- "Everything was perfect" - "The nook is just perfect. It has plenty of space for everyone. We were 13 and never felt squeezed throughout the week. It is super clean and the kitchen is very well equiped (for true, not like some other places where you only have the very basics...). The kids had a lot of fun in the game room. The yard is huge, we even played baseball (with the kids obviously, still too small for grown-ups !) The property is well situated in a quiet neighbourhood. The state park has some nice trails but they did not allowed swimming some days while it was in the national park just beside. So we headed to the national park most of the time. There is a bike path to the state park but none to the national park. However if you go by bike, the state park passe only lets 1 person in and you need to pay for each person. If you go by car, everyone in the car will get in with the same pass. So we ended up leaving the bikes behind for that. There are other bike trails but we didn't explore much. If you want to spend a lot of time in Chicago, it might be a bit far but still feasible. It was not the case for us, we stayed close most of the time. All in all, a very fun week. The nook was even better than expected. It is a sure call to rent here !"

The house is located about a mile from the beach and we never had a issue getting parking right by the beach. We loved the area. We went to a lot of different places within the National Park and nothing was farther than 15-20 minutes away. We also took the train to see a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. I loved being able to quickly drive down to the lake and catch a spectacular sunset! I also enjoyed running from the house and along Lake Michigan."

Located in upscale Valparaiso, Indiana. Conveniently located just one hour from Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Just 15 minutes from the beaches of Lake Michigan and Indiana Dunes National Park. Close to downtown Valparaiso and Chesterton… quaint areas with a variety of uniques shops, restaurants, wineries, breweries, and apple and berry picking orchards/farms.

The farmhouse has an open concept with a fully equipped kitchen, and all brand new, stainless steel appliances. Everything you’d need to prepare an unforgettable meal, gathered in a light filled dining room that seats 16. There are 4 bedrooms, 11 beds and 3 baths, accommodations to sleep 16. {1 King Bed, 3 Queen Beds and 2 Queen bunk Beds, 2 Twin Daybeds with 2 Pullout Twin Beds, 1 Queen pull out sofa} Nearly every room enjoys panoramic views. The open living room/dining room boasts a great space for relaxing, playing games, and more. There are 3- 70 inch smart tvs with premium cable and a sound system in each living room. Enjoy a movie in front of a gas fireplace. We offer a Peloton bike in the upstairs bedroom already signed into our account to choose from a variety of workouts. The outdoor patio, directly outside the back door, offers a 6-person hot tub (open year-round with string lighting), gas grill, dining table, bags, and fire pit. Plenty of room for parking by the house!!

Access to the barn, which sits 100 feet or so away from the house, is NOT included in vacation rentals. We do ask that our farmhouse guests appreciate the barn from a distance, as it is not included in Airbnb rentals
Other things to note
We strictly enforce our 16-guest maximum. However, we can accommodate many people, and may be able to make an exception to this rule, but there will be an added fee of $75 per person, per day, after the first 16 guests. Airbnb groups may not host parties/events with non-overnight guests under any circumstances. Prior to your stay, we require a list of guests that will be on the property, with ages. We will also email a liability waiver that we will need you to print, have all guests sign, and bring with you yo check in. Security cameras will be placed outside, facing each gate.

NO fires in basement bedroom!!! It is for display only!!! You may use the gas fireplace in main level living room.

There is a $350 cleaning fee

This a non smoking and pet free home!!!
Absolutely no pets. There will be a $300 fine if any pet is brought into the house.

This property does not have city water, and is well/septic. The home utilizes the newest water softener on the market from OSBY.

Please note landscaping and pond maintenance may take place around the property during work hours on any day of the week--we try to let guests know when to expect any groundskeepers.

