Nestled into the hillside, up a steep driveway is a beautiful Tuscan style stone dwelling that is spacious and airy. In a downstairs apartment (there is an upstairs apartment onsite) you will find one queen bed in a separate bedroom, and an adjoining open plan office that accommodates a bunk bed (double below, single above). A spacious modern cottage with a large lounge, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and laundry and undercover parking. We have a working hobby farm of 50 acres, with sheep, cows, alpacas, goats and chickens. Your stay includes continental breakfast.

The Space:
The Retreat is a fully self-contained cottage. Your hosts Bob & Shirley live in a separate house on the same property. They have a cot and/or a portacot they can assemble for an extra $20. If you would like to use 1 or 2 cots, please request this before your check in day.

Your stay includes 1-1.5 hours of guided farm activities with Bob & Shirley. You will get to experience hand feeding + petting the alpacas, sheep, calves/steers, goats, chickens and tour the farm and ride in their 1915 T-model vintage car. Jenny the Labrador dog also comes on tour with you and she enjoys pets/belly rubs.

Guest Access:
Enter property from highway, proceed 100m and open automatic house gate by pressing a button. Follow signs and park in the carport of the first building which will be your accommodation.

The Retreat is located 136km from Melbourne, 16km from Bendigo, and 12km from Kangaroo Flat shopping centre. Bendigo is centrally located to provide an ideal home base to visit many regional centres.

Getting Around:
You are welcome to self-drive to our property. Alternatively, if you need public transport Kangaroo Flat station is the closest. We are willing to collect and return you to the station for a small fee of $20.

HeartStone Hill is located on a beautiful elevated 2.5 acre bush property 7 mins drive out of town. Just past the Royal Botanical Gardens. The Studio was previously an artist's studio and is made from Castlemaine sandstone. Our retro/historical farmhouse was one of the childhood homes of Albert Facey, the author of the million-selling Australian classic 'A Fortunate Life'.

A little piece of history, set on 4 acre surrounded by Green Gully creek & tucked under the Sandon ridge. The original stone dwelling (circa 1853) was running as the Sandon Tavern until around 1910, the second dwelling (Studio) built approximately 20 years ago has a beautiful large living room with fire place, entertaining courtyard with pizza oven & two beautiful bedrooms. It is the perfect weekend get-away to relax & explore the local surrounds of Castlemaine, Daylesford & Maldon.

The space
Ross and I live on the property in the (main cottage). If we are home, feel free to knock on the door to say hello or wave as we wander by.

In the guest house we have two queen size beds with bedding & towels provided. We have a lovely outdoor court yard for you to enjoy.

The space does not have a full kitchen, however we have a kitchenette with microwave, toaster, kettle, electric stove, fridge and in the courtyard we also have a dishwasher, full oven, and a Pizza oven. We've tried to make it as user friendly as possible.

The house has a large fire place and a split system for both heating and cooling needs.

Lastly there is limited phone reception, generally we can get enough to make a call or send a text when we are in the paddock however we can not guarantee this as it's always changing. We have WiFi set up for you to be able to use while you are here, so you can still communicate with the wider world over internet based apps or wifi calling if your phone allows.

We also have a TV with chrome cast so you can stream your shows.

If you have children please let us know if you require a port-a-cot or children's mattress - we are happy for children to stay however we have not child proofed the house and you need to be aware of the creek that runs our boundary.

Guest access
The Studio is on a 5 acre farm. The studio is a private space which has it's own fully enclosed courtyard. It also has access to an outdoor section overlooking the creek and garden. You can also visit the chickens and help yourself to their fresh eggs. Additionally we have a small pottery studio which we are happy for guests to use/learn how to use the pottery wheel for a small cost. If you are interested in this please message us prior to discuss details as it is only available if booked in advanced.

Other things to note
We have two friendly but excitable Brittany Spaniel dogs. They may bark at you when you arrive but they are very friendly and will likely come up to you to say hello. They are both 3 years old, we are working very hard to train them not to jump but when they're excited they can jump up from time to time.

The studio is cosy, being open plan living/kitchen/bedroom/study with a door to the bathroom, and whilst most suitable for a single person or a couple, it also has a sofa bed that can accommodate an additional adult or two small children.

As a guest, you will have the privacy and seclusion of being located approximately 30 meters from the main house, surrounded by garden, farmland and separated from the nearest neighbour by foliage. Our property spans over one and a half acres, situated among farmland and sparse neighbours.

*Please note this listing is best suited for 1-2 adults. The second bed is a fold out sofa bed, and will accommodate 1-2 children, or 1 adult, whether it can sleep 2 adults is up to you, it is slightly smaller than a double bed, there will be a $25 fee if this extra bed is required.*

Bed and Linen - no expense spared as a good night's sleep is our number one priority

Bathroom and bed linen is PROFESSIONALLY LAUNDED in a commercial laundry for hygiene

Bathroom - is spacious with a bath to soak after a long day, hairdryer is provided

Kitchen- new fully equipped Nordic style with all up to date mod cons and cooking utensils

The snug - is light filled with leather couches and a Smart TV (internet provided), mounted on a swivel so you can watch from anywhere in the loft

European laundry - full-size front loader washing machine and dryer, for your convenience

Outside courtyard - has a decking and seating area for you and your doggie to enjoy
