Enjoy all the comforts of home in this adorable quintessential 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin on Swanzey Lake. You will love sipping your morning coffee or an afternoon glass of wine on our screened in porch. Our kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker as well as a gas grill outside on the patio. Our outdoor shower is a refreshing treat. There is a gas fireplace in the living room, and we have also recently installed a mini split air conditioner/heater on both floors for those rare evenings that are a bit too warm or too cool.
We have a separate garage with a loft that can sleep people comfortably with its own brand new bathroom and air conditioning.
Our dock is a short walk across the street and there are two kayaks available for use.
Keene, NH is a 15-20 minute drive where you will find great restaurants, shopping, and movie theater.
Mount Monadnock is a short distance away for a great daytime hike.
You will not be disappointed.

Guests have access to outdoor yard space which includes a cement patio space and a gazebo, both with seating, It is an easy, flat, 10 to 15-minute walk to the local country store with deli, a bakery, 2 pizza shops, a farm to table restaurant, library, town historical museum, Post Office, and Dunkin's. Easy access to Rt 91, 5 & 10 and Rt 2. Eight min drive to Greenfield, 15 to Brattleboro, 20 to Northampton, 45 minutes to the five colleges in Amherst. Easy short drive to Northfield Mt Hermon, Stoneleigh Burnham, Deerfield Academy and Thomas Aquinas College. Close to VT and NH and 30-90 minutes to many ski slopes, including Mt. Snow and Berkshire East. Short drive to swimming holes, hiking, cross country skiing, skating rink, canoeing, white water rafting and zip lines. Of course you can also just hang around and relax.

This 1950's log cabin has been fully updated including a new kitchen, bathroom, pellet stove and modern style without losing its cozy charm. Enjoy sweeping views of Mount Monadnock with no visible neighbors while sitting around the fire pit until the stars fill the sky. Be warned, you might not want to leave.

The Adventure Cabin was built with logs cleared from the lot and pictures of the build process are hung above the writing desk. The original character of the logs, stone and pine boards is still apparent in the cabin, now accented with modern furniture and decor.

There is a wide selection of travel guides and maps to dream up your next adventure while you unwind at the cabin. Kick back and play cards or board games in the living room or retreat to the bedroom to watch Netflix. Hang around the fire pit and soak in the view.

Enter the cabin through the enclosed porch and you will instantly feel at home. Hang your coats on the back of the door, kick off your shoes and take a load off on the plush couch.

If you choose to eat inside instead of the front porch, you will still have mountain views from the dining table. Step down from the living room into the bedroom, furnished with a 10" thick memory foam queen mattress, built-in dressers, a lounge chair and more mountain views.

The kitchen has a new electric range and fridge with plenty of room to store your haul from the many nearby breweries, Whether you make your coffee with the coffee maker, Keurig or French press, you can enjoy it on the enclosed porch with views of Mount Monadnock.

Off the kitchen, you will find the second big bedroom complete with 10" thick memory foam queen mattress, two nightstands with lamps, a smart tv and a small sitting area with original mid-century modern furniture left at the cabin, refinished with new cushions.

Our washer and dryer is currently out of service.

While a pack 'n play, highchair and a selection of kid's books is provided for our guests traveling with small children, the cabin is not fully baby proofed.

Guest Access
You will have the entire cabin and surrounding 5 acres to yourself during your stay to relax in ultimate privacy. There is a punch code lock for easy self-check in.

Other Things to Note
Should you decide to leave the cabin, there is great hiking in the area. Check out our guidebook or AllTrails for more details. There are so many wonderful independent breweries in the area including Granite Roots just down the street.

There are exterior security cameras in-use for security, to monitor deliveries and maintenance and to make sure only registered guests are on the property.

Please keep in mind that this is a cabin. There is a good chance you will find things like mud, bugs and animals around the property.