Lovingly named " Rivera House" by our friends, this cool house is located steps from the beach, combining the comfort and style of the home. It features a large, combined kitchen/dining/living room full of natural light and lake views. Two bedrooms on the second level share a full bathroom. The large room designated for children is located on the lower level of the home, and has it's own bathroom, with a walkout patio to a private backyard. 2 days minimum rental, please.
The space
Lower level of the house has a large space designed for children, and a full bathroom. 2 bunk beds and a trundle bed comfortably fits 6 children. A large Love sack chair provides nice seating for a gaming and /or TV watching.
The walkout patio leads to a fenced-in backyard. A gas grill, 6 chairs, a mobile fire pit will meet any dining and entertainment needs.
A master bedroom on the second level has 2 queen beds, a walk-in closet and an access to a full bathroom. A 2nd bedroom has a queen bed, and a closet for personal belongings and a closet for supplies.
A small workspace on the 3rd level has a couch and a small work table. Great space to catch up on the emails or to read.
A roof top seating area is our favorite. We have our morning coffee there, and watch the sundown over the Lake Michigan.
In the garage, we keep 5 bikes, 2 paddle boards, 6 beach chairs and 2 umbrellas, lots of safety vests for older children and adults.
The mobile ping pong table can be rolled out onto the driveway, and used for a family Olympics evening.
Bedding, bath towels and beach towels are provided. Fully stacked kitchen,- just bring your food, your crew, sunscreen and have fun!
Guest access
Guests can access all areas of the house, except the closet contents in the hallway on the lower level, and a jet ski in the garage that is not our property.

Access to beach was about 2 minutes by slow stroll. Owner encouraged us to use beach chairs, paddle boards, games, etc for fun at the beach. Neighbors were very friendly. We spent a day on Eastern side of Dunes National Park, and comparatively, Miller Beach (home’s location) was by far the nicest beach we came across. We came here with our 2.5 year old and 5 month old and there was a lot of stuff to do. Just wish we could’ve stayed for a couple more days to fit more into our trip. The communication was great with the host and the neighborhood was very quiet and safe for families. The only thing we rated less than 5-stars was the water had a sulfur odor, but we chalked that up to irregular use of the pipes with it being a vacation rental. We bought bottled water and it wasn’t a huge issue. The place was clean and beds were comfy. Wal Mart was close by to stock up on groceries and the grill and kitchen were great. Would definitely recommend staying here if you’re wanting to see the Dunes and Michigan City."

The Area

A 3 minute walk east down the beach will take you to Wells Street Beach. They have paid parking, restrooms, great cheese burgers and drinks. Keep walking and you come into West Beach, Indiana Dunes National Park. There are hiking trails and a set of stairs leading to the top dune that will burn off that cheeseburger in about 10 minutes. The view from the top is worth the trip.

Marquette Park (15 blocks west) offers a playground, picnic shelters, lagoons, bike trails, hiking trails, disc golf course, public beach, The Pavillion and Aquatorium venues and a concession stand with snacks, ice cream, beer, wine,specialty drinks and live entertainment.

Drive about 5 minutes into downtown Miller Beach you can visit the shops on Lake Street. The School House Shops, Indie Indie Bang Bang, Lake Street Gallery and Gardner Art Center and Sunday’s Farmers Market are worth browsing through.

Flamingo Pizza, Sand and Salsa Mexican restaurant , Miller Pizza Station, Clutch Bagels, 18th Street Brewery, Tiny’s Café, Caribbean Roots and Vibrations are the places to go to eat and enjoy live entertainment.

Miller Pizza is the best pizza in town (they also deliver).

18th Street Brewery and Tiny’s are famous for their craft beers and cocktails, whiskey and gourmet sandwiches. If you are a fan of craft beer, this is a must.

Visit Vibrations for fresh salads, vegan sandwiches, bowls, deserts, smoothies and Kombucha. They have yoga and guided meditation upstairs, an outdoor tiki bar and a secret lounge in the basement for private parties.

On summer Sundays enjoy live entertainment, fresh produce, tacos, local artists and more at the farmers market located next to the Old School House Shops on Lake Street.

If it isn't a beach day or you want to go sight-seeing in the city, hop on the South Shore Train to Chicago. (Train schedules are found in our guest book) The station is right on Lake Street in downtown Miller Beach. It’s a direct short ride that will take you to museums, shopping or drop you right downtown Chicago at Millennium Station.

Bike rentals are available on Lake Street and by the lagoon in Marquette Park. Great bicycle trails in the area through the national park by the way!

Kite surfing lessons as well as e-foil rental and lessons are available just a couple doors down at Windy City Kite Surfing.

Kayak rentals are available on Thursdays (weather permitting) at the lagoon in Marquette park.

This beach home and neighborhood are dear to us. We want you to enjoy and appreciate the space and community as much as we do. We consider you our personal guests. Because your host lives just a couple blocks away, we are available if you need anything, an extra cooler, umbrella, borrow a cup of sugar (or tequila) and give you directions to the current happenings. If you need anything, just give us a call, message or walk down the beach and find us. It’s a small beach town.

