- "I booked the property to spend time with my adult children and their families while we attended a wedding. The house has been completely renovated and upgraded with high end finishes. It is unfortunate that previous guests have abused the premises and caused damage. However this did not affect the enjoyment of our stay. The property met all of our needs and I would book it again." - "We stayed at this property over the Christmas Holidays 2022. We are a family of 4 from Calgary. We rent a large house each year so that we can host Holiday Dinners and get togethers. We rented the same house last year and had a fabulous experience. We did not realize there were new owners. This year we had a horrible experience that ruined our Holidays. Issues - House was filthy. Stained carpets, drinks splattered on all the walls, dirty baseboards, dead plants, curtains hanging off their rods. My mother-in-law had arrived a day earlier to drop off a Christmas tree. She reported the mess. We messaged the owner to ask for additional cleaning before we arrived. He said he sent a cleaning company. It was obvious when we arrived that this was a lie. I spent over 6 hours cleaning upon arrival so that we could host our family. - Had a mouse infestation - Had no hot water for the entirety of our stay, Had to boil water to wash dishes and could not shower. - Found drugs (half smoked joints) all over the house. Not ideal when you have small kids. All of this was communicated to the owner. He acknowledged this was all very bad and said he would give us a discount upon checkout. On the last day, we were outside playing with our kids. We heard running water coming from an outdoor bathroom/pool house. We alerted the owner and checked out. A few hours later the owner charged $1200 to our credit card. He is accusing us of maliciously turning on the water in the pool house and allowing it to run and freeze in order to get back at him for the bad experience. This is absurd. We are two 50-year-old professionals, why would we do that? We have 10+ years of perfect history on VRBO, renting high end homes. It was -28 degrees Celsius and this is a very old home. We also had no access to the pool house. It is obvious to me that his pipes burst in the cold, uninsulated pool house. It blows my mind that the Renter has no protection in this instance and that the owner can charge us for something that was not our fault. Stay far, far, far away from this owner. He lied to us from the beginning, saying he was not the owner but only the property manager. As soon as he accused us of damaging the house, suddenly he became the owner. Immediately after he charged our credit card, he communicated to us that he was leaving the country for 2 months and blocked our numbers."
