Stanwell Park has a fascinating history
Jacaranda House is situated between two natural creeks (Stanwell and Hargraves Creeks) and two of the first houses owned by famous Australians. Sir Thomas Mitchell built the first house in Stanwell just down the road from Jacaranda house and it overlooks the main beach and two lagoons that are fed by the creeks. Sir Thomas was Australia's first Surveyor General who discovered and mapped much of the early colony. He declared Stanwell Park the jewel for where he wanted to reside. Just up the road in the other direction is 'Hillcrest', where Lawrence Hargraves first designed his box kite that lifted him 16 feet off the ground (hence the name of the local cafe) and led directly to the Wright Brothers' ability to take the first heavier than air powered flight. Indeed the first commercial airplane ever built was named in honour of Lawrence's remarkable contributions. As an interesting aside, two houses up from Jacaranda is Articles Art Gallery, originally the second Mitchell House and later the first Guest House in Stanwell Park (opposite the first location of the railway station) and nearby the famous rail line viaduct. In honour of this history, Jacaranda House has a gallery of historical photographs.

Fernleigh Cottage Homestay accommodation is located in Stanwell Park, the first beach south of the Royal National Park.
The accommodation is a self-contained apartment on the lower level of our house with off street parking and separate entry. There is a large main room which has a king sized bed, 2 lounges, a table and chairs and a small kitchen area. There is a small adjoining bedroom which has a double bed with single bunk above, and there is also a small bathroom.
Outside there is a covered patio with a daybed, an outdoor table and chairs, a bbq, a small portable oven with 2 hotplates on top, with some pots and pans in the cupboard underneath.
There is also an above ground pool surrounded by decking and a spa available for guest use.
Stanwell Park is completely surrounded by bushland and the ocean. The area is famous for its Hang Gliding and Para Gliding from Bald Hill which overlooks the coastline from Stanwell Park to Wollongong.
Symbio Wildlife Park is close by.
Other activities include bushwalking, horse riding, golf, tennis and just relaxing on the beach.
The village of Stanwell Park has a bottle shop and some necessities can be found in some of the several excellent cafes. There is also an Art Gallery and Gift shops. The beach kiosk also serves wholesome eat-in or takeaway meals.
How to get there.
From the North: Drive south on the Princes Highway through Sutherland and Waterfall. After Waterfall stay on the M1 towards Wollongong. Take the Helensburgh exit and follow the signs to Stanwell Park. As you come to the bottom of the escarpment take the second turning to the left which passes the shops. After you pass the Stanny Temptations store, take the next street on your left, Stanwell Ave. At the end of a median strip planted with palms make a U turn into a service road and you have arrived.
From the South: Follow the Princes Highway to Bulli. After Bulli turn right into Lawrence Hargrave Drive and follow the coast to Stanwell Park. Shortly after Murrawal Rd (which is the first street on your right), veer right at the Articles Art Gallery building. Immediately after the gallery there are two streets to the right from almost the same point. Stanwell Ave is the second and higher street.
Train: Travelling by rail from both Sydney and Wollongong is a very picturesque journey with a 10 minute walk downhill from the station.
Local Attractions and Amenities
It is a 10 minute drive to Helensburgh, where you will find a local pub, boutique shops, cafes and restaurants, ATMs, and a supermarket.
There are great bush walks to do in the area, from 30 min to several hour walks, including the Wodi Wodi track to Mt Mitchell and beyond, Stanwell Tops, Bald Hill and the Coast track from Otford into the Royal National Park.
Also nearby are horse riding schools at Darkes Forest and Otford, Golf courses at Darkes Forest and a driving range at Helensburgh, Harley Bike Tours at Stanwell Tops, and many lovely nearby beaches.
Sea Cliff Bridge is a 10 minute drive, the only bridge of it's kind in Australia, which was built to reconnect the most northern suburbs of Wollongong to the other northern Wollongong suburbs.

Kim's Place is a self contained apartment with Queen bed, ensuite, living area and balcony. It is located on the ground floor of our architect designed family home. Guests have their own private access to the apartment.
The kitchenette is equipped with microwave, toaster, small fridge, coffee and tea necessities and a portable single element induction cooking plate.
There is no built in cook top or oven in the kitchenette. There is a Weber BBQ on the guest balcony.
The bedroom has a queen size bed. The en-suite has a shower, toilet and basin, (no bath). The balcony and living area have extensive beach and ocean views.
The beach is a a short walk across the road and down the park. Cafes and shops of Stanwell Park village are an easy 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The apartment is ideally suited for couples.