The Neighborhood
Fitzwilliam is a charming historic New England town with numerous ponds for the angler and breweries for the beer enthusiast. The Adventure Cabin is 10 minutes away from Franklin Pierce University in Rindge and 15 minutes away from Keene State College in Keene. The cabin is. 10 minutes from Mount Monadnock for the adventure hiker or 10 minutes in the other direction to Rhododendron State Parks if you prefer casual walks in the woods, There are 8 small batch breweries within 20 minutes of the cabin.

Fitzwilliam is only 2 hours from Boston and 40 minutes east of Brattleboro, Vermont. The driveway has plenty of room for 2 or 3 cars.

The home itself is impeccably furnished and outfitted to a degree that is far more comfortable than a typical lake side camp.

The house was totally renovated in 2019 designed as an open-concept kitchen/ dining/ living room with sliding glass doors opening to a spacious deck (30’ x 10’), while overlooking Spofford Lake a few steps away.

The master bedroom has a private bath, spacious closet, and a wall of large windows facing the lakefront.

In terms of location, Spofford Lake is a 2 hour drive from Boston, and less than 4 hour drive from New York City.

Spofford is half-way between Keene, NH and Brattleboro, VT where there are many local restaurants, stores, brew pubs, hiking and biking trails, ski resorts, wineries, co-ops, and attractions for everyone within a few minute drive.

Then again, there’s little need to leave the property for anything, so you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life to enjoy a wonderful Spofford Lake vacation.

From the moment you arrive at this two-bedroom one-and-a-half bath lakeside cottage, you’ll feel how special it is, as it sits on the south shore of lovely Moores Pond, facing a spectacular view of Mt. Grace. Welcome to Corkscrew Cottage!
Small private cottages line the thirty acres of clear water that afford swimming, fishing, boating, and kayaking. The signature spiral stairs connect the first floor full kitchen, living area, bedroom, and bath with the bedroom, loft, and half-bath.
Use Corkscrew's swimming area and dock, or make new friends at the public Town Beach 100 yds down the road. Use Corkscrew's rowboat and kayaks or launch your own boat at the public boat launch. Explore the large wetland on the north end on a summer evening, viewing the beaver lodges and carnivorous plants. Ice skate in winter or go ice fishing. The pond has a variety of fish including trout, bass, pickerel, perch, and pan fish, and is also home to colorful waterfowl, turtles, frogs, otters, beaver, deer, and the occasional moose. Hike the Old Stagecoach Road through the state forest to the quaint, historic Warwick Town Center. Bike the scenic Franklin County roads. After sundown, the frog symphony begins at the Pond and the wide-open night sky delights any stargazer.
Corkscrew is by no means isolated, but the pond and neighborhood are serene and quiet.
Follow the brick walkway from your own driveway to the cottage door. Step into a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen that is flooded with warm tones of sunshine streaming through the stained-glass Corkscrew window.
The knotty pine walls and open ceilings continue into the living area, where you will notice a cozy gas stove fireplace, a media center, and the signature spiral staircase* that gives our cottage its name. You are drawn into the attached enclosed porch sitting area, with its 180-degree view of the pond, where you can enjoy the ever-changing views of Mt. Grace. Take an afternoon nap on the couch. Read by the fireplace.
Cool off under the porch ceiling fan or by the A/C unit. Gather around the game table. A porch door leads out to the deck, dock, and boat.
The primary bedroom is off the living area. Two bedroom areas are up the spiral staircase, with three single beds and a half bath.
Outdoor eating and lounging decks are on both sides of Corkscrew Cottage, including a gas grill near the kitchen.
Fishing gear is provided in the basement, along with floaties. (Fishing for those over 15 requires a Massachusetts fishing license, available online).
*Caution: Spiral staircases can be tricky. Always walk on the outside, larger part of the tread, step slowly, and hold on to the rail. Please use caution if your family includes the elderly or very young. We provide a children's gate to block the top of the stairs and a fence to go around the bottom.

Forest Lake
Forrest Lake is a public Lake, that the general public can and does use. There are other homes on the pond that people do use and enjoy. Forest Lake is in a nature area and insects, bugs, ants, and small animals including mice are all around and may enter the house. Please let me know if there is a problem so that I can try and fix it.

