The resort: The chalet is in the beautiful ski and summer resort of Borovets, in the Rila mountains. The chalet is in a quiet location away from the main street, close to a stream. The resort is popular with families and groups of friends. It is great value and is a very friendly resort. The amenities in the hotels, such as swimming, games, gym are available to use. The town of Samokov is 10 mins away by taxi/bus, and Sofia, the capital, with its extensive shopping and sightseeing, is only an 80 minute drive away.

Resort activities: Swimming, bowling, gyms, shooting range, solarium, Jacuzzi and massage are available at the large hotels. There is also horse-riding, tobogganing, ski-doos, sleigh rides, & cleared walks in winter.

Summer holidays: Borovets is peaceful and relaxing in summer. The mountains are carpeted with wild flowers, and there are numerous beautiful walks. Spectacular views, can be had from Moussala, the Balkan peninsula's highest peak (2,925m). The Gondola is open for access to the high walks. Guides are available for short walks and overnight treks, also for hunting and fishing, and off road drives through the mountains for a wilder view of nature. Horse-riding, mountain-biking, and tennis can be found in the resort and Lake Iskar 20km away.

There are numerous restaurants with a wide range of international cuisine at exceptionally good value, and many friendly bars. The apres ski has something for everyone. For those who like a late night there are nightclubs and discos which are very lively.

Chalet Sokol is a luxury 4 bedroom ski chalet in Bulgaria's best known and established ski resort of Borovets. The Chalet, furnished to a high standard, has a cosy contemporary feel throughout and sleeps up to 9 people in 2 king bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms, one with an extra truckle bed.The two king bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms and there is a main bathroom with bath/shower. Requires more kitchen utensils, ie spatula and sharp kitchen/cutting knives. A snow shovel would be handy for vehicle parking after a heavy snowfall, which we had. A higher quality of pillows is a must. The wifi was intermittent at best. The worst problem was the smell of raw sewage coming the drain in the washroom which was covered with plastic to help prevent the stench from seeping out. At times this overwhelming throughout the entire stay."

Overall we had a great trip, the apartment being rural was amazing with all the snow we had, very picturesque."

We run our place as a chalet but its made up of two apartments situated mostly next door to each other, which gives the added advantage of family groups having a certain amount of privacy with a number of mini satellite sitting and kitchenette areas , as well being part of larger group with our communal dinning and seating area.
We also advertise on other competitor sites with which we have reviews.
A group is a minimum of 8 people, it works really well for 10 and we can happy accommodate 12 but no more than this.

I am on-site almost 24/7 and live next door in the apartment where I do the cooking, so I m on hand but not invasive.

* Due to the increased prices of airport transfers we no longer incorporate these in our standard price, we now recommend traventuria, which we use to book at 10 euros each way, but prices have esculted so no longer offer this option but are happy to enquire on your behalf and ask you to pay traventuria or who every you choose, directly. We will happily see if we can still negotiate a better price for you, but this doesnt always happen, depends on the sizes of the groups and flight times etc.

YOu have a fully catered holiday, except wednesday evening meal or a day you of your choosing, We leave sandwich making out for you that day and breakfast as its our day off. Sandwiches are left for you to make if you need them, for any day in the week as well.

cereal, apple/orange juice, coffee and tea, toast and concerves, yogurt, sliced fruits.
Eggs of a different type each day. (scrambled, fried, poached, boiled but not omlettes ), I can do waffles and american pancakes too if you let me inadvance.

LUNCH -
There is bread, cheese, chutney etc or a different filling left out each day for you to make your own sandwiches PLUS a sweet treat like flapjack. We suggest you bring a packup box with you. However you can also opt for lunch up the mountain as its very reasonably priced up there too.

AFTERNOON CAKES and refreshments -
Not every group wants this and opt for a slow decent from the gondula sampling the cafes and bars on the way. Just let me know when you arrive, or you change your mind as the week goes on.

EVENING MEALS- 3 courses
STARTERS - soups, pate, mixed meat and veggie patters, stuffed peppers, salads etc
MAINS - Beef and ale pie, Pork Hock, moussaka, Lasagne, chilli, curry, chinease, roast chicken or pork....... served with a mix of winter salads and veggies and potatoes or rice. It varies each day
DESSERTS - peach upside pudding with caramel sauce and custard, chocolate tart, sylabub, homemade ice cream and sorbet, bread nad butter pudding - a real mix

THe meals we can discuss nearer the time of arrival before i leave the UK just incase I need to bring things with me. I try to accomodate groups likes and dislikes of foods too.

I offer a vegetarian or meat option, and if you give me enough notice a vegan option but this is slightly extra as they dont have a lot of the vegan ingredients in Bulgaria.
I tend do a theme each day, so Itialian, Bulgarian, English, and often a seperate menu for the kids if they dont want the adult menu. Deep fried chicken, burgers etc. I adapt the menu within the budget to make your holiday memorable.

