We purchased this property in April 2018 and that first year of ownership, we were selfish and had the place all to ourselves. This allowed us to use it as a family for various holidays and also make improvements and add our personal touch. Now we love sharing our home with others.
With the above being said, we understand that staying in our cabin is a unique experience. Here are some things to consider:

- 4WD/AWD is essential in the winter. We are open all year round and some of the most beautiful times to visit us is in the winter with a fresh snowfall. The roads within Wolf Laurel as well as our driveway really do require four-wheel drive in winter months. Several guests have "tested" their luck with a 2WD car and did not have a great experience. Our community has a roads & maintenance crew that works to clear the main roads, but remember, you are in the mountains. During the winter months we do recommend travel insurance if you don't feel comfortable driving during inclement weather.

- The property is not equipped with AC. Due to the climate in the mountains we have found it is not necessary and most homes do not have AC. We have found that on the days that it does get warmer if the windows are open and guests use the fans that we have provided then the temperature does come down. If you need it to be AC cold in summer months, we may not be right for you.

- Our property is built into the side of a mountain. The Wolf Laurel community has paved roads most of the way to our home, but then you will get on our street which is gravel. The driveway entrance is steep, but as shown in pictures and mentioned by many guests, very doable. It can look intimidating the first time you approach it just as it did for us when we first purchased it. Guests must take their time and navigate slowly, but will realize that it's not as bad once you have done it. From our driveway, there are 24 steps down to get to our home (see picture). If you are not interested or have a difficult time navigating stairs and are looking for a paved road with an easy to access flat driveway, we may not be the place for you.

- We have a creek, a firepit and much land to explore. Exploring our property can be an adventure, but not for those who may be uncomfortable on trails or navigating outdoor terrain.

- A big part of our attraction is the amenity of a hot tub. We love it! Our guests love it! For nearly every guest, there are no issues with using the hot tub and enjoying the heat, jets and view. At the same time, routine maintenance on an item like this is required. We have several contracted repair companies that can typically fix anything. Our housekeeper maintains testing and chemical levels. Should an issue arise, please understand that we do everything in real time to get it resolved for your stay.

- Please don’t hesitate to ask questions prior to booking. We want to make sure that our expectations for this visit are aligned and that you thoroughly enjoy your stay.

Our community has a private access trail to hike up Big Bald and we are right along the Appalachian Trail if you care to venture down this famous path.

The views from Wolf Cabin Escape are breathtaking, and you can see them from inside the home through the large windows, off the back deck or from the comfort of our new 6 person jetted hot tub.

The back deck has a high top table with 4 chairs to enjoy the sounds of the creek and have a meal or a drink outdoors. We also have an outdoor sofa along with a patio table with even more seating. You also need to take advantage of our firepit and outdoor chairs to warm up and maybe make smores.

Although we are nestled in a quiet and secluded area, you will still have the amenities of a central heating, showers & bath, washer/dryer, WiFi service, flat-screen TV, full kitchen with all cooking utensils & tableware, a newly renovated master bathroom, and comfortable beds. After a nice hike to our creek, you can relax on two comfortable sofas as you sit by the fire (we even provide the wood). A full size washer and dryer is also available for your use.

The upstairs loft area not only has 2 queen beds and its own bathroom, it also has a dedicated entertainment space. The flat screen TV and 2 bean bag chairs to allow kids (and adults) a place to relax and watch movies.

You will have access to a fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary appliances like range, oven, microwave & dishwasher. We have a traditional coffee maker just bring your coffee of choice. A blender, toaster and various pots and pans for any cooking adventure!

Beyond that, we have playing cards, board games (including UNO and Jenga) and even a wide variety of books to read. You are welcome to take any book you haven't finished and feel free to leave a book you've already read.

LOCATION: The Cuckoo's Nest is a 700 square foot cabin located at 3500 feet of elevation, just 4 miles off I-26 W (Exit 3 - the Wolf Laurel Exit). It is a beautiful 40-minute drive from Asheville up I26 W through Buckner Gap. Our house is located just a mile down the hill from the entrance to Hatley Pointe Ski Resort; it is 4 miles from an entrance of the Appalachian Trail at the NC/TN border.