Extra Guests
There is an additional guest fee of $75 per person over the first two.

Cleaning Fees
Please understand that I believe in paying a living wage and fairly compensating my team. The team works hard to provide our guests with a clean and covid safe space to stay in.

Pets/Animals/Companion Animals
Well behaved pets are welcome, but we do ask that you include the pet fee in your stay.

Pets are not to be left unattended in the space unless placed in a guest provided crate or something similar. Guests are also asked to bring coverings for our furniture to keep pet dander off of our soft goods, bedding and furniture.

Our properties do not have fences. Please keep your dog leashed at all times during your stay.

Because all of our spaces are pet friendly we suggest you take that into consideration before booking if you have sensitivity toward household pets.

Please pick up any animal waste and use poop bags with the regular trash.

Fire Extinguisher
The fire extinguisher is for emergencies only, if you are putting out a fire in your fire pit please use water from the pond or the hose at the side of the house. A replacement fee of $50 will be charged if the fire extinguisher is used in non-emergency situations.

Essential Oils
Please do not use of essential oils, candles, fireworks, or outdoor torches (i.e. tiki torches)

Garbage
During your stay and when you check out, put your filled garbage bags into the the trash barrels outside.

Blankets
Blankets found in the house must remain in the house, if you bring any quilt, sheet, linen, etc. outside and the item is damaged you will be charged the replacement value.

Keys
Keys to the chalet can be found in the lock boxes adjacent to the entryway. The key should be returned to the lock box every time you use it, do not take the keys off the property. If a key is lost during your stay you will be charged $50.

Please let us know upon your departure if you have gone through all the cooking oil, salt, pepper, coffee, etc. It helps us maintain good service to all of our guests!

Water Usage
Our cabins are water front and we have a shared responsibility to the environment to use and conserve water. Please take short showers and conserve on toilet flushes. When cleaning or doing dishes use water conservation methods, please. The beavers and wildlife thank you.

Grill
If there is a grill onsite please familiarize yourself with it before use and exercise caution at all times.

For stays longer then five days, guest will be expected to supply their own toilet paper, tissues, soap, shampoo, coffee, spices etc.

Checkout
Checkout is at 10AM. Unplanned late checkouts are not permissible, for each hour you remain on the property after the 11AM checkout time you will be charged $25. Feel free to pile used towels and linens on the floor so they can be easily identified and picked up and leave beds unmade.

The Higgle House is the guest house on Sweetwater Farm. Located in the quaint Cheshire County countryside. It is constructed from salvaged everything. Built from a centuries old barn and turkey coop- the house features original barn boards and lots of old metal roofing. It has a Kitchenette with a small fridge, microwave and countertop cook top(hot plate) and toaster oven with a 3/4 Bath.

The space
The front section of the Higgle was built from an old turkey coop. The middle, living room are made from a colonial era recycled barn. Up stairs is a bedroom with shelving and work space.

Guest access
Guests have the entire house and feel free to walk and enjoy our 50 acres of private land.

Other things to note
This home is in a forest, next to a state park, and critters of all types from rodents and insects to bears and foxes do visit the property regularly, because they live here too. Mice and ants can and do enter the cottage.

Driveway: We have a long, unpaved driveway. SUV's generally have no problem, but cars may struggle from time to time do to weather conditions-mud/snow/ice

Early/Late Check In/Out are available depending on our cleaning schedule. There is a $25 additional fee if possible.

Enjoy the simple things in life! This rustic cottage is ideal for those who want to unplug and go back to basics. This cottage has been my family’s retreat for generations. Cottage does not have air conditioning or heat and is meant for summer use. There are wall and ceiling fans throughout the cottage. Lake access is only separated by a dirt road. No cable TV or Internet; cell phone service is good. Feel free to make use of the board games and DVD library.

The space
Cottage is rustic and meant for seasonal use. It is comfortable, but not an upscale experience.