The most important stuff for me was the bed linens and bathroom which were spotless. The photos and description on the listing were very accurate, heaps of parking and easy to get to. The Courtyard Room is a studio apartment with a private entrance and situated under the main residence. It has one large room which includes the sleeping area, dining area and lounge area. There is a separate bathroom and kitchen. See fuller description below.
We provide 3 separate accommodation facilities each with there own private access and bathrooms. You may want to chat with us when you arrive or you can pick up the key from the deposit and never have to interact with us at all, we hope not though.
YellowtailStay - Stanwell Tops is set in a small acreage of stunning rolling lawns with a sandstone surrounded dam and encompassed by bush. We are a 5 minute drive to any shops.
We are a 1 minute walk to world famous Bald Hill Lookout, over the road from The Royal National Park and a 5 minute drive to Stanwell Park Beach, wedding venues, The Tops Centre and Helensburgh, (although, these are a very impractical walk, as are the nearest shops). Bald Hill is a haven for hang gliders and paragliders and the view of the Northern Illawarra, the escarpment and The Sea Cliff Bridge is rated by many, as one of the best in the world. The start of the Royal National Park Coast Walk is 1 km away just past the iconic Otford Pantry but there are numerous other bush walks near by, with a couple running next to the property.
The property is close to numerous wedding venues at Stanwell Tops and Lillyvale. All are short drives but impractical walks.
Guests have access to a fully equipped laundry with a clothes dryer and ironing board.
Coffee shops, restaurants and supermarkets are a short but spectacular drive to the south at Wombarra and Austinmere or a 5 minute drive north to Helensburgh. The Symbio Zoo is 5 minutes away with a golf driving range and putt putt across the road. The Boomerang Golf Course is a further 5 minutes drive. Horse riding at Otford Valley Farm is 5 minutes drive with the main trail running along our boundary.
Cycling and motor bike riding are popular pursuits in the area and there are many rainforest walks, 10-20 minutes to the north and spectacular escarpment walks to the south.
Rock fishing venues are all around, the orchard outlets of Darks Forrest are 10 minutes drive and the beaches of the Royal National Park and Audley are a half hour along Lady Wakehurst Drive. The Govinda Valley Retreat with its yoga and meditation centre and vegetarian cooking classes is just along the Hacking River and The Hindu, Sri Venkateswara Temple, a 3 minute drive.
Trains from Central or Sutherland can take you to Otford Station which is about a 1.8km gentle downhill walk from YellowtailStay. If the walk from the station is too much we are happy to arrange a pickup if we are available.
Bald Hill and the beautiful Otford Valley really are the centre of the universe, but a long way from the stress of every day living

This studio apartment is a large bedroom/lounge room with a separate kitchenette and separate contemporary bathroom. It features a queens sized bed, 'click clack' sofa bed and could accommodate up to 4 people. Towels and bed linen are supplied.Tea and coffee facilities are also supplied
The lounge area has the TV and DVD player. The area is air-conditioning with comfortable lounge chairs, and small dinning area. The kitchenette has small fridge, sink, microwave, cooktop, toaster, crockery, cutlery and basic cooking equipment. More than enough facilities to self cater.
Outside is a cool shaded courtyard area with a BBQ and a huge rolling backyard.

This is our other downstairs studio apartment. Own private access.

The bungalow features an ensuite, linen, ducted air conditioning, a 55” Smart TV with Netflix and Apple TV, a beautiful reclining leather lounge, a fully stocked kitchen, and filtered water.
Guest soap, shampoo, etc can be found in the bathroom. Bed and bath linen are provided, along with wireless internet, games, and books.

A comfortable character filled mid century modern freshly renovated, cedar beachside 3-bedroom house in Stanwell Park. Stroll across the road to the public reserve which leads to gorgeous Stanwell Park beach, a 7 min walk. Cafes, a bottle shop, Thai restaurant, art gallery and candle and pottery studio, a 2 min walk.
There is plenty of space to lounge around in the large open plan living and dining area, and enjoy the outlook over a bushland reserve.

There is a large living room that can accommodate everyone with a Bluetooth sound system , books & board games.
Need soma space? Why not gather in the large entertainers kitchen or have some time out in the tv nook.
There is a home gym on the property & an outdoor shower to wash the sand away after a sun drenched day at the beach .
There is room for 2 cars in the driveway & an extra car space on the gravel driveway next to the house.

- "Great property for a wonderful coastal weekend away with friends. Less than five minutes rainforest walk to huge parkland, playground and beach as well a range of cafes in either direction. Great for runners and cyclists as well as tennis players with courts across the road. Clean and spacious property for two families (3 kids / 4 adults) with multiple inside and outside areas to escape. Hotel quality bedding and well stocked entertainer's kitchen making it easy to cook at home. No grocery shops in walking distance so need to pack ahead although local cafe sold eggs and milk at the cellars! Hosts were prompt in communications and happy to answer questions. Would definitely return as the property makes it easy to relax and enjoy the stunning beach and local area."