We are in a terrific location for snow tubing and skiing (less than a mile from the house)! We are at 3500 feet. It snows often and we can sometimes get a foot at a time. To rent our house YOU MUST HAVE A LARGE VEHICLE (truck or SUV with some ground clearance) WITH 4WD. Our driveway is steep, gravel, with a switchback. Experience driving in winter weather is highly recommended.

PROS (you’ll love our house if you’re looking for the following):

Seclusion: peace, quiet, serenity, and privacy.

Wifi: Remote workers, rejoice! You have fiber optic 5G here. Bring your laptop and set up in the spacious office space.

Dog Friendly: Bring your fur babies with you! Plenty of sniffing for them to do here. Note: there is not a fenced yard, but we do have a tie-out by the firepit.

Wildlife: It is pretty common to see deer, rabbits, gophers, chipmunks, turkeys, owls, and hawks.

Great outdoor space: Gas grill; Charcoal grill + smoker, Two hammocks for relaxing; seating area by the large firepit; amazing stargazing (zero light pollution); birdwatching; dogs welcome!

Nearby activities: Trout fishing (right down the street along the hatchery supported creek); Appalachian Trail (Sam’s Gap access is 4 miles away); snow tubing (1/4 mile from the house); whitewater rafting; skiing (Hatley Pointe Ski Resort); snow tubing; panning for gemstones; Mt. Mitchell; Nolichucky River tubing; Rocky Fork State Park; a plethora of delicious restaurants and breweries in the surrounding areas. We do not have a bathtub (only a shower).

NO cats or ferrets allowed.

NO PARTIES allowed (due to small septic system).

A vehicle with ground clearance is recommended for our steep gravel driveway - think SUV / Crossover/ Truck. (Yes, that means you WILL bottom out your Corvette). Also, YOU MUST HAVE A 4WD VEHICLE TO STAY HERE IN THE WINTER.

Here are more details:
There is a dining table and chairs inside for cold winter nights, but in all likelihood, you will enjoy all your meals at the dining table on the large screened-in porch. The porch has festive lights and a hammock during the summer. It is a great spot to listen to the sound of the waters of Puncheon Fork Creek across the road, or for bird watching.

There is a queen-size captain's bed (dresser drawers underneath) in the bedroom with 4 pillows, a comfy mattress, and extra quilts for chilly evenings.

The bathroom has plenty of natural light (skylight), towels, and a hairdryer. Please note that while we do have a shower with a glass door, we DO NOT have a bathtub. If you are a big person (over 6') you are going to find the shower to be a bit small.

In the living room, we have a 36" flat-screen Smart TV (you can choose from a variety of local channels + movie channels or log into your Netflix or Prime accounts, etc.), high-speed Wi-Fi, and landline from which you can make local calls. We also have loads of area maps, flyers, magazines, etc about the area. If you like to play games, we have Trivial Pursuit, checkers, chess, Yahtzee, Uno, dominoes, and Texas Hold Em poker, and more -- have fun!!! If you like to read, there is sure to be a novel on the shelf that strikes your fancy. There are lots of movies (75+ DVDs) to watch, too.

In the living room, there is a day bed (twin mattress) with a pull-out trundle underneath (another twin mattress). The trundle pops up and is on a rolling frame so you can put it wherever you want or make up the two twins together to form a queen.
We have a laundry closet with a washer and dryer that you are welcome to use -- because kids + dogs = muddy : ).

We are dog-friendly, too! There is a tie-out next to the firepit if your pooch tends to wander. Your dog will enjoy sniffing around the backyard area. Please note: We have 3 acres and it is NOT fenced. Our neighbors have a variety of livestock and dogs….keep your dog with you at all times.

We have a large fire pit in the backyard (and a wood stove inside for the winter). You can bring your own firewood to roast marshmallows on your campfire, or you can have firewood delivered for $30/day. ***Please let us know when you make your reservation so we can order the firewood delivery in advance*** The stars and constellations that you can see on a clear night are just breathtaking.

