Within minutes she had come to help and I ended up limping the car home and following her wise insistence to drive me to have some dinner. The local restaurant of her choice was fantastic with local produce prioritised and very tasty (and great value) pizzas. Plied with local red wine, I went back to enjoy her lovely and historic house and slept like a log in my comfortable bed. After an early breakfast, she really went out of her way to sort my car repairs, taking me nearly 20km to her local garage, who immediately rescued my vehicle, did the repairs and called us in little over an hour to say it was roadworthy again. She also drove me out of her way to find an ATM and we returned to a delicious lunch of local tomatoes, ham and parmesan, plus the best focaccia I have had in a while. In my spare hour I had walked around the vineyards just behind her house, laden with thick grapes and she brought out a sun lounger so I could sit by the pond and watch the carps and goldfish. It was perfect idyll in a quiet rural farming backwater just minutes from the highway. I will return and hopefully stay longer..."

Ours is a late 16th-century country villa of the Mantuan type; a large central corridor, andito, divides the rooms of the living area with two doors overlooking the gardens to the north and south of the house. Until the end of the 18th century, the landowners left the city in these buildings to come to vacation with their family and to check all the phases of the harvest of the agricultural estate, which was then kept directly in the barn of the villa. Restored with the desire to keep the charm of historic houses unchanged, and furnished almost exclusively with antique furniture. The gardens, the orchard and our vegetable garden will give all guests the opportunity to spend hours of leisure reading, walking or resting, swinging under the large walnut trees. Even the animals of our guests, welcome, can relax together with the two dogs and the house cat. At guests' disposal the whole living area, the large central hallway, the hall, the study / library as well as the dining room.
From our house you can easily reach Parma, Reggio Emilia, Mantua, Sabbioneta, the abbey of Polirone. Around Boretto and Brescello it is possible to go trekking on the Po river and discover the flavors of these lands.
Just 20 minutes away is the new Reggio Emilia high-speed station from which to reach Florence in 1 hour, Milan in 34 minutes, Bologna in 20 and Rome in 2.20.

- "It's a great experience to find yourself in the country, as green and luxurious as the Pianura Padana can be and suddenly run into this place, clearly a small aristocratic villa, well restored in a modern fashion, spacious and comfortable. Well appointed, with spacious rooms, ours featuring two beds, a nice kitchen and on-the-premises parking, this place is also close enough to the next town and an exquisite restaurant (run by a chef and his New Zealand wife), which became the proverbial cherry on top of the cake. The gentleman who runs the house for the owner (and does not live on the premises), was also very attentive and explained all we needed to know carefully. Overall, even though we spent one night only in it, this place appeared be ideal for anyone who wanted a full immersion in the nature of the Po Plains to explore the many small towns/villages in the vicinity and get to savor country life as close as possible. It can't get closer to at least a century ago than this."
