Situated on a private, 64-acre mountainous parcel on the outskirts of Whittier, NC, Gap Creek Cabin was built by Jim & Terry Altman - and family - in 1971. The cabin continues to be owned and cared-for by the family. Located in an area known as Deep Gap, and bordered on two sides by spring-fed, mountain creeks, the area inspired the cabin name.
Accommodating up to 6 adults, a recently renovated kitchen, bathroom with a shower, large front porch with a bench-swing, and an outside deck for grilling, relaxing, and enjoying the creek adds to the mountain-living experience. There is also an outdoor shower (with hot & cold running water), a separate, outside 1/2 bath, and a laundry room. A large fire-pit invites fun evenings spent under the stars and the property’s 64 acres offer hiking adventures and plenty of privacy. Guests are encouraged to bring hiking boots, a compass and camera - and to remember that the mountains are habitats for area wildlife.

Dillsboro NC elevation starts at 1,975 feet. Think of this as your starting point. If you want to get a beautiful mountain view, you've gotta climb some mountains. Mountain roads are typically gravel, steeper, narrower and curvier than you may be use to driving. This is all part of our charm.
We do have one big hill to get up. It is gravel. We regularly drive a Hyundai Sonata up. While AWD vehicles make everything easier they are not required. Turn off traction control, Maintain an even speed (10mph) going up and do not stop. You should have no issues.

- "Wonderful cabin. Quiet and peaceful. They provide everything you might need. The porch/deck is great for sitting out and listening to the nearby creek. Has a BBQ grill, which is nice. The road up is rough, but not overly difficult. Surrounding area (Bryson City and Cherokee) is nice with lots to do. As with all VRBOs, the cleaning fee is too high, but besides that would definitely recommend. Glad I picked this cabin." - "Great little cabin in the woods away from all the noise. Downtown Bryson City has an elevation of 1,752 feet, so think of this as a starting point. The majority of our cabins will have a higher elevation than this. This means that our roads- both state and private- will be steeper, narrower, and curvier than you may be use to driving. Also, you should expect to encounter gravel roads. Consider it part of our rural mountain charm!