Quiet guest suite with private entrance that is separated from the rest of the house. Nestled in the heart of the Indiana Dunes, this is a perfect launching pad to the best the Dunes has to offer. The property is mere feet from the National Park and is built on a sand dune. The South Shore Train Station (access to Chicago) is around the corner. Porter Beach, the Visitors Center, Indiana Dunes State Park, Cowles Bog, Little Calumet River, & dozens of hiking trails are all within 1-2 miles

The space
The space is essentially a studio apartment in a quiet, wooded, neighborhood located in the Dunes. You will have a private entrance and the space is separated from the main house. It's ideal if you want to explore the Indiana Dunes during the day and need a quiet spot to rest at night.

Newly constructed in 2024. Very Clean. It has a queen bed. The kitchenette is stocked with dishes and has a sink, microwave, induction hotplate (see House Manual under online Arrival Guide for instructions), and refrigerator. The bathroom has a full shower and soft water. Comes with extra blankets and towels. It has all of the essentials you would get in a hotel room and then some.

Access is all one level, there are no stairs. You will have your own patio equipped with a table and a couple of chairs. Comes with parking spot. You're more than welcome to roam the property. It's a great area to watch the birds, squirrels, and other wildlife.

Other things to note
This spot is perfect for Indiana Dunes exploration. While you can certainly drive around, bicycles offer a fantastic way to navigate the dunes, especially on weekends when vehicle lines can get lengthy at State Park Beach. I have a couple of bikes available for use, or bring your own for added convenience.

Right in-between The Dunes National Park and downtown Chesterton, you will be close to everything when you stay at this centrally-located home. Things to look forward to: Less than 10 minutes to the Dunes and beaches or head 3 minutes the other way to downtown for food, drinks and plenty of small town fun. This charismatic home greets you with all new furniture, front porch, HUGE fenced yard, and local decor. You will fall in love with this family town so bring the kids!

The space
This is a single-family home with 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom. It has a HUGE gated back yard that includes a patio area, propane grill, and fire pit. Parking is on site and the driveway can fit 3-4 vehicles.

Bringing the family? The home will also include a pack-and-play, a highchair, some children's toys, and laundry on site.

Our townhome is a duplex, unit 5963 is available for Airbnb. It has its own private attached garage and driveway. Also has its own patio. The other side is 5961 please do not disturb our long term tenant.

Walk into the living room where you’ll enjoy a very comfortable sofa which can be conveniently turned into a sofa bed. It has a hung smart tv and Wifi so you can connect to your favorite TV Apps . It also has central air.

Passing the living room is our dining room which leads into the kitchen. Kitchen has stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, utensils, cups, plates, pots and pans.

The laundry room is also the furnace room. It has a stackable washer and dryer.

This space is located on the second floor of our custom built 8 year old country house that was originally intended to be an in-law suite.

You will have total privacy in this space above our home along with access to acreage. A private entrance located up a flight of stairs on the outside allows you to have a totally secluded space inside the main house.

There are 2 full bedrooms with a Queen bed in each room and a 3rd twin rollaway bed which will make it 3 beds in total. There are 2 full baths and you will never run out of hot water! There is an instant hot water tank so the hot water is endless!

There is a standing water dispenser that serves cold and hot water for those who do not like well water.

Working from home? There is a comfortable desk space in one of the bedrooms so if you need privacy you can shut the door and work away!

Each bedroom has convenient charging places for your cell phone right next to your bed and a TV. There is also a large TV in the living room. There is access to full TV/cable services from COMCAST as well as extras such as MAX and NETFLIX for your usage.

There is a gas grill and patio set located outside that you are able to use as well as plenty of outdoor chairs to sit and enjoy the outdoors.

Wake up to deer roaming the yard right outside of your upstairs balcony!

The Burdick Station is located on 4 acres in the country where you will find walking trails through woods where you can observe nature or watch the train go by along the far side of the acreage. The train tracks are located off of our property approximately 1/8 of a mile away. It is truly a great stop!

The space
Enjoy stunning views and disconnect from the hustle and bustle! The Good Farm (TGF) of Valpo allows you the peacefulness of the country without taking you too far from a variety of amazing attractions. Whether you just want to relax or prefer to tour nearby cities and towns, you can’t beat the location or amenities of TGF.

