My reasoning for rating it 4 stars was that the exhaust fans in the bathrooms did not work, making it quite humid and steamy after showering. This added to the warmth of the home when opening the bathroom doors. The home was quite warm and didn't appear to have any AC (no thermostat to be found). The bedrooms were very warm even with windows open and fans on. I don't know if it was unseasonably warm weather for this time of year in the area, but it was a bit uncomfortable getting to sleep. Overall our stay was enjoyable and the home was as pictured in the photos. The exercise room was definitely a plus for our active people. Would recommend. "

- "I really hit the jackpot when I selected this property. I was greeted and warmly welcomed at the door by host Rena who showed me around. Her motherly spirit was evident in the care she put into the unit. From extra towels, to water and orange juice in the fridge and cookies, apples, and flowers on the dining table. The bed was wonderfully comfy with extra blankets available in the closet. As a single female I also appreciated the very bright automatic light that comes on as you approach the door after dark. The construction of this unit was clearly a previous part of the family home that had been sectioned off with a wall to create a self-contained separate external locked-door-accessible apartment. Homey wooden floors, an immaculately clean bathroom stocked with all the amenities of a better hotel, a dining table with two chairs, a fridge, a microwave, a toaster, and an electric kettle were all included. I work in real estate in Tokyo and we call this a "grandmother's apartment" because often an extended family here has a separate attached residence for grandma as part of their home. The neighborhood is best described as upscale and is a network of wide tree-lined streets of family home after family home. Very safe and easy to walk, with lots of free street parking available too. - "Ron is an amazing artist and a genuinely sweet human. It's quite an experience staying in his museum and something you'll never forget. Only complaint is that it was pretty cold. Other than that, highly recommended!" - "This is a very unique property. The owner, Ron's, creations are displayed throughout the property. Ron is very nice, easy going, & check in/out was a breeze. With his creations utilizing a lot of electricity, the rooms were humid, but he does provide fans. I like it cooler so it was a little difficult to sleep, but personal preference. He also puts clean towels, toiletries, & snacks in each room. Providing the following info for a more informed stay: If you have arachnophobia, this may not be the place for you. There were quite a few webs & daddy long legs about as well as fruit flies. Nothing too intense. A little dusty. It can be difficult to dust through everything. If you use ambulatory aids, such as wheelchairs or walkers, this may not be the place for you. It seems busy & a little cluttered but he does provide a zen room that is more undersated. It is an older house & very much lived in, shared spaces with the owner (kitchen, bathroom). The outdoor coverage with the curtains allowed for nice, dark rooms, even when the sun is out. The living room was converted to another type of 'bedroom.' A bonus for a larger party, a minus if you're wanting to just chill in the living room without having to stare at people that might be utilizing the beds. Although we ended up not needing to, he said going in & out from the property would not be a problem. Parking on property was a definite plus. My family lives in LA so I was able to leave my car on property while I rode with them. "

The space
This guest house is connected to the host’s main house and located downstairs with your own separate and private entrance (last renovated August 2024). A large foyer with mini library and day lounger (converts to twin bed) greets you as you first step inside, leading you into the living room with adjoining breakfast nook facing the main windows. The kitchen is full sized with electric four burner stove top oven, a full sized refrigerator, dual sinks, all the kitchen utensils and kitchenware that you'll need, and plenty of counter space. The spacious main bedroom features a large bathroom suite complete with its own powder room. The second bedroom has its own walk-in closet and private lavatory.
PLEASE NOTE: We welcome you to our guest house and hope you'll feel at home here. While our house cleaning service strives for hotel levels of cleaning and disinfecting, we are a private family home and cannot provide all the services of a hotel.

Entrance to apartment is through your own dedicated garage door (also suitable for parking several motorcycles securely). Must climb up a short internal staircase. Guests have a dedicated driveway parking space. If additional parking is needed, there is ample street parking a few meters away. For guests on longer stays or travel schedules, complimentary laundry facilities are in the adjoining room (please ask host for access code).

Important to note:
- Please note that the 2nd bedroom is located downstairs adjacent to our home gym. On certain mornings, you may hear light thumping. Most guests don't even notice it, but light sleepers should avoid the 2nd bedroom.
- The space can sleep a maximum of 6 people, though We do not recommend more than 5 adults for ideal sleeping conditions. This means that each bedroom sleeps 2 adults comfortably. We have added a day lounger that converts to a twin bed in the library/foyer which can sleep up to 2 CHILDREN (or 1 adult).

- We provide complimentary breakfast pastries. Usually for the first morning, but sometimes more depending on the length of the stay.
- Our fully stocked kitchen which enables many guests to prepare and cook a full dinner from scratch for family and friends.
- Guests with children have commented how much they appreciate the box of toys we've left for their enjoyment. For the more adventurous children, we have a scavenger hunt inside the unit to locate a secret compartment filled with toys and games!
- Guests have access to 2 adult recreational bicycles, and 2 child bicycles, helmets, trunk mounted bicycle carrier, and a lock. *Guests assume liability of injuries as a result of bicycling activities.

Walk to many hiking trails, parks and even 1 of LA's top restaurants is at the bottom of our driveway (The Saddle Peak Lodge). The Malibu Retreat is located in between Malibu's world famous beaches and celebs newest favorite town of Calabasas.

We're about 40 minutes from LAX airport, 20 minutes from Santa Monica, a few minutes from Malibu Beach & Calabasas and less than 1 hour from Santa Monica and Ojai.

We definitely suggest you have a car, however Uber is available if you don't. We can arrange for airport pick up & drop off for you - as well as guided tours & adventures. You can walk to mountain trials as well as the infamous Saddle Peak Lodge restaurant which is at the end of our driveway.

A Direct lease with owner & security deposit is required for this booking. Customization is possible based on guests needs. Parties, professional uses & heating of pool or jacuzzi have extra costs & fees. Pets need advance approval & deposits

Great location, close to shopping centers, Entertainment, malls, and hiking trails. This 3 Bedroom 2 Bathroom home is set on a quiet, tree-lined street in a beautiful neighborhood! Rooms are spacious and have an organized closets. The house has Washer and dryer. The kitchen is spacious and has new appliances and lots of natural light! There is a sliding door that opens from the kitchen to the backyard which features a generously sized covered entertaining area that will allow you to unwind and relax!

If you are coming in from out of state, then I recommend flying into Burbank Airport - It's 30 minutes from the house.

***One important thing:
This is a no alcohol/drinking house.

IT'S NOT a halfway house or sober house; we just have a no-drinking/no-alcohol-allowed on the property policy because it eliminates issues before they begin.

ONCE A MONTH, we MAY have a get-together or holiday party where drinking is allowed but other than that, no alcohol is allowed here AT ALL... if this is an issue, please move along.***

The house is designed to be for people working towards their craft, studying, etc. and when alcohol is in the mix, things get out of hand, loud and messy.
So......... if the place isn't for you because of that, then I understand and lets part ways before we meet - no hard feelings!
