- "I have mixed feelings about this stay. It is hard not to compare it to other cottages I've stayed in while in Ireland at the same price point. Where there is a basic welcoming basket with bread, eggs, salt and pepper. There is nothing of the sort here. There were a lot of rules posted around that seemed a bit much compared to the condition of the cottage. The beds were not comfortable, but the bedding looked newer. There was an electric carving knife, but no hair dryer. There is no dishwasher, but there was a washer/dryer combo. The drying rack upstairs was broken, but there was a clothes line outside. The patio chair was broken, but the picnic table was nice to sit at. The weather was wonderful during our stay. The couch just needs to be replaced. The coverings they had on it didn't stay in place and was also stained. The fireplace was nice and we had a cozy fire one evening when it rained. The communication via texting was great and offered clarification on the information posted. It seems to be outdated. It was also nice to have someone to contact for questions on the area as this was my first time staying in this part of the country. The condition of the property is sorely in need of some attention. If you are wanting something more refined, you may not be happy here. If you can live a few days with a worn, outdated property, you might just love the peacefulness from sitting outside listening to the birds."

- "Easily the worst overnight stay I have encountered anywhere in my travels. We had no working water heater the first 24 hours so none of us could shower. The floors were sticky. We killed two sizeable spiders in the unit. The whole place smelled like chemicals but I couldn’t quite place what they were. Every shower had mold and mildew (and gross amounts of caulking) and mine included a sliver of dried bar soap complete with black speck inside the soap dish. The pillows were the kind you might find at a discount store and I could feel the springs poking my body from inside the mattress. The kitchen stove, oven and range hood were very dirty. Let’s add peeling paint everywhere, poorly done repairs, worn bath towels and a dead rat in the parking lot to our list. I have more photos than there is room to post. "

Kilbaha cottage is uniquely perched on one end of Kilbaha Bay in Loop Head, with panoramic views over the Atlantic and the ships and fishing boats that pass it's door. Set in ten acres just off the Wild Atlantic Way, it has a rocky cove on the shore and endless scope for exploration, be it with bucket and spade or binoculars.
Loop Head is still a well kept secret and visitors find it unspoilt and deserving of it's many awards. A recent one being the European Destination of Excellence.
The house has recently had an extensive refit, which kept all that makes it special, but adding a wet room, wood burning stove and a new shower area near the sauna.
The three bedrooms are double with the master suite having it's own bathroom.
A separate loft room over the kitchen is a quiet space to read or watch a movie and usually a gathering place for the children.
While there is a wonderful sense of remoteness in Loop Head you are never far from a great meal or a small harbour to pick up your lobster and crab for dinner.
You can see the lobster pots being emptied outside the house by the local fishermen, and drive to the harbour to get the freshest catch imaginable.

Located in a cul-de-sac of five houses, traffic is at a minimum and the only sounds being heard are the soft mooing of cows in the adjoining fields and the breaking of Atlantic waves on the shore below.

The views from the house are spectacular, sea and sky, with amazing sunsets over the Aran Islands and Galway Bay.

The house is a stylish cottage conversion designed by the owner, a well- known interior designer, whose family have long established roots in Co.Clare.

The theme of the interior is in keeping with the landscape, reflecting the colours from the rural setting outside. Soft off white walls with oak floors throughout the house creates an atmosphere of relaxed contemporary living.

Over 2800 square feet in size, on three quarters of an acre of manicured gardens, the house amply caters for seven people, both in space and luxury.

It comprises of four large double bedrooms, two of which are on the ground floor with views to the sea. Both have ensuite bathrooms, beautifully appointed with stone tiling and mirrored walls to reflect light. One of the ensuites is a "wet room" suitable for the elderly or those with limited mobility.

Situated on the outskirts of Mountshannon, you do need transport, but with car in hand you will be able to visit the highlights of the region. just bare in mind local 'R' roads can be narrow with high hedges, and meeting commercial traffic might test your nerves. However, think cautiously, drive slowly and all will be well. The nearby Lough is very picturesque, and you can walk to a small port where the view is across to Holy Island. We had one mishap, while enjoying the the best of Irish hospitality, but we all caught Covid.... The Hazel, a luxury holiday home spanning approx. 2196 sq feet (205 sq metres) was originally the cow shed! This is no ordinary room in a house. Apart from your private double room with a stove and complimentary firewood + organic tea and locally roasted coffee, you also have full access to the cosiest of cosy shared Hearth of the house and use of the kitchen. With the utmost attention to detail, as one guest described it; "everything here is art" this is a truly unique stay. As many guests mention, it's one of the best airbnb's they've stayed in.