Two final notes that are important....
Our cabin is located in a "dry" section of Madison County. That means if you want to purchase any beer, wine, or liquor for your vacation, you need to do so in Asheville, Weaverville, or Mars Hill. Once you pass Exit 11, there is no alcohol for sale.

Finally, if you are considering a winter getaway to ski or snow tube, the magical winter wonderland that you will find at the cabin will not disappoint you. HOWEVER, you MUST have a 4WD vehicle!!! Our driveway is steep and is a gravel drive. It is not uncommon to get more than a foot of snow and have it last for a week or more. Icy conditions make navigating the drive extremely challenging (but once you get down to the road, it is plowed regularly!). Also, please be aware that there are frequent power outages in the winter. Most only last a few hours and aren't a big deal - as long as you have firewood!

- "The place is adorable. The property was lovely even though it rained most of the time we were there. We enjoyed the covered patio and just relaxing to the rain drops. Our dog, Dobby, really enjoyed being included and he loved all the new smells. We went into Asheville one evening and he even got his own doggy dinner! The only complaints we had were the very large black ants in the house and the bed in the main bedroom was uncomfortable but we made do. The adjacent unit is occupied by the property owners, however, the guests' privacy is fully respected. The quality construction ensures that you will not hear any disturbance. Some guests have been reluctant to book Bear Branch Bliss because of the close proximity of the owners; however, all reviews that have addressed this issue have been extremely postive. Let's just say the family was very happy to return to Bear Branch Bliss and warm up in that amazing shower! I could really go on but I will end with this - I thought we were going to miss our holiday trip and was so sad, but because of Shelley's hospitality and thoughtfulness we ended up having a beautiful white Christmas in warm, cozy place that will be in our family memories forever. Whenever we travel again to the area this Bear Branch Bliss will always be our first choice. PS. Our pup Lilly loved it there too and had her first snow experience running around the property!"

You are welcome to use all amenities at the Wolf Laurel Country Club with this specific home. The Wolf Laurel Country Club (WLCC) is a private, member owned, members only facility with just a few hundred members. Guest access is available because this home is owned by a WLCC member. Only a handful of homes in the entire community include access to the WLCC. The guest access fee is $150 for the entire group/family for 1 week, and you pay the country club directly after check in. Whether you stay 5, 6 or 7 nights, it is a flat $150. Every week thereafter is $150, and for weeks 5 and up it is $100 weekly for multi month visits. CONCIERGE SERVICES INCLUDED. The property manager lives in the community and is available to help with your stay. If you need something just let us know. Examples of services provided to guests in the past: pull guest out of ditch, jump start a car, deliver packages during stay, brought food to a snowed in guest, provided extra snow sleds, help with driveway access when it snows, fixed pilot light in fireplace if it goes out, provide ride for guests in the community if you are stuck or need to park in overflow community lot, mailed forgotten items left at home, assemble crib if requested, provide dog crate if requested, basically we are available so you are not on your own in a new community.

In the summer, there is horseback riding and kids camps, and in the winter, Hatley Pointe Ski Resort slopes are right on the mountain in the community just a mile or so away. The kitchen is a working kitchen but has sufficient counter space to create bigger meals. The house was very clean, check in / check out was easy . Wolf Laurel Resort is a gated community of over 5,000 acres located just off I-26, approximately 30 miles north of Asheville, NC. This mature community was started in 1965 and has elevations ranging from 3,800 feet to over 5,000 feet above sea level. The resort is mostly surrounded by The Pisgah National Forest and boasts 3 entrances to the Appalachian Trail. Also, recently added was a 750 acre nature land preserve trust. Wolf Laurel Country Club has an award winning mountain golf course that has the distinction of being the highest course east of the Mississippi River. Wolf Laurel Resort provides year round recreational activities including horseback riding, tennis, heated swimming pool, hiking trails, stocked trout pond with numerous creeks, events pavilions, children’s programs, and golf. Eighty acres of ski slopes and tubing offer ample winter fun.