The house itself was built in 1853 (fully updated in 2021) and sits on the northeast corner of 44 acres. Enjoy sunsets across the street over the neighboring bean field. Beyond the pond to the west is an enormous grassy field surrounded by trees and overgrown trails. (Feel free to hike over and enjoy!) On the east side of the house, you’ll find neighboring homes.

Please note that we also occasionally rent out an additional apartment space on the back of the property. The apartment sleeps an additional 6 people, but the only shared space between the two rentals is the outdoors and the gym. (Apartment includes its own amenities—including a separate fire pit—for other guests, so you should not be bothered by others. The apartment space faces the back of the property (no windows from the house and apartment face each other) and is about 100 yards away, ensuring privacy.) We say this as you may see other guests on the property if it’s booked at the same time as your stay. If you have more than 11 people looking to stay or only wish to have the outdoors to yourself, we suggest renting both spaces at the same time.

While we do tend to be “hands off” hosts, please note that we will also be next door during your stay. (Kirby’s parents live there!) We will swing by to let the chickens out of the coop in the morning and put them back at night, as well as to water the garden. We will also leave out some farm fresh eggs for your first breakfast. (We try to include a full dozen for you, but our chickens do go through molting season and don’t always lay a dozen a day, especially in the cooler months.) We run an antique store out of one of the back buildings, but it is currently “shop by appointment” only, so we don’t spend a ton of time on the property while you’re here. We will not come into the house during your stay unless you’d like us to.

Guests will have full access to the home, access to an exterior workout gym, and the surrounding 44 acres.

***Please note that we do have honey beehives on the property. While the bees are located away from lodging—at the back of the property—and their presence isn’t intrusive (you likely will not notice them), guests should not go close to the hives. Those with allergies should bring their own EpiPen, and children must always be accompanied outside as not to disturb the bees/other farm animals.

CHECK-IN INFO:
--Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions between 9AM and 10AM (CST) on the morning of their scheduled arrival. All of this will be communicated through AirBnB messenger. We often will meet you at the farm to show you around as you check in.
--A manual with our favorite local attractions will be provided. Please let us know if you’d like this in advance. We have tons of recommendations and love to support the best local businesses.
--Please note that Valparaiso is on Central Standard Time (CST), the same as Chicago. Check-in is between 4 and 9 p.m.; check-out is at 10 a.m. (unless other arrangements have been made with us).
--Our cancellation policy is strict. That being said, if you do need to cancel your reservation and we are able to re-book your days with another guest, we will gladly refund you for the amount that we’re able to recoup by new guests. (Some platforms charge service fees that we’re not responsible for—which will be their discretion to refund you.)

-Guest Bedroom on top floor: 4 people (Two queen beds: Zinus green tea mattresses. Oscillating fan.)
-Guest Bedroom on top floor: 1 baby and 1-2 people (Crib with organic Amish-made mattress, antique half bed.)
-Finished basement: 2 people (queen size floor mattress)
-Living room on main floor: 2 people (Queen size sofa bed)

Note: For those concerned about skin sensitivity and/or allergies, we wash all linens/towels in gentle baby (Puracy) detergent. Extra blankets and quilts are available in the storage trunk coffee table (in the living room), as well as in the basement closet.

BATHROOMS:
There are three full bathrooms available for use:
1. The main floor bathroom (off of the kitchen) with single vanity and rain shower.
2. The master bathroom (attached to master bedroom) which includes a double vanity and double rain shower heads.
3. The upstairs bathroom with tall, double vanity and bathtub/rain shower; shared by two bedrooms.

A tankless water heater ensures hot water on demand.

Each bathroom is equipped with fresh towels, rags, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a hair dryer.

KITCHEN:
The main kitchen includes a farmhouse sink, quartz counter tops, a large peninsula with barstool seating for 3, a kitchen table and 6 chairs, fridge and freezer, gas antique style stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, and Vitamix blender. Dishware is available, and you are welcome to use any of our spices and/or cooking oils. Provided the chickens lay eggs while you are here, we’ll deliver you a basket of fresh eggs in the morning so you can use them to make omelettes. ;)

DESKS/WORK AREAS:
An office nook is available for work; guests would simply need to bring their own computer to plug in. WiFi is provided.

GYM:
In the back red pole barn, there is a gym where you’re welcome to use any of the equipment available. (Please note that this is a shared space, so you may see us or other renters from the Barn Apartment using the gym.) The gym is equipped with an exercise bike, treadmill, elliptical, full body pulley machine, pec deck machine, bench press, weights, yoga mats, resistance bands, and a small trampoline. A smart TV is available in the gym as well. All items are use at your own risk; kids must be supervised/accompanied by an adult and are not permitted to use gym equipment. We do have monthly cleanings of the gym but ask that you clean any individual equipment after each use. (Spray and rags provided.)

