- "This is a great little 2 bedroom self contained accom in the old dovecote/pigeonhouse of 12-15th century Chateau Vauguyon. Apparently the chateau belonged to Richeleu's butler (or maybe brother, I may have misheard). Anyway, the rooms are big with lovely old windows. The Master BR looks out onto the hillside field where the owner's fallow deer graze and the other BR looks across the Vienne to Chinon and and it's hilltop fortress. Kitchen, bathroom, laundry facilities are all good once you work out the mysteries of the french labelled washing machine, and the grounds are beautiful. We ate figs every day from the tree in the yard. M. Duluth, the host, is very helpful and friendly. He has excellent English which made things easy for us and he is very chatty. It is a nice 8km run over to the to Chinon fortress and back or you can stretch it to 10 around the medieval city. There are also some 10km loops back over the range behind the chateau and through the fields which are beautiful. Have fun!"

- "The apartment is right on the street next to the wonderful river and right around the corner for everything you need! Roomy, all the amenities and privacy too - the apartment takes up all the floors so no one is above or below you. The owner doesn’t speak English which is okay since we don’t speak French and self check instructions were easy and clear in our email. The only glitch was we didn’t realize that all the doors you encounter as you climb 2 sets of stairs belong to the one apartment - kitchen, living and dining in one huge room on one floor and the 2 bedrooms, bath and toilet (4 doors on the next floor up). Once we figured that out all was great! I only had one suggestion to make it perfect - the place needs a big full length mirror - just one mirror is in the bathroom. Parking is right on the street and cheap - we found a spot every afternoon we returned from our adventures. There’s also a huge street market typical of France (fabulous) on Thursdays and on the 3rd Sunday of each month there is a huge flea market in the park just down the street from the apartment. If you don’t mind climbing 2 sets of stairs with your things (and we just count it as a wee workout), the place is wonderful!"

- "We were met by Jean-Pierre upon our arrival, who was a very gracious host, although with minimal English. The unit was centrally located and was very spacious and quiet. Being in a 500 year old building does have some shortcomings such as very steep narrow stairs to the second story and a passageway into the bedroom that anyone over 5 ft 10 in. would need to stoop to pass. Parking was not available at the unit but there was a secluded lot not far away with free overnight parking (minimal charge during the day). One improvement that we would suggest is having a hair dryer."

Our barn conversion has been a personal project over the last 3 years. Newly available in 2025, and completely transformed from a former goat barn! It’s now been converted to offer beautiful light filled bedrooms, a stunning kitchen which is the heart of the home, a master ensuite, a family shower room and a large living room. You are in the town of Chinon amongst the vineyards- we supply the beautiful accommodation- you make the memories.
I will try and explain everything I can about the barn so that you can picture it.

After parking your car directly in front of the property, you walk into the kitchen. The kitchen has french farmhouse original tiles, and is fully equipped with toaster, microwave, tassimo coffee machine, smeg double oven and smeg fridge freezer… basically everything you’ll need for your stay. We think of this room as the hub of the home. It has a ceramic pellet burner, so even in the coldest months it’s still a lovely room to spend your family time. There are double doors that open to your outside garden space.

From the kitchen you step down three steps into the lounge. From here you turn left into the utility room with a slimline washing machine, and through the utility room into the downstairs family shower room with shower cubicle, sink and WC. Back into the lounge which is approximately 28m2 with tiled flooring, woodburner, beautifully furnished, with books and games plus smart TV. You head upstairs from the lounge via the wooden staircase, and at the top of the stairs turn right into the master bedroom.

The master bedroom has a double sleigh bed. The ensuite full bathroom has a walk in shower, toilet and sink.

At the top of the stairs on the left is the twin bedroom, with original stone wall and original timber features. This room has a more contemporary feel, whereas the master is more classically furnished.

Both bedrooms have electric opening velux windows and electrically operated window blackout blinds.

In general, the barn is a beautifully furnished French experience, very warm and cosy and close to town. We offer you bikes to use during your stay & we really hope you’ll enjoy your time with us. Chinon is a beautiful medieval town. Great vineyards, the most amazing history, beautiful architecture, truly fabulous restaurants… we love it- that’s why we never went back to England!

Old house from the 15th century, in the old town of Chinon, rue Haute Saint Maurice, house with an interior courtyard overlooking the castle of Chinon. The house is composed of a large living room to rest, read or play board games, an inner courtyard in the calm of the fountain for breakfast.
From the Middle Ages, the nobles and royal officers had large stone houses built below the fortress. The 15th century mansions are distinguished by their L-shaped plan around a courtyard opening onto the street, their spiral staircase housed in a projecting turret at the corner of the buildings. There are beautiful examples of this in rue and place Saint-Maurice. In the 16th century, medieval mansions were remodeled to the taste of the Renaissance: the staircases were incorporated inside the buildings, while the corbelled turrets appeared on the facades. The window frames and dormers are adorned with pilasters and pediments. It is also in the high street, towards the west (rue Voltaire or Haute Saint-Maurice) that we find the most beautiful examples: Control of Waters and Forests, Bodard de la Jacopière hotel, Poirier de Beauvais hotel ...
