In the end, all was well, found groceries on google map and a lovely staff person took and returned my laundry next week for 10 euro. Night before I left, I messaged asking instructions about departure and key. Never got any answer at all. I left the key in the room. In short, the place was great for my needs and all worked out but the communication with the host was nothing like I have experienced elsewhere in Portugal -- and this was not at all a matter of language."
