Experience staying in an Old Gaol Cell. Our Twin Cell Room includes: one bunk bed, all linen, pillows, blankets and towels provided, a small hand basin, a mirror and is fitted with a wall heater for the winter days. All cells have access to shared bathrooms facilities, lounges and kitchens. All kitchens are fully equipped with utensils, stove, oven & microwave. Complimentary WIFI available.

The Old Mount Gambier Gaol opened as a functioning 'English Prison' in 1866 and closed it doors as a correctional facility in 1994.
We have converted ex-prison cells into dorm rooms, twin rooms and doubles. For the squeamish at heart we do also provide rooms which were not used as cells, but were instead the warden’s offices. All of our bathroom and kitchen facilities are communal except in the family room. We do offer some cells with en-suite toilets.

Double rooms contain a double bed, twins contain one set of single bunk beds. The family room contains two bedrooms (a double and a twin), a private lounge area, bathroom and kitchenette.
Please note all guests are required to arrive and check in before 9pm at night. Check out is at 10am.
We are located about five minutes walk from Mount Gambier's main street. Here you will find an array of restaurants, cafes and shops
The famous Blue Lake is a ten minute walk from the gaol, the Cave Gardens are about seven minutes away.

It has its own little kitchen and lounge area. Amerce yourself into yesteryear and experience our beautiful 155 year old prison and experience Australian history. You are welcome to stroll the courtyards and read the history signs throughout the building and enjoy your gaol experience. We are a little family of 5 who live inside the wall of the old prison and always love and welcome guests into our beautiful old building. It is the only gaol you will be sad to leave.

You will have total access to the whole gaol including the function room with a table tennis table, all communal lounges, chapels, courtyards and the history signs throughout the building. We are walking distance to all shops , cafes and restaurants. We are also only a 5 minute walk to the blue lake and valley lake .