Host does not live on site and is generally not available in-person during your stay, but is quick to communicate and address any questions or concerns. If any cleaning or maintenance needs arise during your stay that require in-person support, we have staff nearby and can make arrangements to address them promptly.
Though the WIFI is strong, Wolf Laurel Resort has spotty cell service throughout the community. WIFI calling is available in the home and you may have regular cell service on the property but it is not guaranteed.

Great for the ski season also since the villas are located about one mile from the ski lodge and off the main, paved access road. You will truly enjoy this beautiful villa any time of the year!

Pet Policy: **Dogs Welcome! All dogs need to be approved by the homeowner - some restrictions apply. Non-Refundable dog fee applies $75.00 / per dog - maximum 2 dogs. Please note without prior knowledge to Love rentals there will be a minimum of $500.00 and in some cases can be up to $1,000.00 and equested for you to leave immediately - so please ensure you advise us BEFORE you travel. Dog owners accept full responsibility for the dog.

No Smoking / or vaping of any kind is permitted in the property: If any signs of smoking / vaping are documented, the renter agrees to pay a $500.00 penalty fee.

We do provide a starter kit for the home which includes - Dish soap, 1 trash bag, dish detergent for dishwasher, 1 complimentary laundry soap, 1 roll of toilet paper per bathroom, and 1 bath starter hand soap. But please be prepared to bring any additional supplies that you will need. We only provide things to get you started.

- "We loved the location of this villa and the views! Older parents were with us and thankful no stairs - all one level. Very comfortable upgraded couches were great! The only issue was that we would have liked to be made aware earlier than one week before visit that the access to the country club and golf requires 150 per adult for a week of access even though we were only staying two nights. So, we didn’t golf or make reservation for dinner at the clubhouse. Disappointing but didn’t ruin our weekend. We explored and had dinner at the Smoke & Timber at Hatley’s Point, which I highly recommend. Side note, there is a miscommunication with WiFi access that we couldn’t get an answer about quickly so that caused some issues with internet and tv. The check in email has one WiFi access info and the packet on arrival has another where one digit was written illegible. All worked out in the long run! Bring your own games as we did and enjoy the great stay!"

Located in a Blue Ridge Mountains valley at 3000', this one-room pioneer log cabin was built in the mid 1800s. Enjoy fresh food from our organic gardens. Near hiking, rafting, skiing. 20 min from Mars Hill, 35 from Asheville. Breakfast. We welcome everyone!

The space
This cozy pioneer cabin was built in the 1840s by the Scots/Irish settlers of our surrounding mountains. It served as the main residence until the 1930s and was used as a pottery studio from 2003-2011. We have restored its basic amenities. It has a comfortable queen bed with convertible futon couch for an additional adult guest or two small children. There is a microwave, coffee/tea maker, spring water dispenser (our water is the best!) and a small fridge in the cabin. There is a private bathroom but separate from the cabin, about 50' away.
Cindy is a professional potter and she and Rod are organic vegetable market growers. The cabin is surrounded by the gardens, potter's studio and showroom, chicken houses, greenhouses, barn and mushroom yard. Our house is right next door. A wonderful mountain stream flows through the property. This is a great place for a writer's retreat or as a jumping off point for the many opportunities our mountains have to offer. Downtown Asheville is only 35 minutes away.

Guest access
Price includes a daily home-cooked breakfast for two* with a small charge for extra guests, if applicable. The cabin is not plumbed, but there is a full bathroom with shower 50 feet away, private entrance. Wi-Fi is available, but cell service is sketchy.

*-Rentals longer than six nights will be provided with a Continental breakfast basket delivered to the cabin or as otherwise agreed upon with the guest.

The space
The upstairs accommodation is all yours and is accessed by passing through the main level of the home. A very narrow, steep and twisty old-timey staircase leads to a vintage-styled, romantically decorated bedroom with fresh flowers, comfy sitting room, and a very large full bathroom filled with amenities. NOTE: The upstairs area has ceilings that measure from 6’3” to 6’ 8” depending on where you stand. The feel of the charming, cozy rooms are like a step back in time. NOTE: The home does not have central heat or air conditioning to the upstairs, but guests find the rooms very comfortable. During winter months, wool blankets are available. Electric blankets and heaters are also provided, altho’ guests report no need for them. In the summer, there is a window unit in the bathroom that cools the upstairs as long as the doors remain open. Fans are also provided. NOTE: The turn in the staircase allows for a very private area if you choose to leave the bedroom doors open. Guests love the quaint, antique-style space!

