The Candelore Family is happy to offer a second studio apartment with Boardwalk Patio privileges. This studio has been recently refurbished. The studio has a full kitchen area with table and chairs. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination. Note that the apartment is not directly on the beach and has great view to the waves, beach, and Boardwalk. The shared patio is on the boardwalk, but not the unit itself. The unit is upstairs towards the rear of the property. The upstairs is light and bright and the window blinds may be left open as it is difficult for people to see in.

PLEASE READ AND AGREE BEFORE INQUIRING: The unit is suitable for 2 adults (a couple possibly with one infant or small child - 5 years old or younger). There is no access to the patio for non-guests. Due to the small shared area of the patio available to the studio, no one can be invited to come to the patio. For the health of our guests, no smoking of any kind is allowed inside the unit. We are serious: offenders will be fined.

- "We chose this home for it's proximity to Little Italy/Gaslamp Qtr. While it is near, it was not exactly a short walking distance but nothing a quick Uber/Lyft couldn't accommodate! The rental was beautiful, crispy clean with super comfortable beds. The in-unit washer/dryer is very convenient and for the coffee drinkers in our group, the coffee bar was much appreciated! We hardly knew were near the airport flight path. The building access made us feel very safe. Also, although we didn't get a chance to visit, Balboa park IS withing walking distance just 1 block away. “Mexico is only 30-something miles away from The Dutra. This little fact materializes in my brain every other Saturday or so. Why not? I say to myself, and also, to you. You could cross the border and come back for the night. Or just find yourself a bottle of mezcal and hang here under the windows’ chaperoning… A very close second.

Because the bar in Room U is a special place to while away the night. I bought it from the grandson of the man who brought it over from Spain. That’s a strange thing to bring over, I thought at first, imagining it on the Santa Maria, ocean-sprayed and shamelessly taking up space. But then I met the bar, and it all made sense.”

The Neighborhood:
If you’re still deciding where to stay, allow us to advocate for Little Italy. Locals like us know that Little Italy is bar and restaurant central: where to go if you want a well-made tiki drink or a fancy steak dinner in San Diego.

It’s also centrally located within the city: just a 5min drive from the airport and a 10min drive to Balboa Park, Gaslamp, North Park, Hillcrest, and beaches.

Getting Around:
The loft is conveniently located in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. The area is extremely walkable (and bikeable) — and you’ll be just a few blocks away from the some of the best restaurants in the city & a few blocks away from the gorgeous San Diego bay front.

Other Things to Note:
The Dutra does not allow smoking or pets in room and on the patios. (Though Pet Rocks are permitted.) If you choose to break “the rules,” we charge an extra cleaning fee. One necessary point about our patios: all are private, except for the common lawn on the fourth floor. It’s the one with tiny tub, you can’t miss it.

We welcome you to have (up to 2) friends over to our place until 9pm. We love parties, but for big groups or late nights, we ask that you check with us before you arrive. Our walls are a little thin, so your tap dancing, loud seances, bongos, and even your lively conversation can carry. The same goes for photo or film shoots. Please note that, in both cases, you may be charged an extra location or event fee.

We are equidistant from Belmont Park to the South and Pacific Beach to the North. We have parking for a small car in the garage. And there is a great deal of on-street parking on the bayside at El Carmel Point. There is a small market a few blocks away. There are many eateries nearby ... there is no need for a car!

- "The property and room were excellent. Very clean, very accommodating, and perfect for our stay. The valet service was one of the best I've experienced as well. They had a nice gym and other amenities that enhanced our stay. The only downside to this property is what many of our biggest and best cities are experiencing more and more and that's the homeless problem. There were homeless people all around the property and other issues that come with that problem. If not for the homeless situation and a little noise in the Gaslamp Quarter (which is to be expected on Friday and Saturday nights), this was a perfect property for our needs."

“I thought about changing this whole thing to just read: Napoleon slept here. Room T is kind of like the little spoon of The Dutra. Or maybe like a precious package tucked under the building’s right arm?

But no, despite popular opinion, the T doesn’t stand for tiny. Room T is big enough for your wildest ambitions and your coffee in the morning. There’s approximately 1,000 cupboards here—all presumably concealing tiny French dictators or perhaps, hidden treasures. From time to time, I like to leave a little something in there for our guests to discover. It feels right for this room.”

Our walls are a little thin, so your tap dancing, loud seances, bongos, and even your lively conversation can carry. The same goes for photo or film shoots. Please note that, in both cases, you may be charged an extra location or event fee.

Previous guests have stated the neighborhood seems sketchy, however it is usually safe without any instances I can remember. There are in houses people all over California and some may use the park across the street. I love the park and the pathway behind the house as well.

It is a task to keep the house clean (particularly) the bathrooms. If gets alarmingly dirty or if there is an issue, please let me know so I can fix and avoid bad reviews.
