The mall is just around the corner, the lion park and zoo a short drive and plenty of shops nearby. The lodge backs onto a delightful stream and garden and you really don't feel like you are in Jo burg at all. Pearl and the other ladies are so helpful. Our daughter was sick while we stayed and they really helped out washing stuff for us. We weren't made to feel like a hassle at all. The unit is situated in a property with less than 20 metres away from Melville East Koppies, a nature reserve with panoramic views of the Johannesburg city skyline. A quiet street, but within walking distance to the buzz of Melville's famous 7th Street with restaurants and bars, and shops. Accessible with short Uber rides to nearby Parkhurst and Jhb Centre, as well with the Botanical Gardens and Emmarentia Dam - a rower and runners paradise - a stone throw in the other direction. Simply put - visitors to Johannesburg cannot skip on this one!

It is essential to enquire on availability of parking. Inside parking can otherwise not be guaranteed. Please note that Hursthill water tower which supplies Melville and the surrounding areas, has recently occasionally been experiencing supply issues. We have a back up water supply but if there is no water incoming from the municipality for extended periods (i.e for more than a day) our back up supply may run out when supply will be cut. We provide back up bottles for such emergencies. The same applies to electricity supply, unfortunately. The city is aware of the issue and giving it attention, but the problem may still persist during your stay. It can go for weeks without any interruption but on oher occasions there may be interruptions more closely following upon each other. Enquire before booking for update on prevailing status.

The space
Our location is quiet. The house is cradled amongst tall trees making it feel secluded. There is a lot of bird life, if you are lucky you could see a owl or a bird of prey Fly past. Our outside patio is a spacious area with a table and chairs to relax and unwind. This is overlooking a beautiful scenery of the pool, palms and overlooking the golf course across the road.
The room is on the second floor with the view of the outside area.
The room is called ‘top story’ because it should make the headlines and be posted on front page of every newspaper.

There is a private walkway up past the side of our house, leading to the cottage. Entrance to the property is usually through the automated exterior garage door although there is also a pedestrian gate. We have parking space for one guest car only.

There is a Nespresso Coffee machine available in the cottage, as well as a kettle and toaster. There’s a full size fridge with freezer. The four-plate stove is induction and there is a convection/microwave oven. The television is in the bedroom for your viewing comfort. Linen is changed weekly and a weekly cleaning service is offered at no extra charge. Our cleaning lady will be happy to do laundry for you.
We have CCTV cameras on the property for security purposes, but nothing facing the cottage. There is a solar-powered inverter to provide constant power and pure water is supplied from the borehole. WiFi is fibre- reliable and fast. If you are lucky, you may be visited by Falafel, the resident fat, black cat, but he mostly stays away from the cottage.
