- "We had a great stay at Hotel Chantaco. We received a very warm welcome from the reception staff. The hotel is charming and has a lot of character. Our room was located on the top floor, unfortunately there is no lift, but the reception staff kindly carried my case up to the room. The food and service at the hotel restaurant was fantastic, accompanied by some good wine. We also had a couple of drinks at the club house and the service was great also. The was complimentary parking across the road. The location of the hotel is great, off the main road, however, this is a disadvantage as one cannot escape the road noise from any of the rooms. Would suggest installing wider glass screen curtains on the bath, to prevent the water flooding the floors whilst taking a shower. Otherwise would recommend this hotel."

After complaining we were upgraded to the largest room in the hotel which is what we thought we would get in the first place. The best part of the experience was meeting the chef, Olivier Lataste who created sumptuous meals for us. It is just outside the town centre, easily within walking distance, I walked into town and back most nights of my week long stay. If you prefer to stay in, there is a very good swimming pool, in a lovely garden setting, and a very good restaurant, where you have a choice of a meal, or you can help yourself to a buffet, with many choices. The rooms are reasonably well furnished, and always kept very clean. The best thing about this hotel though, which I think is the most important aspect of any hotel, is the quality of the staff, they are all very efficent, most speak English well, and all very helpful and very friendly, always with a smile on their face. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anybody who is planning to visit St Jean De Luz and its surrounding areas."

Hotel faces the major road through town so if you’re a light sleeper, there is street noise despite double paned windows, but earplugs are provided as a precaution. Our 50m² apartment is located on the courtyard side, on the first floor of an old family house, which has 4 apartments. Renovated in 2016, we wanted it simple and functional. The beach is 50m, Place Louis XIV 100m, shops, cafes and restaurants are close by, within walking distance, and yet you will be quiet. At the end of the street is a square with games for children and a small pediment.
The apartment is located in a quiet historic area between the beach and the port. Cortchou Baïta, the name of the house, dates from the beginning of the 17th century.
From there you can do it all on foot! And for those who would like not to use the car, you arrive by train (the stations, SNCF and bus, are 10 minutes on foot) and then you use public transport to visit the surroundings. Bayonne, Biarritz, Guétary, Bidart and Hendaye are served by train and bus. Sare, Saint Pée sur Nivelle and Urrugne can be reached by bus. To go to San Sebastian, take the Topo at Hendaye station. From the port, you can take the small maritime shuttle (Le passeur) which will take you to Socoa: a very pleasant way to cross the bay! You can also admire the coast by embarking at the port for sea trips or fishing trips.
The apartment is equipped with: induction hob, fridge and freezer, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, iron, washing machine and tumble dryer. Beach games and trolley on wheels (to go shopping!) are stored in the cellar.

- "The apartment is clean and bright, excellent lighting (dining room, kitchen, over beds, at sofa), kitchen was well equiped with plenty of dishes, heavy pans, some condiments, frig/freezer. It was totally quiet-- no street noise at night, only the sound of the ocean and the church bells. The promenade was just around the corner and up the stairs. Madam Bajenoff, although she is not on-site, always responded immediately and effectively."

The guy who met us at the villa said it’s 3 pm. Really frustrating as we had travelled 300 miles from Spain to this location and then had to kill 3 hours before the stated 6 pm check in. Sort this out please. We were told on arrival that we had been upgraded. In fact what it appeared to be was the guy was consolidating us and others into the villas. The room was a bit small and situated on the side of the building. The promised sea view was if you opened the window stuck your head out and craned your neck to the left. There are definitely not enough restaurants in the area and despite trying to book somewhere it was futile and ended up going to a fast food outlet. My wife and I were sat in the lounge drinking some wine , when the guy appears through a side door which I thought was locked and proceeds to lay the coming breakfast up all the time with his phone on a full volume chat show he didn’t want to miss. No apology to us didn’t even consider his rudeness. There is no air conditioning in the rooms just a noisy fan . Got into bed and above our heads it looked like the ceiling was about to drop on our heads . They have had major water ingress from the roof. But not repaired . For a £160 it was not worth the hassle This was the wrong kind of surprise for my wife"