Wed is generally rest day for staff, so this is the day you get your own breakfast, we leave you the normal things out for cereal, toast, coffee, tea milk and eggs. You just help yourself and clean up afterwards. We leave things in the fridge for you. DInner choose a restaurant and head out into the evening life of Bansko. Great opportunity for you to try local food.
Our place is private and comfortable It has rustic charm combined with modern facilities. We have comfy beds, separate chill out seating area upstairs in apartment 7 and a mini kitchen with a hob and fridge, some even have a washing machine. If you use these kitchen facilities you are responsible for cleaning these area though,
We run a drop off to the gondola station in the morning, and if you want to be driven up the mountain we use Misho next door who has a ski shuttle business, and charges very competitive rates.
Bedrooms sleep between 2 and 4 people and for an extra fee you can choose to have all people in max 2 to a room, please just ask me.
I also can offer snowshoe tours from beginners as a weeks holiday for a few hours getting used to equipment and terrain - right through to advanced of full days out or over night adventures, so its as easy or as hard as you want play. I do charge for this service as well.
In summer we are a mountain trekking company, winter we operate as a ski chalet or snowshoeing or separate apartments.
Please note after having a few rowdy groups, I need to explain that BG law states no noise after 10pm. THis is to those of you who are really noisy esp after drinking, if you are this place isnt for you. If you are noisy, and I will ask you to be quite nicely, my neighbours can and have called the police, the police are very different in BG than the UK, you can get fined, I can loose my tourist licence and they can remove you from the property. Bulgaria was behind the iron curtain up until 20 years ago and rules are very different here. Please do not upset the neighbours and the police, the system is very different here than the UK.
Summer time is about coming a pre-arranged trekking routes with us, which we organise once we have the first few people booked on and find out thier level of ability and requirements. If a group books this applies to the group organiser and we lease with that person.
Please be sure to let me know on VRBO messaging about food allergies or other important issues I should be made aware of such as nut allergies or physical requirements where bed protection is needed when you initially book your trip.

- "Liz was very accommodating with a last minute change of beds, fussy kids and a vegan to cater for. The food was delicious, nutritious and varied. She went out of her way to offer a vegan starter, main and dessert every evening for my daughter. We didn't expect that and it was much appreciated. She asked us at the start of the week about any likes and dislikes and the kids put in their requests too. Fired chicken baked beans etc! The rooms were warm and comfortable and gave us our own privacy but enabled us to meet up for breakfast and the evenings. I think they are extremely well suited for 2 large families or several couples. The drop off at at the ski hire shop in the morning was much appreciated although we chose to walk it sometimes if we fancied a late start. Liz was knowledgeable about the local area. Her tip on which hot spring to go to was spot on and well worth a visit. The gondola in Bansko can get very congested, particularly as we were there over New year. The lift to the top of the mountain was worth doing to avoid the queues. At the time it was a 10 lev charge per peron and liz could arrange this or you can grab a taxi/ minibus from the town. Its also worth knowing that on new years eve you have to pre-book a table in a restaurant as no bars are available to walk-ins until after midnight! All in all a lovely week away staying in Liz's apartment. We had frequent visits from Liz's friendly dog, Riley.......just keep you socks and slippers hidden! 😂"

The best place to stay is our 119m2 ski chalet with 2 double size bedrooms and 2 shower rooms surrounded by forest and lots of snow. For those wanting to see more of Bulgaria, consider taking a week in Pamporovo and a week on the Black Sea coast. If you would like a 2 centre holiday with a week on the Black Sea at Bourgas (Sunny Beach) Sozopol or Sinemorets, the last section of the A1 Motorway has now been completed and so as a consequence, you can get across to the coast in about 3.5 hours.

Pamporovo ski . FOR SALE - will not affect bookings.

Pamporovo- the southern most ski resort in Europe: Pamporovo is the southern most ski resort in Europe and the sunniest mountain resort in Bulgaria. It has good weather for skiing and pleasantly warm weather throughout the long summer. It has an average winter sunshine of 120 days - but the snow is reliable (consider how unreliable the snow cover was in many European resorts
2007). Resort altitude is1,650M and ski temperatures average a pleasant -3C. Ski season is mid December to early April. Average snowfall is 1.5M the peak at Snejanka is 1,926M.
Summer temperatures range from May 10C-20C with similar temperatures at the beginning of October. July and August can reach an average high of 30C and low rainfall July through September (about 30mm in each of these months with August being the driest). Car hire is recommended in summer to take advantage of exploring the beautiful mountain area. A small family car would be adequate around £170 per week. The drive from the airport Sofia takes about 3++ hours with lovely scenery.

Pamporovo- excellent skiing at budget prices: Pamporovo is probably one of the three best places in the world to learn to ski. It is especially suitable for beginners and children. It boasts an excellent ski school - possibly the best for beginners and the instructors speak good English. Ski /snowboard hire and tuition are cheap compared to anywhere else. Cheap ski lift passes and the cost is only just over half of what you would pay in Austria.
For more advanced skiers there is a choice of intermediate runs, and for the advanced skier the’ wall' black mogul run and some interesting long reds. Time yourself on the international slalom course.
Pamporovo has après ski at value prices - BJ's bar, Dave's Bar, and White Hart Pub
Pamporovo offers excellent value all year round and the cost of things is low. A 3 course meal out with wine is less than £10 per person. Have a traditional Bulgarian night out in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant for not much more

Chalets at Pamporovo Village in summer- rural retreat/be active: Days out and places of interest - rock formations and rock climbing; river activities; Roman ruins; caves; churches and chapels. The Bachkovo Monastery is a must see. Visit the 'emerald eyes' of the Rhodope mountain range - the Smolyan Lakes near to Forest Nook. The Yagodina Cave - the longest cave in Bulgaria is a 15 km drive away towards the pretty town of Shriko Luca.
Wildlife - The Rhodope mountain range is a haven for birds/birdwatchers and contains over 200 species - many of which are rare. There are lush meadows, home to an abundance of flowers, many of which are only found in this area. Go walking with our mountain guide Dicho, who is an expert on the wildlife, flowers and rare plants.
Romantic/relaxing holiday - or Forest Nook has an Activities centre. canoeing, caves, off road safari or ATV, or horse riding/trekking. Via Ferrata or Quad biking.

- "I went with my kids in Jan 09. The accommodation was excellent, a nice wood burner, good food and beer across the road and not too far from the slopes. I hired a 4x4, and needed it for the track leading to the resort. My kids and I are seriously considering renting it again next year, great holiday, lots of fun, exciting driving and good skiing.
