The Loft Room@Craigrossie is a self-catering space for two on Craigrossie Game Farm, 8 km (3kms on good gravel road) outside of Clarens towards Golden Gate. The self-contained space has a loft room with views over the dams & mountains, a queen bed with 100% cotton bedding, bathroom and a kitchenette downstairs. A borehole supplies water. DSTV, WiFi, tea, coffee & kitchen essentials (spices & olive oil) are provided. Bring your own rod for catch & release trout fishing (daily rod fees apply).
The space
The Loft Room is part of our house on Craigrossie Game Farm. The space comprises the loft, which is the bedroom, bathroom and sitting area and a small kitchenette. The loft has wonderful views over the dams and surrounding mountains; even the bathroom has a great view! In case there is absolutely nothing on TV, there is a DVD player in room; please bring your own DVDs to watch if you would like. For the chilly winter months there is a heater in the Loft Room, plenty of blankets, an electric blanket and a winter weight feather duvet on the bed to keep things warm and cozy. For your comfort, the Loft Room also has an air conditioner which can be used to cool or heat the space.
There is a mini oven with two plates, a microwave, kettle, toaster and Nespresso machine in the kitchen as well as a fridge freezer. We provide 6 coffee pods for the Nespresso machine for each weekend stay; you are welcome to bring along your own as well.
Please note that the Loft Room is a non-smoking space. We would appreciate it if you would smoke outside.
We do a thorough clean after every guest, but the Loft Room does not have a daily cleaning service. If you intend to stay for 4 days or more, please let us know and we will make arrangements to service the space.
In case of power outages or load shedding (hopefully not!) we have gas facilities available for cooking and heating. A borehole provides water.
Please note that we do have dogs; a German Shepherd and a dachshund.
Guest access
Guests have access to the Loft Room via the garage. The garden and farm are available to all guests; there are a number of cottages on the farm, we just ask that everyone acts considerately. There are lovely walks around the dams, and also spaces to sit and watch the birds, buck, zebra and donkeys. The terrain is quite rugged but you are also welcome to bring your mountain bike and ride on the farm.
The two dams are great for fly fishing on a strictly catch and release basis (no spinners!); a daily rod fee is charged. We don't supply rods at the moment; please bring your own. Please fish off the dam walls and far banks and not in front of the cottages. These are privately owned and the owners are often there.

Note that the Loft Room is a non-smoking space. Please smoke outside.
We have a large German Shepherd dog.
The Loft Room is on Craigrossie Game Farm, which is located on a good quality gravel/dirt road. There is a 3km drive on the gravel road from the turn off to our gate. It is always advisable to drive slowly and carefully on gravel roads!
Our WiFi services are provided by a local service provider in Bethlehem, so it can be a little unreliable! Our line is uncapped with speeds of up to 1Mb/s. If you have any problems, trying turning the router in the top drawer of the TV cabinet off and on, please let us know if the problem persists.
We have a social media page (@LoftRoomCraigrossie) where we have information on events in the area, more photos of the place and some pictures on our renovation project. The Loft Room also an Instagram account (loft_room_craigrossie) where photos of the area and space are uploaded.
From the end of March to August it can start to get rather chilly, especially in the evenings, so please bring something warm to wear.
Some tips:
-It gets pretty busy in Clarens on the weekends, so make sure to book a table at the restaurant of your choice. Most restaurant kitchens close by 9pm, and some restaurants are closed for a day during the week. Please let us know if you need information or recommendations.
-The house is on a 3km dirt road, please drive slowly; your suspension will thank you!
-Please contact us for directions and a status update on the best route.
-Being a small town, most shops in Clarens close at around 4 or 5 pm so make sure you get your goodies before then. The grocery suppliers in town stock a very basic range of goods, supplemented by the deli stores. One of the stores only accepts payments in cash. If you need to do a major shop before checking in, it may be worthwhile to stop in Bethlehem, Harrismith or Bergville.
- The nearest large town is Bethlehem, about 45kms away, which has retail, banking and full medical facilities. A lot of places outside of the Dihlabeng Mall which is the largest shopping centre will close at 12pm on a Saturday and may not open on Sunday at all. The Mall is open from 9am to 6pm during the week, 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and 9am to 2pm on Sundays and public holidays.

Villa 168 is a semi-detached unit situated on the Clarens Golf & Leisure Estate.
The three level home has 2 en suite bedrooms. The main bedroom, on the upper level, has a queen size bed and the en-suite bathroom has both a bath and a shower. The second bedroom is on the entrance level and has twin beds. This bathroom has both bath and shower facilities.
The kitchen is fully equipped with under counter oven/ hob, microwave oven and has granite counters.
The open plan living area is situated on the ground floor and has sliders to a large patio fitted with a charcoal/wood built in braai - wood/charcoal not provided. The living area has a TV with DStv and a gas fireplace.
The fireplace uses gas which can be arranged at an additional cost during the colder months (May - August)
There is a six seater dining area for relaxed holiday meals. The patio also has a table and chairs for the summer months when meals can be enjoyed outside.
