It was the former home of San Jose Mayor Samuel Hensley who was responsible for developing San Jose from a small settlement to a large city in the Mid 1860’s. This house was originally built in 1894 and still retains it’s old world charms, but updated with modern amenities for your comfort. All seven units enjoy their own bathrooms, and large common living area, dinning area, and outdoor garden. Unit 6 is only for the entire 3rd floor of the property with its own small kitchen, en-suit bathroom, small living and dinning area. It stands out with original antique wood furnitures, wool carpet, marble sculptures, and original oil paintings. There is also a Tempur-pedic mattress replete with high count 100% cotton sheets, a single bed, a full-size sofa foldable bed, a fireplace, and a 65” smart tv to help you wind down after a fun day. Beautiful and spacious 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house in the heart of San Jose/Silicon Valley. With a wonderful private backyard. This house puts you right in the middle of everything. Less then 10 minutes away from Santana Row (the Rodeo Drive of the Bay Area), 8 minutes away from San Jose International Airport, tons of shopping just minutes away (Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joes) a great selection of restaurants and best of all easy access to all the major freeways.

A clean home is extremely important to my family and I. We make sure the home is always in great clean condition once guests check in and out no matter the length of each guests stay. The home was completely remodeled in 2019. The home has a nice sized living room, updated large open stye kitchen and two bedrooms with queen sized beds for a great nights rest. Besides some grapeseed oil, you will *not* find condiments for cooking at home (salt, pepper, sugar, sauces, etc). The central HVAC does not work, but the property does have three well-functioning portable AC units -- one in the kitchen, one in the living room, and one in the main bedroom. They are a bit loud. There is a 99cents store a 5min walk away (we went there to get bottled water) and several restaurants nearby within walking distance (Ethiopian, Chinese, Mexican, Vietnamese)."

Failure to follow the rule will result in loss of the security deposit and immediate eviction.

Groups of party-sized visitors are not allowed.

Keep outside noise to a minimum after 10pm.

As a friendly reminder, if you have any issue during your stay, please it bring to our attention. We are happy to assist right away. Any refunds on cleaning or nightly rate will not be authorized after check out, and we have a very strict no-smoking policy. Any traces of smoking inside the unit will result in a penalty of $500 USD.

Note: We have a no pet policy, the dog does well with humans but is territorial with other dogs. For liability and safety reasons, we would not be able to host guests with service dogs because of this.

If pets are brought in, this will result in immediate cancellation of the reservation.

Gardener and landscape maintenance will occur twice weekly, they will have access to the backyard.

Trash and Recycling bin must be taken out every Wednesday evening for early Thursday morning pick up.
Please load dirty dishes into the dishwasher and start prior to check out.

Under no circumstance is parties allowed. Immediate cancellation, cops called, and deposit not refunded.

Cannot park on the street every fourth Friday of the month, between 1-4pm. Failure to do so will result in a citation from the city.

- "It IS downtown so you do hear ppl partying non stop but it becomes background noise and can be easily ignored. The wifi connection was a little rocky which made schoolwork difficult at times but they did try to fix it. Also, I did the paid monthly parking next door in the public lot. My car got broken into twice in that lot despite the cameras and security. So park in the gated area maybe. But the laundry room was convenient and card paid. Apt had everything you needed and was actually pretty big."

We can accept longer bookings. Please message us before booking if you need multiple months. The cleaning fee for multiple months is different from a booking of one month or less. When you make a booking it includes the cleaning for the first month. After that you will be charged $10 per week for each week past one month. This fee is to help pay for the weekly cleaning of the shared space. The cleaner generally comes to this house on Wednesdays. The extra $10 per extra week will be charged just after your booking goes thru. If you want your linens changed when the cleaner is there, there will be a $20 charge. Just let us know and we will arrange it.

When you book thru Airbnb, you are booking a short term rental. Your stay is not a tenancy.

MAIL
Because this is a short term rental, not a tenancy, you CANNOT use the house address to receive mail. There are local stores where you can rent mail boxes or receive packages. Often they are inside grocery stores. We will not become involved with any packages that arrive or don't arrive at the house. This is not a party house. Your housemates are serious people who often need to work in the morning. That being said....if you are a several month guest and have a family member or friend accompanying you or visiting you for a a few days, talk to us for permission and guidelines. There is an extra guest fee.

SECURITY CAMERA
According to Airbnb policy, we want to disclose that we have a security camera at the front entrance. It has sound. It will be turned on during your stay. It is a clearly visible camera outside the home. (We do NOT have any cameras inside the home.) This is for everyone's comfort and protection. We don't have problems in the house, because we take efforts to keep the house safe for you and your things.

KITCHEN USE
Using the kitchen is a privilege that is granted to you, if you use it with respect for the others, you can prepare simple meals. No frying fish or cooking with strong spices that leave a lingering odor--what smells good to you may be offensive to others. You are expected to clean up your mess. We do not have maids. You must commit to washing your dishes right after use. This means no leaving dishes to soak because you've burned something. If you violate this rule, you may lose kitchen privileges.

CLEANING
The cleaning fee that you pay when booking is for preparing the room before your stay and restoring it after you leave. We DO NOT have a daily cleaning service. We have a cleaning person who comes in when a guest leaves or once a week. At that time they will clean the shared bathrooms, kitchen and living room. This person maintains the overall cleanliness of the common area, but nonetheless, you are expected to clean after yourself in the shared space.

LAUNDRY
Free on site washer and dryer. You provide your own detergent. Please do not do laundry during the quiet hours. DO NOT OVERFILL THE MACHINES. HALFWAY FULL IS THE MOST A MACHINE CAN HANDLE.

CHECKING IN
The house and your bedroom have coded lock. Each guest gets their personal code that works for the front door and their bedroom door. The codes are changed between guests.

PARKING
There is a private parking area on the property with space for 4 cars. It is secured with chains stretched between posts and locked with a coded padlock. Parking spots are not assigned to specific rooms—it's first come, first served.
Street parking is also available nearby if the private lot is full.

BIKES
Absolutely no bikes in the house. There is plenty of space in the backyard to store bikes.

Before you book the wrong place, just know that for things to run smoothly in this type of shared home, we need to run a tight ship. We have rules that we will enforce, so don’t be surprised if we call you out on some violation.

The backyard is for use of all tenants. Please respect the quiet hours when in the backyard. We have a good relationship with our neighbors and we don't want to spoil that.

The space
We’ve taken great effort to create a clean, comfortable, convenient home for people visiting the area. The common shared space is the kitchen, living room, dining room and backyard area.

MONTH TO MONTH AND MID TERM STAYS
We can accept longer bookings. Please message us before booking if you need multiple months. The cleaning fee for multiple months is different from a booking of one month or less. When you make a booking it includes the cleaning for the first month. After that you will be charged $10 per week for each week past one month. This fee is to help pay for the weekly cleaning of the shared space. The cleaner generally comes to this house on Wednesdays. The extra $10 per extra week will be charged just after your booking goes thru. If you want your linens changed when the cleaner is there, there will be a $20 charge. Just let us know and we will arrange it.

When you book thru Airbnb, you are booking a short term rental. Your stay is not a tenancy.

MAIL
Because this is a short term rental, not a tenancy, you CANNOT use the house address to receive mail. There are local stores where you can rent mail boxes or receive packages. Often they are inside grocery stores. We will not become involved with any packages that arrive or don't arrive at the house. We have a nicely furnished room with private bath near beautiful downtown San Jose & heart of Silicon Valley.
