The host was very nice too and we managed with a mix of French, German and English languages. Eguisheim is a fantastic cosy small town with lots of good restaurants and then of course all the good Alsace white wine you can wish for. Eguisheim is quite in the middle of everything and we used it as a base for visiting Colmar, Turckheim, Ribeauville and Strasbourg. - "This was our sixth visit to Alsace over the past 25 years. This meant we had a clear idea of which villages were appealing to stay in, both in terms of their location and their beauty. Additionally, we had quite a list of things that the property MUST have - e.g. a useable kitchen in case Covid policies limited access to restaurants and air conditioning in case it was as hot as when we visited Alsace in August of 2016 and temperatures hit 95F/35C or more all week. Christine and Thierry's property was EXACTLY what we were hoping for! Their location on the outskirts of Eguisheim is perfect! It is an easy five minute walk into the old village (have dinner at La Pavillon Gourmand - amazing!). Additionally, within 3 or 4 minutes, you are out of the village and driving on the Route des Vins. Additionally, you are only fifteen minutes from the Gare (train station) in Colmar. But at night, the village is VERY quiet (except at midnight on Bastille Day when the next village set off fireworks, but we'll let them celebrate!). They keep the property exquisitely clean and it is well-decorated and furnished. Our bed was VERY comfortable (very important as we both have backs that sometimes don't respond well to beds that are too hard or too soft). My wife, in particular, loved that the beds can be adjusted to raise your head if you are reading. We were VERY happy with our stay with Christine and Thierry and their hospitality. I truly cannot think of anything that needs to be improved. Merci!"

Fortified city from1257, Eguisheim is proud of its picturesque concentric alleys with half-timbered houses richly flowered
(City classified 4 flowers).

Sixteen colongerous courtyards, fountains, the parish church houses a polychrome wooden sculpture known as the 'opening Virgin'. This 13th and 14th century work is the only example of this type in Alsace.

The lower Château d'Eguisheim, on Place Saint-Léon, is backed by an octagonal enclosure characteristic of the 13th century, made of bossed stones. Thicker than 2 meters in places, this wall was surrounded by water ditches, drained in 1835.
The castle is only accessible as part of guided tours offered by the tourist office.

Alsace is very proud! It recently has a new distinction as gratifying as its landscapes are beautiful and its villages in bloom. On France Télévisions channels, Eguisheim became the favorite village of the French in 2013.