Stanwell Park Seaside Cottage has 2 bedrooms with comfortable queen beds in both rooms, a newly renovated kitchen and landscaped backyard located right in the heart of Stanwell Park, a quiet street only a couple of minutes easy walk to the beach, shops and cafes.
The cottage is surrounded by bush and beach with escapement views from the front and back deck. Only 10mins walk to Stanwell Park station.
Stanwell Park is a coastal village in the northern suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is the northernmost point of the Illawarra coastal strip and lies only 5 minutes to the southern entry to Sydney's famous Royal National Park. If you enjoy hiking there's no shortage of spectacular walks in the Royal or one of many local walks within minutes of Stanwell Park. The seaside village of Stanwell Park is a hidden gem right in your own backyard with a variety of cafes and a Thai Restaurant. Home to stunning headlands and immaculate waterfront reserves, Stanwell Park is renowned for its picturesque scenery. Whether it's spending a day relaxing at Stanwell Park Beach, taking a walk in the local area or hiking in the Royal National Park. If you head south theres the famous Sea Cliff Bridge, another one of my favourite things to do in summer is swim in one of the many sea pools dotted along the coast there’s Coalcliff, Wombarra, Coledale, Austinmer, Thirroul & beyond you could visit Kellys Falls at Stanwell Tops there's plenty to do in and around the area. Drive or walk up to Bald Hill and enjoy the views and watch the Paragliders / Hanggliders take flight grab an icecream while you’re there.
Just 10 mins towards Helensburgh is Symbio Wildlife Park a great day out for the family.

This elevated and oversized home offers unique and uninterrupted ocean and coastal views that span the horizon, it’s where the mountain meets the sea. A split level design with high raked ceilings, where the large or extended family can spread around, with multiple relaxation and entertainment areas.
Please note that there are rather a lot of stairs in this home, so if you have mobility issues or have small children this home may suit you. Please check the floor plan for the layout.

The location
North East aspect provides a direct view of Bald Hill, one of the world’s great coastal sites, famous for its Hang Gliding all year round. Why not combine this experience of a lifetime with your holiday break?
Look down to the beautiful patrolled Stanwell Park Beach, with its SLSC, just under the Escarpment off the Grand Pacific Drive. There is a large reserve with plenty of space for families to play around and have a picnic, with BBQ facilities available.
There are some great cafes worth a visit within a 10 minutes’ walk, or 2 minutes by car. Best rated for their coffee and snacks by TripAdvisor are “Loaf Café”, “16 Feet Espresso” and “Hargrave Café”.
Take a drive South to experience the beauty of the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge, a highlight along Grand Pacific Drive. It stretches along the rockface of the Illawarra Escarpment with many tourists talking a walk along the bridge, hoping to catch a glimpse of migrating whales or dolphins frolicking below.
There are plenty of great places to visit and stop for a meal along the coast. There is a newly renovated Imperial Hotel in Clifton, just on the other side of the Sea Cliff Bridge.
There is the popular Scarborough Hotel with its outdoor dining areas on the cliff edge, as well as the famous Headlands Hotel in Austinmer.
For families, the Symbio Wildlife Park in Helensburgh is a must to visit, great fun for all ages to interact with zoo and farm animals. The children will love the new adventure playground and the splash park as well.
Conditions of Occupation
Quiet hours for outside noise from 10pm – 8am. There is plenty of room to socialise inside.
To maintain a high standard for tenants the following conditions of occupation apply:
(a) Use of premises – the premises are let for holiday purposes only and for the period stated on the receipt.
(b) Smoking is not permitted inside the house.
(c) Number of guests should NOT exceed the number stated in the Confirmation Notice unless subsequently agreed in writing or email. Additional fees will apply for excess guests not agreed with the Owner in advance and these will be deducted from the bond.
(d) Parties and Functions are strictly prohibited. The premises are located in the residential area and have a strict no party policy. NO weddings, parties or large gatherings are permitted.
(e) Noise – Noise to be kept to a minimum. With NO outside noise from 10pm. In the event of noise complaints which result in Holiday Letting Organisation or Police call out, or should a noise order be issued, the Owner reserves the right to immediately evict the Tenant and retain the whole of the bond.
(f) Damage, Breakages, Theft and Loss – the Tenant is responsible for the tenant’s personal property. The cost of repair or replacement of any item in the premises or the premises itself due to damage and/or breakages will be deducted from the bond and may include additional charges.
(g) No dogs allowed under any circumstances

The house itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with all the essentials. Each bedroom has been thoughtfully decorated, super comfortable beds and lots of linen to choose from. You have a delightful view of the beach and coastline from the balconies and the main bedroom, simply stunning and immediately relaxing. We could hear the sound of the waves at night. While there we saw a pod of whales swimming. This made for a super special stay. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway and will definitely be returning"
