is a well stocked pharmacy - 16 Thongon Street Kuranda - in the village as well as a supermarket - Kuranda Foodworks - 16 Thooree Street Kuranda and a Post Office.

Internet - The Studio has wifi connection and the details with the network name and password are on the front of the fridge. Please ensure you put this back on the fridge before you leave. While we have a substantial internet package, we would appreciate it if you could use the downloads respectfully.

Toilet - Our toilet system is an onsite sewerage treatment system so please do not put any feminine hygiene items in the toilet. We have provided a bin for your use.

Hot Water System - We have a solar hot water system which provides plenty of hot water for normal family use. If we have a few overcast days and are using a fair amount of hot water it may not be as hot as it normally is. We have a booster switch which we will turn on as necessary.

Television - We have free to air tv with lots of local stations and we also have Foxtel. To operate the system you need to turn on both of the controllers. On the long black Sony controller you need to select INPUT on the top left hand side which will bring up all the options down the left side. To select Foxtel you need to go to HDMI 3 then press the centre button on the controller and then use the Foxtel controller to change the channel. If you need us to run through anything please give us a yell.

The Pool - is cleaned by a contractor who comes on a regular basis to service the pool. If there is anything you think is unusual you can call me on my mobile.

Driveway - The driveway is access to this house as well as my daughter’s house so you may meet someone coming in the other direction when you are driving in or out. Please drive slowly and stay on the concrete tracks.

General Waste and Recycling - There is a bin in the cupboard under the kitchen sink for general waste. When this is full could you please drop the bag into the black bin with the yellow lid at the top of the driveway. There is a small plastic bucket with a lid in the cupboard under the kitchen bench for food scraps. You can empty this in the big black compost in the back yard in front of the undercover carport. There is a recycling bin outside the studio for your bottles, tins, etc, could you please rinse items before you put them in the bin. As a family we are very dedicated to recycling and would appreciate it if you could follow this easy process during your stay.

For longer stays - Rubbish collection day for general waste is Monday morning, so please put your waste into the large green, yellow lid bin at the top of the driveway in time for collection which is around 10am.

Restaurants in Kuranda - There are limited food outlets in Kuranda in the evening. We have a great fish and chip shop at the BP service station at the entrance to the village. It is called ‘Wotta About Fish n Chips’ and their number is 40 939529. You can ring and order if you wish and then go in and pick up your dinner. There is a Thai restaurant called Thai Kai Cafe, they are closed Monday and Tuesday as well as two pizza places. There are heaps of good cafes in Kuranda for lunch or just a coffee. We would recommend having a wander around the Original Markets and trying out some of the options.

Restaurants in Cairns - Our recommendations are: Breakfast - Lilypad Cafe, Jafflehead, Osmosis. Lunch - Sushi Paradise, Slap and Pickle Sandwich & Tapas Bar, Hopscotch. Dinner - Samgasat Thai Cuisine, Vitalia’s Italian Restaurant, Ganbaranba Noodle Collosseum, Bombay Kitchen.

Shopping - At the bottom of the range (the road the you came on to reach Kuranda and our house), there is a large shopping centre which has a good range of shops including two supermarkets, Coles and Woolworths. This is the best place to shop for a big shop, as whilst the supermarket in Kuranda has a good selection of food it is more expensive than the bigger supermarkets. On Fridays and Saturdays Rusty’s Market in Cairns is a great place for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Places to see in Kuranda - Barron Falls is a lovely walk through the rainforest. The train, Skyrail, river cruise, Rainforestation, Butterfly Sanctuary and the Original Markets are all worth the experience.

Places to see on the Tablelands - Lake Barrine is beautiful and has a quaint tea house but no swimming. Lake Eacham is a beautiful big swimming lake. Yungaburra is a lovely little town and has a great retro cafe. Davies Creek is in between Kuranda and Mareeba and is a beautiful swimming river. The Tablelands has various farmer’s markets for you to sample local produce. Again ask us and we will provide dates and places. There are loads of tourist and nature spots on the Tablelands so have a look at the brochures we have left as well as online.

The Great Barrier Reef and islands are all accessible from Cairns. Depending on what experience you are looking for we will be able to help you choose.

Port Douglas - if you are planning a trip to Port Douglas, Sunday is the best day to go as they have a great market on the oceanfront. Further on from Port Douglas is the township of Daintree and the famous Daintree River and rainforest where the rainforest meets the ocean. You will eventually make your way on a beautiful scenic drive to Cape Tribulation. This would be a full day trip from Kuranda and again, we can provide details.

Tourist Information Centre - there is a great tourist centre in Kuranda which is situated at the side of the park and has a big bright indigenous painting on the side. They will be able to assist you in planning your time here. I have also left a selection of brochures for you to have a browse through.

- "Great farm stay." - "This was the perfect farm stay with plenty of activities for my 8yo son. New experiences can make him anxious but the hosts were kind, patient and flexible. Despite us not being able to arrive at the scheduled activity times due to my son’s nerves, Helen and Ken made sure that he could conquer his fears and go horseback riding and drive his own ATV! They were incredibly warm and accommodating and I can’t thank them enough for it. The property is beautiful and every sunset was an event. Each night we roasted marshmallows at the campfire. There is a large petting zoo area with many animals to visit. Some of the animals graze out on the open field in front of your accommodation so it was not uncommon to have sheep hanging out in front of your cabin or goats walking alongside you as you make your way to the restaurant area for a delicious Wagyu barbecue! The property is a 10 minute drive from the main area of Kuranda so we could enjoy the markets there as well as some day trips to other areas when we were not enjoying life on the farm. It was delightful and I would definitely visit again!"

