- "I stayed on the dock for hours: water splashed, insects chirped, large perches frolicked, herons came to visit, black scoters dove and bobbed up. Excellent golf course - Meadowview - is 13 minutes away! And two more a little further. Alamo steakhouse is 14 minutes drive; their crème brûlée is to die for! Steaks are also great :) Abraham Lincoln's family farm is 20 minutes away, so is the cemetery where Thomas Lincoln, Abraham's father, is buried. The farm is a state park, run by volunteers, filled with new (for me) information, and we met the oldest living relative of Abraham Lincoln. When we arrived, Butterfingers, Kit-Kat, Hershey's and Reese's cups waited for us in the kitchen. We will certainly be coming back! "

- "To begin, the property manager was great about working with me to get in a bit earlier than check in time, due to our flight coming in earlier. She showed me around had amazing energy. The house was clean and inviting. I had not seen my daughter since March and it was the most relaxing and amazing place to catch up. I am working and in school for my masters degree. However sitting on the dock of the pond just made all of my stress melt away."

I want everyone to be able to enjoy the serenity and peace this property offers. On Monday-April 13, 2020-at the pond nearest the house, I sat and watched a Loon, 6 Mallard Ducks and a mother and father swan with 5 young ones. The evening before, there were 6 or 7 deer grazing in the yard and field by the barn. It might not be everyone's idea of heaven on earth, but it's mine.

Surrounded by amber fields in the summer and fall and over 1,000 acres of wooded lands, our 30 acre country property is located far enough away from population that you won’t hear any of the traffic noise that goes with a typical city, other than the sound of the train whistle from the tracks about 3 miles away. Nestled almost exactly in between the city of Arthur, the hub of Illinois Amish Country; Lake Shelbyville, a fisherman’s and boaters paradise; the city of Charleston, home of Eastern Illinois University and Lincoln Log Cabin; and the city of Mattoon, home of Lakeland College, you're less than a 30 minute drive in any direction to a host of family friendly activities in small town surroundings.

Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen (including most typical condiments, herbs, spices and pantry items), two enclosed sun porches, and the lower level game room that includes a pool table and foosball table. The house was built in the early 1940’s single handed by a New York Central railroad engineer. Although the house electrical and plumbing mechanics have been updated to modern standards, and additions have been added, you can still see his meticulous craftsmanship throughout the house particularly in the solid oak floors and thick hickory planking used for the interior walls.

With a blanket of stars against a coal black sky on many nights, this rural country estate offers all the comforts of your own home, along with the peace and quiet of a wooded remote country setting.

It reminded me of a cabin feel. There was plenty of personality with all of the stuff hanging on walls and the chalkboards hanging on the kids bedroom. This place and was also very clean, which was huge since my wife is a germaphobe. I was worried about that since it is an older house but David did a great job of having it clean for us. Speaking of David, he was very responsive to us, from messaging us when we booked the place to quickly answering any questions that we had to checking in on us right before our stay to helping us getting back into the house after being locked out. And if all of that wasn't good enough, he had fresh baked Texas Roadhouse rolls and this friendship bread, (which I would describe as a dense cinnamon sugar bread that was unbelievably good) with a stick of butter sitting out for us when we got there. It was such a nice touch and it really made us feel welcome. I would 100% stay there again and I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Mattoon or the surrounding areas. I am looking forward to staying there again!"

Welcome to Paradise Cottage nestled on Lake Paradise! Cozy and warm with wood finishes throughout. Includes three-tiered deck/patio, with the lowest level sitting over the water. Perfect for fishing (this lake hosts an annual fishing tournament), canoeing/kayaking, or just relaxing. Great for bird watching, with great blue herons, egrets, ducks, bald eagles, plovers, cormorants, woodpeckers and other species seen daily.

The space
This 2 bedroom/one bath cottage includes a living room which features a brick fireplace and opens to the dining area. Large sliding door in the lake room opens onto a three-tired deck/patio, with the lowest level sitting over the water. The second deck includes a fire pit with firewood included. Dual weber grills are available outside for cooking, as well as a picnic table for eating. Commonly viewed creatures includes Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Downy Woodpeckers, geese and an occasional muskrat.

Lake Paradise is a 174 acre no-wake lake, making your stay a quiet one. Kayaks are available on site and you may want to boat to the islands on the lake.

Cottage comes with all basic amenities including full kitchen (fridge/range/microwave/Keurig), full bath, shower, towels, bedding, etc. The TV viewing includes Roku that you can sign into with your own account to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. Washer/dryer not included, but a laundromat is located 10 minutes away.

Pet Restriction: Limited to 2 small (under 20 lbs.) well-behaved dogs. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture.

Note: First bedroom includes a queen bed. Second bedroom includes 4 bunk beds, which are more suitable for children and teenagers.

This property is a quadplex which means there are four units total. This particular unit consists of the entire downstairs which you will have completely to yourself. We have a shared washer/dryer area in the basement if needed.

Guest house located on personal property offering quiet country living. 800 square feet of living space with a front porch to enjoy nature. Located just outside of Mattoon, IL north of Lake Paradise. Just 10 minutes from Emerald Acres, 10 minutes from Lake Mattoon and 20 minutes from Lake Shelbyville. Only 16 miles from EIU and a perfect place to stay for local sporting events. Other small towns nearby worth visiting include Arthur, IL and Casey, IL. We have ample parking for cars and trailers.

The space
Welcome to my home!! It features three inviting bedrooms designed for your comfort. The main bedroom offers a firmer queen bed for a supportive night’s sleep, while the other two bedrooms each feature a full mattress—one extra soft and one medium—to suit your personal preference.

The open living area is perfect for unwinding, with cozy seating and a coffee table stocked with table talk cards to spark conversation and a small stack of books for leisurely reading. The fully equipped kitchen, including a Keurig for your morning brew, is ready for all your culinary needs. In the bathroom, relax under a refreshing rainfall shower—just remember to close the door while showering and use the exhaust, as the smoke alarm is located in the hallway. Enjoy your stay! This 5 bedroom 3 bath Early 1900's historic home boasts plenty of space, privacy and charm! On the main level, you will find a living room, eat in chef's kitchen with all new appliances and gas range. There's also a bedroom with a twin size bed and a full size stackable washer and dryer. Located beside the bedroom is a full bathroom. On the second level you will find 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. 2 bedrooms feature queen beds and 1 has a full size bed. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and an attached en suite half bath. The third level is accessible through a door located in the second level bathroom. On the third level, you will find 4 twin beds and a loft area. This home has plenty of space, both indoor and outdoor!
