This place is made to give you a luxurious long stay while making you feel right at home. This studio has an open floor plan and was just remodeled in 2024. The filly stocked kitchen opens up to the living room and comes equipped with a breakfast bar. And don’t forget about the high-speed internet, smart TV, mini split with A/C , dedicated work space, washer and dryer on site, black-out shades, premium linens , and premium towels provided. This place has it all!

2. Check in time is 4 pm. Check-out time is anytime before 11 am. You are welcome to request an early check in or late checkout. We are unable to confirm availability until 24 hours prior to arrival or departure.

3. Parties, events, or excessive noise are not allowed. Please be respectful of the neighbors. Quiet hours are from 9PM-9AM. Violations may result in removal from the property.

4. No smoking of any kind anywhere on the premises including the use of e-cigarettes and marijuana. Those found in violation will incur an additional cleaning fee of at least $250.00 per incident and may result in removal from the property.

5. Guests are fully responsible for accidents, injuries, or illnesses that occur while on the premises. Acceptance of this reservation means that it is agreed that all guests are assuming any and all risk of any harm that may come from their use of the premise.

6. Firearm is prohibited at all times from property grounds

7. Only guests that are part of the reservation are allowed to occupy the premises. Any additional guests or visitors must be approved by the host.

You stroll down a path surrounded by lilies and amaryllis to come to a gated entrance. You will go down 4 short steps to the room. The Suite is close to several popular restaurants, cafes, and shopping.
Soak up the sun by the pool or watch hummingbirds at the many feeders hung in the patio.

The city bus stop is ½ block away and the Trolly is a short mile walk which makes it convenient if you are without a car. If you have a car there is plenty of street parking.

For the past two decades my career as a travel journalist has taken me around the globe. I’ve stayed at thousands of accommodations, where I learned personal touches create a comfortable home away from home. Certain places I visited offered extra special amenities. Green tea at a Japanese Ryokan; chardonnay infused bath salts at a Mexican posada; pink sugar at California’s Madonna Inn; and more. I’ve collected many goodies on my travels for you to enjoy at this vacation rental.

The house was built in 1946. My family lived in it for 25 years. We added modern day amenities and appliances, but kept the historic integrity of the sweet bungalow. The property has a 1/3-acre park-like, fenced backyard surrounded by citrus, fig, and persimmon trees, whose fruit you’re welcome to enjoy. Adirondack chairs sit nearby for you to relax, sip coffee and watch your children or dog run around the lawn.

A secluded patio extends outside the dining room French doors. Vine covered walls, blooming flower beds, and a Mexican terra-cotta chiminea are the perfect setting for grilling and dinner at the outdoor table.

The kitchen is equipped for all your cooking needs. There are five TVs, including one in the bathroom. Central air conditioning and heat throughout the house. Linens and towels provided. Washer, dryer, and dishwasher, also.

The location is easily accessible to San Diego highlights — the San Diego Zoo, Gaslamp Quarter, Coronado, beaches, Balboa Park museums, Petco Park, Seaworld, and the airport. Yet, it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the city in a quiet, residential neighborhood. Plus, the added benefit of being close to hiking and mountain biking trails.

Our house is a five minute drive to popular La Mesa Village with it’s trendy restaurants and boutique shops. Grocery stores and Starbucks are within walking distance. And, San Diego State University is two miles away, with concert venues and sports stadium.

IF YOU INSTANT BOOK, I WILL ASSUME YOU ARE NOT BRINGING A DOG. IF I APPROVE YOU BRINGING A DOG, THERE WILL TYPICALLY BE A PET FEE OF $75 PER STAY PER DOG. IF YOUR FEE IS HIGHER I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU INQUIRE.

ALSO, please don't run AC/heat when not in the guest house. When you do run it, please make sure all windows are closed. When you go out, please make sure AC/heat is OFF. You are welcome to open windows and to keep a fan running. Violation of this rule may result in a deduction of at least $100 from your security deposit. Fortunately, I have never deducted from anyone's deposit but please observe these important rules!

There are two (2) steps into the guest house.

My guest house is a 400 sf studio with bamboo flooring, high ceilings. Cal.King bed, kitchenette (sink, two fridges, Keurig coffee maker, toaster, microwave, two induction hot plates, toaster oven, garbage disposal); 3/4 bath (shower) with stability grab bar. You will have your own entrance and A/C and heat (Nest thermostat). There is a table for dining or workspace as well as a collapsible desk and chairs for work space or in-room snacking. There is wifi access and a TV with streaming content including live tv on Hulu+. There is a HUGE DVD movie library for your viewing. Maximum occupancy is 2 adults.