TECHNOLOGY:
--When we moved into the farm, we purposefully didn’t hook up TVs. We noticed our kids went outside even on rainy days and we loved not hearing the constant buzz of the mainstream media during Covid-19. Because of this, we decided that our lives were much simpler/happier without them. We always hope that our guests will use their time here to disconnect and recharge, but we also love a good movie. ;) For those who do wish to watch TV, there is one hooked up in the basement living area with a large, comfortable couch. Simply login to your streaming service (Hulu, Netflix, etc.) to watch.
--Wifi is provided...So if you’re a TV junkie and can’t survive without it, you can still stream to your phone. ;)
--Central Heat and AC are controlled by you through Nest thermostats. (Three zones for three different areas of the house.)
--Three Smart Home Devices are also in the house with instructions on how to use them. The devices can play music, find local attractions, check the weather, etc. Guests who do not want to utilize the devices can simply turn them off.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use in the basement.

PARKING:
The gravel driveway can fit up to one car per guest. (11 cars total.)

OUTDOOR AREAS:
There are three covered porches to enjoy. (Front, back, and one off the master suite.) We also have two outdoor iron patio tables (each with 4 iron chairs), copper fire pit, and 10 plastic Adirondack chairs for your use. Firewood is provided for those who wish to light a fire (behind the pole barn). A back porch swing allows views of the garden, barns, and pond. The front porch has a rocking chair and wooden bench to enjoy sunsets over the bean field. There is an open grassy hay field surrounded by overgrown wooded trails, as well as a river (Salt Creek) that cuts through the very back corner of the property. While the river isn’t easy to access (walking down a hill, through thick woods without a direct path is required), guests who are willing to brave the journey to get to the river are welcome to bring their own fishing equipment. There is also a 100+ year old restored barn in the backyard. If you’d like us to set up an antique table/chairs and/or decor for a dinner, we’d be happy to do so for an extra charge. (This requires us to do a massive cleaning beforehand, as we have free range chickens—hence the extra charge if you would like to use it.)

SAFETY NOTES:
1. This home is NOT baby-proofed. (We do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, stairs do not have gates, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Upstairs windows have extra locks as precautions, but are low to the ground where curious kids could easily get out. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times, and guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. The stairs are VERY steep (the house was built in 1853!), and the ceilings are low in the stairway thresholds. Taller guests will need to be mindful of their head as they walk up and down stairs, as not to hit their head on the beams of the thresholds. Guests must climb outdoor steps to get into the house as well—Those who are not able bodied will NOT be able to easily navigate the home; although the house was fully updated in 2021, the age of the house does not render it handicap equipped. We only recommend booking this home if everyone in your group is able-bodied, as the steep stairs will be difficult for those who are not.
3. The oven is a retro style oven, meaning the outside oven door does get hot. Our kids have touched it while it’s “on” and have not been burned (it has not been hot enough to burn someone unless they were to press their hand on it for longer than a few seconds), but it is important to be mindful while cooking with little ones.
4. We always remind guests to check themselves for ticks after spending time outdoors. Our house is sprayed monthly (inside and out) for bugs, but given the surroundings and age of the home, you’re bound to see a spider or two while here. This is not a matter of not being clean—it’s simply a matter of farm life. :)
5. Our chickens have always been friendly with us, but as with any animal, interacting with them is done so at your own risk. We occasionally have a rooster, and they are known to occasionally be territorial/aggressive with little ones. (You are welcome to kick him if he’s aggressive toward you.) Otherwise, please be friendly and gentle. We are happy to introduce you to the flock and help you handle them should you like to hold them.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
While we do rent other homes that are designated for guest use only, this farm is our personal home. We are only interested in renting it out about once a month (at most), and we are only interested in renting to the most respectful guests. Because of this, we do not have wiggle room on pricing, minimum stay requirements, or on the items below. While we welcome guests of all backgrounds, we will only be accepting booking requests from:

--Users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts.
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are not bringing pets.
--A maximum of 11 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.
—We value our relationship with our neighbors, so events/gatherings/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the house in excellent condition for ourselves and for future guests, we are firm on these rules. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
