Many attractions are within easy reach from your private preserve at Bell. The historic mining town of Lithgow (20mins) is a short drive along the famed Bells Line of Road. There you may enjoy a meal from the many quaint eating establishments or purchase supplies from big box stores or more artisan oriented grocers.

Mount Victoria (9mins) is an easy drive away along the Darling Causway from which views into Hartley Vale may be glimpsed. At Mount Victoria several eateries such as the historic Mt Vic hotel may provide an evening meal. Another attraction is Mount Vic Flicks an iconic and popular feature of the upper Mountains. Providing a well stocked candy bar, hot soups, home-baked treats and hot drinks.

For the more adventurous iconic Mount Piddington (11mins) overlooking the beautiful Kanimbla Valley provides famed rock-climbing escarpments. Several bush-walking tracks descend the cliffs from Hornes Point and Fairy Bower reserve.

The original track through the mountains descends through the historic town of Hartley Vale established 1814/15 (8mins). Here you will find a pretty, tranquil village atmosphere stepped back in time. Nestled within the valley is the beautifully restored Comet Inn where a roast dinner by coal fired hearths may be relished. Memories of a bygone age when coal was the mainstay of the region. Today resident kangaroos bound across this secluded valley as you bring your gaze to the bluffs surrounding the vale.

The spectacular Jenolan Caves speak for themselves - a national treasure. An easy drive (under an hour) through undulating scenic grazing and pastureland. The oldest cave system in the world provides magical tours within and extensive trails and wildlife without.

Another short drive (15mins) away is the picturesque gardener's delight of Mt Wilson. Here stony impoverished earth gives way to rich volcanic soils. Towering trees canopying tree ferns line the drive up reminiscent of NZ's South Island. Springing forth is a small enclave of beautiful private gardens that may be open to the public depending on season. The old Turkish Baths may also appeal to the history buffs surrounded by bucolic scenes replete with grazing cattle.

The famed Mount Tomah Botanical Gardens (21mins from Mt. Wilson) offer another cool climate garden with spectacular valley views to investigate leisurely. From there a hop, skip and a jump is the peaceful Bilpin district famed for it's apples, walnuts, chestnuts, figs and other fresh produce (seasonal). Delicious pies are available by the roadside at Pie in the Sky.

The residence at Bell provides easy access to all these attractions and much more. Slightly beyond is Australia's Grand Canyon - Capertree Valley.

Newnes in the Wolgan Valley (just over an hour away within the Wollemi National Park) showcase glorious glow-worms in an old railway tunnel bored in 1907. Slightly off the beaten track but certainly well worth the visit.

On the other better trodden path of the Great Western Highway is the township of Blackheath (17mins). Home of the Rhododendron Festival and more cool climate gardens open to the public depending on season. The awe inspiring views of the Grose Valley may be seen from lookouts at Govett's Leap and Evan's Lookout. Both provide sensational walks especially the Grand Canyon Walk from Evan's (2-3 hours return). If there were to be one walk during your stay this would be it. For the more intrepid, canyoning and rock-climbing are also available.

The impressive Campbell Rhododendron Gardens are found north-northeast of the town. Extensive (46 acres) gardens comprised of Rhododendrons and Azaleas beneath a canopy of native Australian bush make quite a contrast between local and imported flora.

Within this historic town can also be found antique stores, artisan bakers and grocers along with several restaurants.

Further back the icon of the Blue Mountains - the Three Sisters (Echo Point) at Katoomba with the Jamison Valley as a backdrop can be found. Here all manner of tourist activities are proffered such as the the Scenic Railway, Scenic Cableway and Skyway (glass bottomed floor). Numerous walks such as the famed Six Foot Track to Jenolan Caves also begin here as well as less intensive day hikes.

Cafes, restaurants abound as well as all manner of curiosity shops and big box stores. This is the most developed of the mountain villages.