Furthermore, there is a beautiful and wild shared back garden with stunning views down the valley and all the way to Galway Bay and the Connemara mountains on a clear day. Walking trails can start outside Hanne's Cottage and Fanore Beach is only within 7 min drive. The iconic Cliff's of Moher 30 min drive.

The 1 acre of land that belongs to Hanne's Cottage is an ever unfolding ARK = Act of Restorative Kindness towards the Earth and is cared for as a wildlife sanctuary.

A car is essential as Hanne's Cottage is in a rural valley in the Burren mountains, with a 5km stretch of narrow backroad leading down to it and no public transport available.

If the latter is an issue, this peaceful and beautiful sanctuary for humans and animals alike might not be for you.

The Hearth of the house is shared with Hanne, the fluffy feline Her Ladyship and any potential other guests (max 2)

Hanne is working from home as an artist and will at times need this space for her artwork.

A cosy self contained cottage for 2 in a rural, picturesque off road setting with gorgeous Burren views. Easy access to all the Burren's attractions as well as Galway, Shannon and Limerick. Close to the sea and local beaches, Aillwee Caves, Cliffs of Moher, Burren Perfumery and Chocolatier. The cottage is within our family property opposite our own house. We keep bees which are located about 100m from the cottage. There is parking outside the house for our guests.

Welcome to Shannonside, our family cottage on The Wild Atlantic Way. Situated in Doonaha, as quiet a spot as you can imagine. On Sundays you might hear the sound of church bells, shouts from The GAA Field or Vincent dropping by to care for the lawn, but that's about it. The magnificient views across our garden and meadow look out across the Shannon to Kerry. Quarter of an acre, mostly wild meadow plus orchard and garden areas .

The space
Loop Head has been named by the Irish Times as the best place to holiday in Ireland. The local beach Glasheen is secluded, don't expect a beach bar, deck chair hire or even an ice cream van. Use the picnic blanket from the cupboard and, if you get there early, you might be the only one there. Full ameneties can be found a 15 minute drive away at the bustling seaside town of Kilkee.
The original cottage was very traditional with thick walls. Additions over the years have made a more spacious, user friendly home, but with history at its heart. The history is important to us, we have integrated old pressed glass lampshades and inherited pieces into the decor. In terms of modern, well it's this: we have an electric oven (next to the traditional peat fired Stanley Range), fridge/freezers, dish washer, washing machine, microwave and a Cuisinart slow cooker. You will find beds made up, with towels and guest toiletries also provided.
We have purposely fashioned this as our get away from it all retreat, there's no tv, no wifi (ok confession - we hotspot for a bit of Netflix or to catch up on emails). There are plenty of things to do on your visit; the local village of Carrigaholt is notable for restuarants and pubs as well as its Dolphin Watch. Please note that there is no pub, bar or shop in immediate walking distance. Kilrush is great for shopping or a daytrip to the enchanting deserted island of Scattery which is a short boat ride away. The walled Vandeleur Gardens are also in Kilrush, along with the museum of Irish Rural Life, fancy Doonbeg golf course is a short drive, whilst further afield is the Historic City of Limerick, The Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Galway Bay etc. But what are you doing driving? Enjoy the calm.

Just over one hour's drive from Shannon airport.
Parking beside the cottage - space for up to three cars within grounds.
Access to shed, containing basic garden furniture and four bikes (use at own risk, maintenance not guaranteed).
Metal fire pit also in the shed - feel free to use (outside only).
Gated grounds, not completely fenced as many boundaries are hedged.
A basket of turf is provided for the stanley range in the kitchen and there is central heating.
The cupboard beside the back door contains a picnic set and games (boules, beach bats, badminton), feel free to use these too.
All linens and towels provided. Please bring your own beach towels.

We think of 'Shannonside' as a much loved family retreat - and hope that you feel the same; you could write that novel, practise your yoga (there are mats in the press (cupboard), walk along The Wild Atlantic Way, take the weight off your feet in the garden and take in the beautiful air and the peace and quiet.
