Situated on a private, 64-acre mountainous parcel on the outskirts of Whittier, NC, Gap Creek Cabin was built by Jim & Terry Altman - and family - in 1971. The cabin continues to be owned and cared-for by the family. Located in an area known as Deep Gap, and bordered on two sides by spring-fed, mountain creeks, the area inspired the cabin name.
Accommodating up to 6 adults, a recently renovated kitchen, bathroom with a shower, large front porch with a bench-swing, and an outside deck for grilling, relaxing, and enjoying the creek adds to the mountain-living experience. There is also an outdoor shower (with hot & cold running water), a separate, outside 1/2 bath, and a laundry room. A large fire-pit invites fun evenings spent under the stars and the property’s 64 acres offer hiking adventures and plenty of privacy. Guests are encouraged to bring hiking boots, a compass and camera - and to remember that the mountains are habitats for area wildlife.

Dillsboro NC elevation starts at 1,975 feet. Think of this as your starting point. If you want to get a beautiful mountain view, you've gotta climb some mountains. Mountain roads are typically gravel, steeper, narrower and curvier than you may be use to driving. This is all part of our charm.
We do have one big hill to get up. It is gravel. We regularly drive a Hyundai Sonata up. While AWD vehicles make everything easier they are not required. Turn off traction control, Maintain an even speed (10mph) going up and do not stop. You should have no issues.

We also have DVDs and a DVD player for movie time as well as board games and puzzles for family bonding.

Our cabin is specifically designed to be a place of relaxation. A place to get away from it all. To unplug and spend quality time bonding with friends and family. A place to move at a slower, more quiet pace. Therefore, we purposely do not have internet at the cabin. There is cell service available* if you need to look something up or get directions online. (*depending on your carrier, AT&T and Verizon has good service here)

NOTICE: Please be advised that this amazing view means you have to travel a good ways up a mountain road to get there. Our road is at times steep and narrow and is only paved 1/3 of the way. It is not meant for vehicles with trailers nor should you come here on your motorcycle. 4 wheel drive is recommended. Please know that the ride up may be a challenge for drivers not experienced with mountain driving on a gravel road. The drive is worth it, but if you are not comfortable with the thought of steep, narrow, dirt roads then perhaps a cabin at lower elevation would be more suitable for your needs and expectations.

GPS is fairly reliable and can get you close but we’ve posted many Valley View signs and give specific directions to get you to our little private piece of heaven. Trust us the View and our quiet cozy cabin is worth it!

Firewood for the fire pit is not provided, but can be purchased at Lowe's in Sylva or several locations in Bryson City. Most gas stations in this area sell firewood.

We are located in a subdivision called Indian Trails. It is situated inside Cherokee lands. When driving up our road you will see a sign that says Private Property Indian Trails subdivision. Continue to proceed and follow the signs to Valley View.

This central location is perfect with easy access to several small towns, including Bryson City, Cherokee, Sylva and other scenic destinations and activities available in the Smokies, yet secluded enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. The local mountain towns offer shops, restaurants, breweries, wineries and lots of outdoor activities (hiking, biking, rafting, kayaking, tubing and much more) that you will surely find something to your liking. Bryson City is also the host for the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad (GSMR) train that offers scenic rides to the Nantahala Gorge, Dillsboro and also Whittier during the Christmas holiday season as the 'Polar Express' (heads up: may catch a glimpse from Tucked Away as it makes its way to the North Pole). The GSMR operates using a historic Steam Locomotive to add the nostalgia, romance and character of a train ride (especially the 'Polar Express').

Also, within a 20-minute radius of Tucked Away is access the to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, which offers endless hiking, and scenic drives with endless views in every direction. Also, the Deep Creek portion of the national park is located just outside Bryson City with excellent creek tubing during the Spring and Summer months and miles and miles of hiking trails accessible all year round with multiple waterfalls. Also, nearby in the town of Cherokee with the Harrah's Casino, more shopping and restaurants and yes, even more hiking (yes more waterfalls too) and other activities. If you like golf, Tucked Away is in a great location as well with quick access to the Sequoyah National Golf Course in Cherokee (10 minutes) and Smoky Mountain Country Club (10 minutes) in Whittier, as well as others within the surrounding area.

If more water fun is what you are looking for, you can reach the Almond Boat Dock on Fontana Lake in about 25 minutes for some great swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing options! Or you can experience the exhilaration of white-water rafting, zip lining, and other adventurous excursions out in the Nantahala Gorge located about 20-25 minutes away.

Tucked Away is also a short drive to Sylva and Waynesville as well, yet if you want to venture little further Asheville is about a 50-minute drive, with the Biltmore, Grove Park Inn and a vibrant downtown area with lots of restaurants, breweries, galleries and shops to enjoy the day exploring. Tucked Away is close enough to plug into fun, but tucked away so you can unplug.

This cabin recommends a higher clearance vehicle for access like an SUV or Truck. Mini Vans and lower clearance vehicles will not be advised. The roads to this cabin are not considered 'Motorcycle Friendly'.

Tucked Away is a quaint single level cabin that offers 2 bedrooms and 2 baths with a rustic modern decor. The cabin offers privacy, peace, quiet and scenic views for guests to enjoy during their stay. The cabin hosts a fire pit for gathering around a warm and cozy fire on a cool evening, as well as porch with a swing, rockers, and outdoor dining set to enjoy the views of the river and the Smoky Mountains (great sunset views). A gas grill is also available to make something tasty up and a corn hole set to get your game on while you hang out. If you bring your furry friends, there is plenty of space to walk them around the cabin and down the driveway as well, without the worry of traffic.

Interior :
The charm and character of this rustic modern cabin is apparent from the moment you step in the front door. The living room offers a stone gas log fireplace for the cool nights and comfy sofa and chairs to gather and maybe even take in a movie on the flat screen TV. Adjacent to the living room is the open concept dining area and a modern fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances, custom cabinetry and a coffee bar area for your morning cup of java. This luxurious two-bedroom, two-bath condo offers gorgeous golf course, creek and mountain views! While enjoying the view on the deck, you can listen to the peaceful sounds of the creek running by. The primary bedroom has a King bed. Bedroom #2 has a Queen bed.
The living room is accented by a wall of stone rising from the gas fireplace to the ceiling.
The en suite master bath contains a vanity countertop and both bathtub and shower. The guest bath has a vanity, tub and shower as well.
The full kitchen features a gas range/oven, 25 cu ft side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, keurig duo coffee maker that takes both K cups and carafe pot filter coffee, and microwave. The kitchen is fully- equipped, allowing you to cook any meals you desire to eat. The laundry room contains a washer and dryer.
The dining room, great room and bedrooms have hardwood floors, and the kitchen and bathrooms have tile floors.
