- "I've read in the comments before my trip that the pictures didn't make justice to how actually beatiful the views are, and I can say it is very much true. Before we set foot in the house we saw two beautiful white deer at the and of the valley. We felt we were in a Heidi book. The weather was rainny, cloudy and foggy but that did made only more special. We spent the mornings and afternoons enjoying the wide view through the floor-to-roof windows. The fog would cover the mountains and filled our trip with mysticism. We didnt foreseen the weather but luckily our hostess had the house very well provided for the opportunity. We played troubling tower and pictionary among some other options. The hostess anticipated our needs. She had the house very well provided with every thing we could possibly had needed, from the most important thing as an information book with every information you might need about the house functioning and surroundings to the most simplest thing as note book for the grocery shop list. We were even able to bake a lemon pie with the kitchen supplies that were in the house. We thanked Michelle many, many times along our stay. And we thank her now in this page so you may have the same lovingly holidays as me and my friends did."

The space
Stable & Nook is an eclectic space nestled in the heart of Hoddle. Our beds are complete with linen sheets and down quilts, to snuggle into on the cold winter nights or fling back on warmer summer evenings (yes ladies we know a top sheet is essential). An endless supply of rainwater means long hot showers are never a problem and a split system or wood look heater to stay cosy.
Gowns and blankets are supplied to cosy up on the butter soft leather lounge and gaze out at the rolling green hills or Netflix away the hours sipping on a Gurneys or local wine you picked up on your day out!!
Our bungalow offers a relaxed, cosy nook, perfect for a short getaway or longer sojourn. Plus, with the Great Southern Rail Trail on our doorstep, you can explore over 70kms of bike, hike, or horse-riding trails.
Guest access
Our cosy bungalow (they didn’t have Tardis as an option) is all yours. We are proudly an inclusive stay and all guests of any background or community are welcomed here into a safe space. The space around the bungalow is used by our horses to move about, but we are always aware of maintaining your privacy where possible.
Feel free to respectfully use the space around the bungalow and share a moment with our horses.
Other things to note
We stock a basic pantry due to our remote nature, which includes: Coffee Capsules (Nespresso), Coffee Bags, Black and Herbal Teas, Milk (please advise us prior to your stay which 'milk' you prefer) Salt, Pepper & Olive Oil, some dried herbs and spices, or prick fresh from our garden when in season.
You are working on country time now and most shops close early so we advise you stop at one of the general stores or supermarkets in Fish Creek or Foster on your way here or while out and about.
Amenities in your kitchenette include a coffee maker (pod) toaster, kettle, microwave, pancake maker/toaster, bar fridge, dishwasher, crockery, cutlery, knives, Chopping boards and serving dishes. If you are drawn to the amazing produce in the area we have a full kitchen in the group space just across the driveway that you are welcome to use to cook up a storm!!
If you ask nicely Tim can share with you where he sources, and how he prepares the 'Perfect' local grown, grass fed, Rib Eye...YUM
Please note, due to the nature of our business pets and young children will need to be supervised around our horses as they are very friendly. We ask that you only interact with our horses from outside their paddock (over the fence) as they run in a herd and can be overwhelmingly curious.
We are approximately 4.5kms to Fish Creek, 7kms to Foster, 15kms to Yanakie, 41kms to Tidal River. Roll down the hill to Fish Creek or Foster along the Great Southern Rail Trail.

- "We enjoyed our stay at Mhara in Foster. The property was isolated in suburban Foster up a hill with a magical view. The facilities were excellent. The hot water became an issue if you wanted to shower after dark. We did not receive any replies to our queries during our stay which was a bit frustrating." - "It’s like a secret hideaway. Barely a two-minute drive from Foster, you wind up a sweet little path and the house appears at the top of a hill. I was surprised by the spaciousness of the house and how gorgeous the views were. You can see rolling hills and trees from most rooms, but the best view is from the veranda where you can enjoy a coffee and listen to the quiet murmuring of many different birds. There’s a Nespresso machine, a great pool for warm days, adjacent BBQ (didn’t use it but I know a lot of ppl like to) and a big garden to explore. All rooms were clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Multiple living and dining areas! We never even made use of one of the lounges nor the formal dining area. RE the comment by another reviewer about the hot water running out quickly: this only seemed to affect the upstairs bathroom in the evenings so, if we all wanted to bathe after a busy day, we just made use of the downstairs bathroom. Wi-fi was excellent but weirdly Netflix was occasionally patchy in the evenings from the tv, so we would switch to watching Netflix from our own laptop which worked fine - never seemed to be an issue when the kids were watching cartoons in the morning. Foster is great for exploring Prom country. Visit Fish Creek if you’re a Noni the Pony fan! Atticus bookstore make a great coffee. Decent pub and bakery with friendly staff. We were lucky enough to be there when they had their craft market on. Overall a lovely experience - highly recommend!"
