Adaúfe is a small village but has all the necessary amenities (pharmacy, health center, analyst (blood, urine, etc.), ATM, gas station, hairdresser, supermarket, cafes, bakery, butcher, etc.). It also has 2 large shopping centers 5 km away, and Braga (3rd Portuguese city) is about 5 km from Casa do Alto. Porto International Airport is only 50 minutes away.
You will need a car to get around, but there is a frequent bus service to Braga and local taxis are also available. Casa do Alto has plenty of parking space.
Casa do Alto is an old renovated stone country house, on a farm, which is nestled in the hillside of the Cavado River Valley. This is not far from the campus of the University of Minho. It has exquisite views from all sides and part of the ancient Roman road to Braga is right at the back gate. The "eira" in stone (or patio where cereals dried) is one of the largest in the Minho region (484 m2) and many memorable events have taken place there.
Casa do Alto is he perfect place to stay as a base to visit this region of Portugal or just relax in the property itself (1 hectare) either in the garden or in the wooded area with oaks, cork oaks, sweet chestnuts among many other varieties of trees. - "The house is high up in the mountains over steep streets. The Caso do Alto on Google Maps slightly deviates from the actual entrance. Use the coordinates given by the owner instead. You arrive at a gate which the owners will open for you. We were warmly greeted by Tania, and her family, and the dog (which they kept on a leash during our stay). The upper apartment, which is next to the owners, has wonderful views from the small balcony. The rooms are very spacious, and they are all airconditioned (although we hardly used it due to the cool breeze in the evenings). The pool is very large, and open to the owners and the renters of the second apartment. It is some stairs away from the apartment. We had a wonderful bbq at the poolside. In conclusion, we had a wonderful stay, and would definitely stay here again."