Accessibility - this cottage does have a ramp access for those with mobility issues. It is important to note that the front door is not wide enough for wheelchair access, however walking aides would be ok at this property.
There are support rails next to the toilet and shower. The floor is flat throughout the cottage and out onto the outdoor verandah.
HOUSE RULES We aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible. For us to do so we would appreciate you following the house rules. These rules are a condition of your occupancy. Check-in is after 3pm, Check-out is 10am. Please respect our property and leave it as you found it, clean and tidy. No smoking inside the property. No pets allowed unless stated in property description. If evidence of smoking or pets without approval are found, charges for extra cleaning fees will apply. We take no responsibility for any loss or damage to property or injury or death to occupant, guest or invitee. No unregistered guests allowed. Maximum number of guests must not exceed property information for maximum guest numbers. No parties or events permitted. Please respect the neighbours and keep noise to a minimum before 7am and after 10pm. If a complaint is received you will receive a message via the booking platform, then a phone call. Failure to comply with reducing noise may lead to immediate eviction. Please take out rubbish before you check out, location of bins are provided in your checkout instructions. Please ensure all dishes and kitchenware are washed and returned to cupboards, fridge cleaned out. Please take care of your keys/access cards. If you lock yourself out a callout fee will be incurred. If the keys/access card are lost or taken with you on your departure, a replacement fee will be incurred. No drugs or illegal substances allowed on the premises. Please take care of the furnishings. Any alteration to the booking must be made by the guest via the booking platform. Internet connectivity varies from property to property, depending on location, weather and unforeseen events. We are unable to remedy technical issues outside of our control. We do not refund for problems such as plumbing, electrical, Wifi not working, light globes blown or gas, etc. Any issues identified by the occupant must be communicated to the host and will be attended to as soon as practically possible. At times, when the property is occupied, maintenance specialists are required to attend to their regular maintenance schedule, i.e. lawns and pools. Any breach of the above rules will permit us to cancel or terminate a booking. Refunds will not be paid on terminated bookings. Our cancellation policy is firm and we highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to cover your trip in case of emergencies, illness, extreme weather, etc. Any refund requests outside of our cancellation policy will be declined. Kuranda Village is an easy 35 minute walk from the house or five minutes drive. Kuranda is known as 'the village in the rainforest' and is very picturesque. It has interesting and unique markets, restaurants, cafes, galleries and is a great place to loose yourself exploring.

As we are situated 30 minutes from the airport, we would recommend that you have your own car. If not, there is a local bus that goes past our house which will take you to Cairns, Kuranda and the Atherton tablelands. The village of Kuranda is only a 3 minute drive away or a nice 35 minute walk. On request we can offer pickups and drop offs. Certainly to see the incredible sites that this whole area has to offer, a car is the best way to go.

Whilst the studio is nestled in the Rainforest of Kuranda, it is still close enough to transport, the Village, Cairns City, the Great Barrier Reef and the Tablelands, making it a very desirable location. The entire area of Tropical North Queensland is a very special place with many amazing attractions to enjoy. I am happy to share all this area has to offer with you.

High-set capturing lush rain rainforest views and only 5 minutes from Kuranda Village - turn into your driveway, walk into your sanctuary, and leave the world behind. High cathedral ceilings and windows that draw you out to the tops of rainforest trees enhance the green spacious feeling of the property. The clean lines of a modern kitchen are softened by beautiful hand carved poles.

The house is split across three floors. There is a large upper-level master bedroom, with a queen bed, walk in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom, including a jacuzzi. A private deck leads off this bathroom ideal for sun-bathing or star gazing.

On the main level you will find a light filled bedroom with high vaulted ceilings containing twin-beds. The expansive kitchen, dining and lounge room are open plan, bi-fold doors open seamlessly to the large north facing balcony with stunning views. The kitchen contains everything you need to cook and entertain: an island bench with gas stove, a stunning frameless window makes you feel as if you’re immersed in the rainforest, concealed Miele dishwater, soft closing drawers, modern kitchen appliances and utensils. A large solid dining table which seats 8. The cozy lounge area contains a smart TV, sofas, ottoman and a coffee table. The are books, board games and cards for guests to enjoy. The living area is modern and comfortable, and is the perfect place to relax.

On the lower level are two more comfortably appointed bedrooms with queen beds, a second bathroom with shower and toilet, another deck with a garden and rainforest outlook, and a laundry.

The house is constructed almost entirely from native hardwoods. The poles are Turpentine, sanded, oiled and polished to a beautiful shine. Australian Beech flooring is silky smooth underfoot. Breezes flow through the Rosewood louvres. The rafters are spotted gum and the decking on the balconies are ironbark. Windows and doors are all hand crafted from rare Silky Oak wood. Ornate 'Gothic’ doors hand built from Cherry Penda wood grace the hall entrance way. The craftsmanship in the construction of every detail of the house is exquisite.

The house and balconies offer complete privacy – no neighbouring houses are visible.

The property comes with a terraced rainforest garden and an abundance of wildlife - Wallabies with their little Joeys, Butterflies and Birds – it’s a very special place.