Leura and Wentworth Falls lie just beyond lending many more opportunities to explore and relax over a meal or shopping adventure. Leura is famed for it's historic buildings and quaint main street - recognised as the prettiest of the Blue Mountain villages. Both these areas provide the full charm of the mountains in their older homes and lush gardens. Walks of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty bring the walker to scenic outlooks - so many to choose from!

However, Leura Cascades (easy walk) is a must see as is the Valley of the waters walk starting at the Conservation Hut at Wentworth Falls (more difficult).

Lastly, right from the back doorstep of your private retreat (just by the hanging swamp) is the Wollangambe Crater Walk. This is a serious hike that brings the walker to a pagoda-like rock formation on the opposite side of the valley. However, shorter day walks may also be undertaken to explore the Wollangambe Wilderness.

The house is in a central location and is very close to the swimming pool and sporting fields. The house is located just off the Main Street and is a 2 minute drive or a 10 minute walk to the supermarket and shops

We are located in the heart of town and close to all amenities, clubs and pubs. We are a short 6 minute walk to Lithgow Workies Club.

We love supporting our local businesses and located next door is El Latte Lithgow and diagonally across the road, to the right is Hometown Cafe, both serving amazing food and coffee.

Located at the back of the property, is free all day council parking. The parking is accessed via Whispering Lane way on the right hand side of the building.
The town has both Woolworths and Coles Supermarkets, within a short 4min drive. The train station is a 2 minute walk down the street.

The Apartments are fully serviced for any long stays, a cleaner will come in once a week to clean and replace linen.

Upon arrival, expect to be greeted with a set of double electric gates, through which awaits a majestic tree lined driveway that takes you to a pebbled garden entrance. Alternatively, follow the driveway to the right to reveal a full-size basketball system with uninterrupted lush greenery views.



The living, dining and kitchen is an open plan area with ample northern light. The dining table seats 12 people and the kitchen has all modern appliances including a dishwasher and a Nespresso coffee pod machine. The kitchen is well stocked with pantry items, you'll just need to bring the main ingredients for your meals with you.



There is clear separation between living and sleeping zones, with bedrooms located down a long hallway. There are 6 bedrooms, 4 of which has walk-in robes.



The Master bedroom has a king-sized bed, ensuite with large bathtub and heated floors, walk-in wardrobe, aircon and standing mirror. This room caters for up to 2 people only.



Bedroom 2 is an oversize bedroom with king-sized bed, wardrobe space, shared central aircon and standing mirror. Bedroom 2 uses the main bathroom which is shared with other bedrooms. This room caters for up to 2 people only.



Bedrooms 3-6 have queen-sized beds, wardrobe space, shared central aircon. They also use the main bathroom which is shared with other bedrooms. Each room caters for up to 2 people only.



Main bathroom comes with a freestanding bathtub and separate shower. There are two basins outside the bathroom which services Bedrooms 2-6. There is also a guest toilet in the laundry area.



There is a small studio/study room for anyone who would like to work in peace and quiet.

The property has undergone major updating of plumbing works with new lines having been dug through to the top paddock. To give the dirt areas time to reestablish grass please only drive and park on the driveway.

The property is fully fenced and electric gated. You will receive your entry instructions, including your PIN number for your stay for the digital front door,
in your “check in instructions” afew days prior to your arrival.

Please keep gates closed at all times unless you are travelling through them.
Locked sheds are not accessible.

We love supporting our local businesses and located next door is El Latte Lithgow and diagonally across the road, to the right is Hometown Cafe, both serving amazing food and coffee.

Located at the back of the property, is free all day council parking. The parking is accessed via Whispering Lane way on the right hand side of the building.

The town has both Woolworths and Coles Supermarkets, within a short 4min drive. The train station is a 2 minute walk down the street.

The Apartments are fully serviced for any long stays, a cleaner will come in once a week to clean and replace linen.

The 4 BR full brick Chalet has a fully equipped kitchen and 2 living areas. With a slow combustion and 2 open fireplaces, split system aircon in every BR, this is your cosy home away from home for family and friends to be refreshed together.