Cottage was recently renovated and has new electric, plumbing and roof. There is a standing shower, washer and dryer, one queen size bed, and a twin bunk bed. There is also a queen-size electric air mattress available for use. Linens, blankets, and additional pillows are located in the blue boxes underneath the electric air mattress. Linens and dishes, pots, pans are available for use. The fireplace is not functioning and the chimney is sealed. It is not to be used. There is a small electric heater in front of the fireplace that can be used if needed.

There is a television and a DVD player as well as a small library of DVDs. It is basic but functions.

Lake access is directly across from from the bottom of the stairs of the deck. It is a short path down a slope leading to the beach and float.

The cottage facing the beach has a path to the left that is private. Please do not use that path.

The fire pit, the hammock, and any boats docked at the beach are not to be used. They are privately owned. Please be mindful of noise levels for the local residents.

Guest access
The entire house is available for use. The barn and the storage areas under the house are restricted. Parking is available for up to two vehicles on the side of the house next to the sliding glass door.

The cottage facing the beach has a path to the left that is private. Please do not use that path.

The fire pit, the hammock, and any boats docked at the beach are not to be used. They are privately owned. Please be mindful of noise levels for the local residents.

Other things to note
Before your departure, please strip the linens and towels and place them in the provided laundry basket for the cleaning person to wash. There is a washer and dryer available with soap if you would like to use it.

Please wash the dishes and either put them away or leave them in the drying rack . Trash can be left in the receptacles provided and will be disposed of. Please do not put the trash outside as it will attract wildlife.

Two years ago our dam broke, construction is complete and Forest Lake is back in action. Forest Lake is a public Lake, that the general public can and does use. There are other homes on the pond that people do use and enjoy. Forest Lake is in a nature area and insects, bugs, ants, and small animals including mice are all around and may enter the house. Please let me know if there is a problem so that I can try and fix it.

Guest agrees and understands that water and lake activities such as swimming, wading, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hydro-biking, or stand-up paddle boarding (collectively, “Activity”) can be can be hazardous and can involve the risk of physical injury and/or death. Guest further acknowledges and understands that the risks identified above are not comprehensive, and that participating in the Activity, whether or not described, may be dangerous and may also include risks which are inherent and/or which cannot be reasonably avoided. By entering the water, Guest recognizes that personal injury, serious injury, death, and property loss are all possible while participating in the Activity. Boats EFFECTIVE JUNE 2025
Our insurance companies have required us to remove boats from our properties. If you plan on engaging in water recreation please bring your own boat and life jacket. Over the coming weeks/month we will be removing all remaining boats, ors, and life vests from our Stays. We share in the disappointment of this new circumstance, however this was the only way to keep our stays affordable for our customers.

Parking: This unit comes with one parking space. We can provide more parking on a limited basis. Please let me know in advance if you will need a space for anther car. Extra parking spaces are an additional $25 per day.

Our stairs down to the water are old but functional. Use care when using them.

The space
This space has two stories, with the bedroom and bathroom on the second floor, conveniently located right in downtown Winchester, NH. We are nearby Pisgah State Forest, the Ashuelot Rail Trail, Mount Monadnock State Park and Mount Wantastiquet near Brattleboro. There is a convenience store next door and a park across the street, as well as a dog park within walking distance.

We have tried to provide for all of your potential needs, but if there is anything missing, please let us know so we can make sure your time with us is pleasant and stress free. Because this loft is downtown, there will be traffic and other street noise that guests should be aware of!

Pets

Please cover our furniture with a guest provided blanket to prevent allergen/fur build up. There is a $25/stay fee for all pets. Exterior is due for some freshening up and that is on the agenda over time so stay tuned! Started with the interior to make ready for guests. This property is located right at the intersection of Rts 10 & 119 so you can hear the cars going by- especially with windows open and at certain times of day. There is a white noise machine in the bedroom to minimize the sound for more sensitive sleepers.

Some guests have described our place as a little piece of heaven. It's quiet and relaxing and sometimes seems like a bird sanctuary. You might even see the bald eagle that fishes for his meals at the lake. We have seen beavers, loons, Canadian geese, wild turkeys, deer and beautiful foxes.