Enjoy a stroll on the grounds, and take in the mountain view on the front porch or back and side decks.

During your stay
The hosts will be in the house, and are happy to visit, or offer you privacy. You might have the home to yourself for a few hours if the hosts have plans to be away.

PLEASE NOTE: even though a kitchen, microwave or a large refrigerator is NOT available, a coffee maker and mini fridge is provided. The hosts no longer serve a full in-kitchen breakfast due to covid concerns. However, breakfast fixings are provided in the sitting room. Fresh vase flowers are in the rooms. Allergy concerns? Charming log cabin guest house. Quintessential Western North Carolina beauty. This picturesque, pastoral setting is flanked by short range mountain views and perched above Little Ivy Creek.

The property is a sanctuary for birds and people. Summertime fireflies dance in the trees at night, stunning close range fall color and a spacious full moon sky will greet you season by season. Little Ivy creek babbles and bends beneath it all, you might even hear the neighboring horse and buggy clomp on by.

The space
This well appointed guest house sits on two acres, adjacent the main house. The guest house is 450 square feet, built on a hillside, wrapped in several giant poplar trees.

The space itself is warm, comfortable and functional. The bones are solid, a rustic and lovingly maintained log cabin. The furnishings are fresh and modern with a touch of class.

The guest house has a queen size bed and a king size sleeper sofa. The queen size mattress is medium plush. The sleeper sofa is high quality memory foam and truly comfortable. The sleeper pulls out as a twin or a king size bed. While the guest house can sleep four, it is most comfortable for one couple, close friends or a small family. The small bathroom is located off the bedroom. The efficiency kitchen is efficiently nooked into the living room. All feels spacious.

The kitchen is equipped with quality cookware and everything you need to prepare meals. There is a two burner induction cooktop, mini fridge, microwave, cordless glass kettle and Keurig coffee maker. The property has delicious well water for drinking.

The unit has two new heat pump mini splits for year round comfort. The bathroom and fixtures are newly updated.

Of note: the driveway is not especially long or steep, though does travel up a sloping hillside. While we rarely get snow, access may be limited at times. There is also the option to park below and walk up.

While your space is private and your privacy respected, guests have full access to the property and gardens, with the exception of the covered front porch of the main house.

The space
Top of the mountain! After 9 years of faithfully serving as an Airbnb, this year I gave her a makeover. The Cottage is very cute, located at an elevation 3750 ft, on 15 acres of private mountain property overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mount Mitchell. It sits ADJACENT to the main house, we are like neighbors. ******* The cottage is perfect, the roads to the cottage are not. AWD AND 4WD encouraged, but not required. If you’ve lived in Colorado, this is nothing. If you have only lived in Florida, it may feel like an adventure. I encourage you to expand your comfort zone, but understand the mountains are not for everyone.

Because of its remote location, a stay at the cottage allows year round spectacular long range views and the darkest of night sky. Meteors are easy to spot! Full size fridge. Fully outfitted with everything your stay will need. AC and Heat! The cottage is small, 15x15, it's very compact and cozy. Everything is within reach. All linens listed are replaced each stay. Duvet cover, blanket, all pillow cases and shams, 2 towels, hand towel, wash cloths, bath mat and kitchen towels. Sleep on a cozy queen bed with down duvet and lots of pillows. For those that like to explore, there is a short trail and signs that leads to an upper meadow with good views and a spacious lawn to enjoy. Watch the stars and look for meteors by one of the two fire pits. Small Gas BBQ Grill. Writers, artists, and those needing a quiet space will find their ideal peaceful getaway.

All linens are NEW. Redecorated as well. Outdoor cooking set up! As well as a fully stocked kitchen, if you want a camp out style, Enamel plates cups and bowls for outside use, coffee percolator for authentic over the fire cooking.

