The gated property has a large garden down the hill and a well maintained swimming pool. It gave us a sense of privacy and allowed us to relax. Our unit was well equipped and clean. You need a car to drive there from Fort de France for about 50 minutes and you’d be better off with GPS. "

- "Not enough parking. No gate guard during Carnival to keep non-guests out. WiFi didn’t work in mornings or evenings. Need many more or better routers!" - "First of all, there is no Hotel La Marina. Cab driver never heard of it. Hotel Carayou is the real name of this resort, but read on. You must give this name (Carayou) and check in at this location. Once there at Carayou insist on Hotel La Marina booking. Not knowing this (who would?) we were instead provided with a substandard room at the resort which we immediately refused noting that it did not include the promised kitchenette. We were then told (and only then) that they had made an error and that we would get the correct room in the nonexistent Hotel La Marina, but not until the next day as they had overbooked or something. The next day we were provided with the correct room in a building on the site secretly named La Marina. That name can only be found on the individual room doors that include the actual room number. All site signs have a different name for this building. This room was as promised and we were very satisfied from that point on. The resort is mostly filled with guests from France who have selected an all inclusive package with meals included. They are provided with an arm band identifying them as such. As a guest in the nonexistent Hotel La Marina you may use all of the resorts facilities excepting that you must pay for meals if you choose the site restaurant. While walking about the surrounding area we discovered only four Americans. We had a great time here and fault no one for speaking French. We muddled through. "

- "The owners were friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to help us resolve a number of problems. The location provides wonderful views over the village to the beautiful sea beyond. Unfortunately, the view is across not only a busy and noisy road but a house with children playing loudly in a swimming pool more often than not. Indeed, the Panoramique is sandwiched between two busy roads and whilst not visible from the ‘hotel’, the 3-lane N5 to the north provides significant and continuous background noise. We found the racket debilitating. The studio in which we stayed was reasonably well-equipped with a good bed and aircon (it’s a shame that there was not a daily house-keeping service). The kitchen/dining area was on a private balcony. The kitchen had most essential equipment but there were no cooking basics (even salt and pepper) so one had to completely stock from scratch. That said, the kitchen was a life-saver because there is no restaurant at the ‘hotel’. Yes, there is a separately-owned pizza hut that is open most evenings but one cannot get breakfast or lunch.The small swimming pool is rather shabby and even if you could tolerate the traffic noise, there were only 3 broken sun-beds available. No other furniture for relaxing in the sun was available. Fortunately, the local beach (25-minute walk) is really good and not too busy. For those on a budget wanting a reasonable base to explore the island, this may be for you (don’t forget to pack the earplugs!)."

- "On their automated machine for check-in, they did not have my name available for the automatic check-in. It was difficult to understand the woman who answered the phone. Eventually, I got in." - "DO NOT stay at this place. Reception was friendly at check in, but it was clear that I was interrupting her call. I returned to the front desk to ask about the AC and Wi-Fi. There was a communication difficulty, but she showed me that the AC worked by inserting a laminated piece of cardboard into a slot on the wall. The Wi-Fi information was not correct, the username was not an option. There were many hairs on the bed, floor, and in the bathroom. I had to open the toilet tissue holder to reach the tissue. The amount of hair inside it was disgusting. The pics on Expedia are not a true representation. I wore my sandals in the shower. The toilet seat and counter top are stained. The garbage can looks like it has never been cleaned. The water in the shower is activated by pushing a button, the water flows for seconds then stops, no temperature control. The towels are very thin. There isn’t anywhere to lay or store your clothes. There is a small rod to hang a few items, but it is so low that a short dress would touch the floor. The music started booming at 9 pm. There was a bar beneath our room. I contacted Expedia about our issues and asked for an alternative place to stay. Expedia said that they would call us, but we did not receive a call. Sleeping was impossible, the music was so loud and continued until 3 am. We had booked for 5 nights. We found an available Airbnb and left the next morning. The “hotel” nor Expedia will give us a refund. So disappointed with both of them. "
