It's not very big, but more than adequate for the four of us driving around Ireland. We liked that it was a townhouse and not a hotel. There was a slight problem with communication because the owner sent instructions via Travelocity/Expedia and the message wasn't delivered. So, we called and he sent it again. But he was also very helpful on the phone and gave us instructions on how to open the lock box and retrieve the front door key. Because the townhouse is in a residential area, there are no pubs, bars, or restaurants nearby. We had to drive to Ennis "downtown" to get dinner. Also, be aware that your GPS may lead you astray, as it did us. We ended up at the train station, which has a similar address. Luckily, the townhouse is only about a half mile from the train station. Overall, we enjoyed our one night stay."

Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with antique pine furniture. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have twin beds. The master bath has a bathtub and shower. The house has wireless access.

The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. A round tower built c.1350, Doonagore Castle was entirely restored in 1975.

The cottage is surrounded by grazing cattle, lending another level of tranquility to the idyllic setting.

A circular driveway brings guests close to the front door, should there ever be inclement weather! We joke that our favorite occupation is sitting in the conservatory and watching the weather change.

When the cottage was being built, one of the builders suggested naming the cottage. He said we should name it Draiocht, which means a magical place, and it is.

Sycamore House is situated in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan in the heart of the Burren National Park, a karst limestone region, one of the largest in Europe where you will find arctic, Mediterranean and alpine plants side by side. From the front of the house you can see the rolling hills of the Burren, its limestone pavements with crisscrossing cracks known as 'grikes' leaving isolated rocks called 'glints'. The rear of the house is mostly glazed to take in the views of Ballyvaughan harbour and across Galway Bay and the mountains of Connemara.

With its large gently sloping lawn fronting onto the shoreline, a pathway from the house along by an old stone wall leads to flag stone steps onto the sea shore. There is also a secluded seating area with polished limestone table at the end of this pathway where one can relax and watch the ever changing seascape as the tides go in and out. The house has been designed to optimize the views. From the moment you enter the house you have views of Galway Bay. The sunken open plan kitchen-dining area is the heart of the house and boasts a glass wall 24'long by 12' high. The house is centrally heated throughout and for added comfort there is a solid fuel stove in this area which gives a warm cozy feeling when temperatures outside start to drop. Total floor space in the house is 3200 sq ft so space is generous in every room. All five bedrooms are ensuite and we pride ourselves on the quality of our beds and linen. Between them there are four queen sized beds and three single beds and the master bedroom which stands alone on the upper level has an extra sofa bed which is mostly used for relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book while also gazing out to sea.

Ballyvaughan village regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Burren region has a choice of good restaurants, craft shops and local shops. It is the ideal base to explore the rich heritage of the Burren and surrounding areas. The famous Burren Way (26 miles of green road) starts in Ballyvaughan, goes to Fanore, Doolin and ends in Liscannor taking in the Cliffs of Moher.

For the golfers, the famous links course at Lahinch is only a thirty minute drive from the house and further down the Clare coast is the Greg Norman designed Doonbeg course. There is also a choice of less well known courses such as Gort and Ennis.

Close to the house the unspoiled beaches of Bishops Quarter and Fanore invite you to swim ,kayak and surf. The sheltered Ballyvaughan Bay is suitable for all kinds of water activities. Try a swim in the sea or learn to dive with the Burren Adventure Dive Centre.

Finally when it is time to relax the living room beckons to put your feet up, with its plush leather sofas and soft furnishings and to add to the atmosphere on those cooler nights why not start a fire in the large open fireplace made from polished Burren stone. The house is an architect designed high quality detached home - set on 1.5 acres , with views over Lough Derg and the Tipperary Hills. It is a warm home - timber-framed with zoned central heating and wood-burning stoves. The ceilings are higher than standard, giving a bright airy feel to the home. A large kitchen/living-room/dining-room is at the centre of this home, with a southerly aspect, and magnificent views of the lake. This space has a sound system with built-in speakers . A three-metre square roof window makes this a particularly bright space. The room is adjoined by a living-room with TV - which also has a wood-burning stove.

Bedrooms 1 and 2 are at the west of the property, and enjoy en-suite facilities and patios.

A family suite ( sleeps 4 ) is located within the Diner area of the house, loved by families with younger guests. This area has a Diner style living area with a bar.

Outside, there are extensive patio and decked areas - ideal for lounging or dining al fresco. Children love to play in the huge garden, which also has a greenhouse with herbs that guests are welcome to use.

The East Clare way walking route ( easy to moderate) passes by, and the area is a particularly restful place, with forests, bog-land walks and beautiful unspoiled views over the mountains and lake. Attractions include Holy Island - accessible by a short boat trip available from the harbour - it is one of the earliest Monastic settlements in Ireland (500AD). There is a great park with children's playground and adult gym equipment, a maze, and at the harbour there is an Eagle viewing station.

There are restaurants and local pubs full of atmosphere and charm.

The house is beautiful, spacious, bright and very well designed. We took one day just to stay in the local area and enjoy the house. The location is right next to Lough Derg and there are lots of interesting places to visit nearby and also it is within driving distance of the Cliffs of Moher. We spent over two weeks in Ireland and Jim’s house in Mountshannon was our last stop and definitely the highlight."

A friendly, stylish space—a little sanctuary for travellers, wildlife, artists, surfers or yogis. There's a beautiful garden and small woodland with the sound of the stream that runs behind the house. It's a short walk into Ennistymon by road, or a little longer if you take the lovely path through the woods. Charming in every way. 7 mins to Lahinch. 15 mins to the Cliffs of Moher by car.