A stay at the cottage provides a very clean and private space. Amenities include cable TV, Microwave, full size fridge, small gas range and gas oven. Kitchen appliances include Keurig machine, drip coffee maker, toaster, blender, electric kettle, George Forman grill, pour over coffee. Included in your rental is dish and bar soap, bath towels, hair dryer, cooking and eating utensils, dishes, glasses, wine glasses, coffee cups, Keurig coffee, sugar, knife block, cutting boards, pots, pans, frying pans, colander, mixing bowls, salt, pepper, dish soap, dish rags, drying towels, kitchen towels, paper towels, trash bags, access to a short trail up to the meadow, fire pits, lighter, beautiful views, and friendly faces. It is by far the least expensive place to stay with the most to offer and it's easy to see why the cottage stays booked year round.
New memory foam mattress. Every new guest gets a fresh duvet cover, as well as fresh linens, kitchen towels, bath towels, bath mat, wash cloth, hand towels, even one for the floor if it's raining. The cottage gets a total wipe down. Dollar for dollar this is the nicest space you can find on Airbnb for the price, and I work hard to make it perfect for each and every single guest.

Guest access
The cottage will be unlocked and ready for your arrival. It is important to map the location prior to arriving. Read the directions I provide for specific turns, but if you need further help, feel free to text or call. Most navigation systems are good, in the past they were not. Red Signs pointing to the cottage are there for you to follow. Call if you have any problems. Most neighbors know where the cottage is located.

Other things to note
Be sure to communicate before you arrive, and I do the same. On occasion the wet weather of Asheville makes travel up to the cottage difficult. We will communicate if we believe it will affect your travel. Those with AWD and 4WD are encouraged to turn it on, or shift in to 4wd as you drive up, saving the driveway. Any car should make it on a dry day.

The space
Welcome to our charming tiny home, perfect for a cozy getaway! Nestled in a peaceful setting, this space features a comfortable queen bed in the loft, offering a restful night’s sleep. Relax on the loveseat, catch your favorite shows on the TV, or step out onto the deck to enjoy some fresh air. Take a stroll down to the creek to enjoy some time in nature. Build a fire in the fire pit next to the creek and relax in the new Adirondack chairs.

The home is equipped with all the essentials, including a kitchen with a two-burner stove, a mini fridge, a full shower, and a toilet. Whether you’re looking to unwind or explore nearby attractions, our tiny home provides the perfect retreat!

The property is located close to I-26 and right off of Hwy 19, which makes it very accessible to many towns in the area. It is only six minutes to Mars Hill, 15 minutes to Weaverville, 20 minutes to Asheville, Burnsville, and Hatley Pointe Ski Resort.

Guest access
The entire space is available for your use. The tiny home is in a very private area with no other homes in view.

Please be aware that the walk down to the creek and the creek area is a shared space with our other Airbnb up the hill. There may be other Airbnb guests walking the path nearby, but we ask them to be mindful of the privacy of the tiny home guests.

We rarely get snow that sticks for long in the area, but please note that if there is snow in the forecast, we recommend a 4WD or AWD vehicle to go up and down the driveway. If it is snowing during your stay, we recommend parking at the road and walking down the driveway if you have a front wheel drive vehicle.

Other things to note
There is a hill in between the home and the highway, but please be aware that you will be able to hear some highway noise.

Note for longer stays--we do not have trash service, but we do have a free trash facility close by.

You will totally relax in this peaceful, quiet, clean, private apartment. Enjoy the view, outdoor space, and rocking chairs to relax outside. The space
Space is in the basement of the owners of the property, who are available if needed. Space has kitchenette which includes Keurig stocked with coffee pods, mini-frig, microwave, and electric kettle. There's a small breakfast table, seating area with tv, queen-size bed and private bathroom recently updated with luxurious walk-in shower. You may hear foot steps upstairs from time to time, but nothing crazy!

Guest access
The basement is open to guests. There's a locked door to block off the private residence.

Other things to note
You will access entrance by walking down a flagstone pathway. You will hear footsteps on main level, however, we do not own a dog, so it should be minimal. There is not a separate temperature control. Space remains cool all times of year, however, electric fireplace heats up the space nicely.