This guest house is private and not visible from the street. The yard, which is shared with the main house, has 12 foot high hedges and a lovely garden with sun lounge chairs. Weather permitting, enjoy the patio with lounging sofas and chairs, or have a snack outdoors at the umbrella-shaded dining table. An outdoor gas grill may be available for use. Guests who stay a week or longer will be provided with laundry access in the main house. For short term guests, there is a laundromat within a couple of miles on Adams Avenue.

I try to provide a guest experience that makes everything easy for the guests. I provide plenty of clean towels (beach towels in summer or on request), paper towels, napkins, dish detergent (hand washing only), toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, soap. I also keep the guest house stocked with other toiletry items including extra toothbrushes and sunblock. I also leave my guests coffee, filtered water pitcher and some snacks.

Beautiful neighborhood, mostly developed in the 1920s and 1940s. Flat, walkable streets with lovely homes. Walk to small business district (about 15 minutes) with restaurants, wine bars, brewery, ice cream parlor, independent movie theater, pilates/yoga studio, dry cleaners, Starbucks, pet supply store, upscale grocery (Stehley Farms). About 1 mile to Von's grocery and Rite Aid pharmacy.

Kensington is close to other interesting neighborhoods, such as North Park, Normal Heights and Hillcrest. It is immediately off the 15 freeway.

I will consider house trained, non-destructive dogs that are not habitual barkers and that do not have separation anxiety. If you wish to bring a dog, you MUST message me before booking and let me know your dog's breed, age, whether neutered, temperament. All dog guests must be current on vaccinations and must not have fleas. I try to make the guest house dog friendly and include doggie poop bags, Nature's Miracle (in the rare case of an accident), and a comforter or throw to use as a doggie bed. I have 2 neutered Westies living on premises, so approved doggie guests must be well socialized,. Large dogs that have a strong "prey" instinct toward small dogs are not suitable guests. However, we have hosted many large and wonderfully socialized dogs. There is a $75 pet fee per do per stay. Sorry, I do not allow cats.

Restaurants on Adams include Pappalecco (rustic pizzeria with amazing housemade gelato), Ponce's (family-owned Mexican comfort food - watch out for the margaritas!), Bleu Boheme (excellent French country cuisine), Cucina Sorella (innovative cuisine with eclectic gift shop), Clem's Tap House (brewery), Kensington Café (popular for brunch), Burger Lounge (burgers), The Haven (pizzeria and more), Clem's Liquor (deli counter and largest collection of bottled beers I have ever seen), Vino Volo (wine bar). The house is about a 0.2 mile walk to a city bus line. It is within 10-20 minutes of all major San Diego attractions and neighborhoods, including beaches, retail shopping, live music and theater, universities, the Zoo, Balboa Park and much more. It's about 1/2 hour to the Mexican border. If you have questions about the house's proximity to something you are interested in, just ask.

The space
We are the owners of the property and live in the main house; the guesthouse is situated in the backyard oasis with a separate entrance and no shared walls.

Guest access
Guests may access the backyard patio and rooftop deck surrounding the guesthouse studio. A grill and prep area with sink are available for your use on the rooftop deck.

Other things to note
Our lovable dog, Reese, lives on the property, and you may find him exploring the backyard oasis from time to time. He is a miniature pinscher that adores all people, including children, and other animals.

The casita can be found at the end of the driveway. It is detached from the main house and has its own private backyard with lawn and seating.

Fire extinguisher and First Aid Kit are in the cabinet below the kitchen sink.

Kitchen:
Full (mini) kitchen with a 2-burner stove, small fridge with a separate freezer, and sink. It has the basics like plates, bowls, glasses, wine glasses, silverware, and cookware. There is also a microwave and a coffee machine. There is coffee and tea, oatmeal, and some snacks available to you during your stay.

Bathroom:
The bathroom has a tub/shower combo, sink, and toilet. Extra towels can be found under the sink. There is shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the bathroom for your use.

Bedroom:
The bedroom has a full size bed. Extra bedding and pillows can be found in the closet.

Living Room / Dining:
There are 2 chairs in the dining room. Please let us know if you need additional chairs and we will be happy to put them in the casita before you check in.

The living room has a pull-out couch that can be converted into a bed for additional sleeping space. Bedding and pillows are in the bedroom closet.
Games are in the basket under the TV. We have Hulu live and Disney plus.

Backyard:
Enjoy your own private backyard with lawn, seating, and a BBQ grill.