The space
Set on over 200 acres of undulating paddocks and mountains, enjoy total privacy and endless places to explore. Enter via a 650m dirt driveway that puts civilisation far behind you as you approach the undulating fields and mountainside leading up to the Chalet. Behind the house are multiple directions to walk the two mountains that surround the escarpment, and beautiful bushland of established native rainforest to explore. The trails behind the fences are protected areas of bushland which house some endangered species of purple butterflies and white flying possums. You may spot them if you're lucky! The whole property is open for walking and trail biking but in view of the beautiful habitat it is to the animals, tread lightly.

Be mindful that the bush and farmland comes with its ecosystem of animals, insects, sometimes sharp/prickly foliage. Get ready for an outdoor adventure! Please always wear enclosed shoes to keep you safe and comfy when bushwalking and exploring the wild and beautiful surrounds. We have resident ponies in the paddock behind the house that you can say hi to and hand feed grass from the gate. They are friendly but strictly not for riding!

The House:
All set on over 300sqm of split level living with high raked cedar ceilings and original brick features, the house overlooks multiple views of the surrounding mountainscape. The room configuration is as follows:

Plenty of chopping boards, knives and cutlery to enjoy your meals and the preparation of them!

Living spaces
The large living space is fully equipped with projector for plugging in your laptop to watch on 'big screen' on the white walls any of your TV content subscriptions! Simple instructions to connect up are on the premises. Free wifi of course.

The sunken lounge with its own open fireplace is set up for boardgames, good conversation and a bit of music if you're inclined to play the keyboard or bring along your own instruments. Beautiful views from every window.

The huge double garage has been renovated as a games room - whether the kids or adults get this is up to you! Complete with 7ft pool table, separate table tennis table, darts and Playstation 4 on a massive TV, this place keeps everyone happy and sane with even the largest, rowdiest group of kids and adults!

The main bathroom on the upper level is multi-functional with communal double vanity and to the right the bath, to the left the shower, each with its own bifold door. The WC is adjacent. The second bathroom with WC, shower and vanity is a small ensuite set opposite the Queen bedroom for easy access.

Top loader and dryer are available for use during your stay, washing powder complimentary.

Welcome to your peaceful haven in Clarence - perfect for relaxing getaways.

Located just a stone’s throw from the famous Zig Zag Railway, Fettlers’ Lodge is a charming 5-bedroom home situated on approximately 5 acres. A fusion of modern and upcycled décor, there is ample room to comfortably accommodate up to 9 adults.

At either end of the home is a spacious queen-sized bedroom with ensuite. There are two additional bedrooms - one with a skylight - with queen-sized beds, as well as a fifth bedroom with a single bed. All have luxurious mattresses, pillows and bedding. A pull-out trundle that rolls out neatly from beneath the single bed, as well as a porta cot, are available for a child and an infant.

There is an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area, a full-size spa-like bathroom with a shower and large bathtub, a dedicated workspace, and a laundry with washing machine and dryer. Shampoo, conditioner and bath gel are supplied, and there is a hair dryer in each bathroom.

Relax in front of the wood burning stove in the living room – perfect for those chilly evenings - or share good times and memories around the large farmhouse-style dining table.

Reverse-cycle air conditioning keeps the home comfortable year-round.

The fully-equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, oven, stove, slow cooker, espresso machine, coffee grinder, and 12-cup drip coffee maker.

Relax in the large entertaining area at the rear of the house, with plenty of space for family and friends to gather around the outdoor table. Toast marshmallows over the fire pit, or two can soak and luxuriate, with a glass of wine, in the double outdoor baths.

The towns and villages of the Blue Mountains are a short drive away.

Go for a bushwalk, watch the wildlife, or just relax.

Dress in layers - mornings and evenings can be quite cool. It occasionally snows in Clarence.

Always keep an eye out for wildlife when driving to and from Fettlers’ Lodge, especially at night.

Children are to be supervised at all times – a small pond at the front of the property can be a hazard to little ones after periods of rain.

House-trained and well-behaved pets are welcome - the property is fully fenced and there is a smaller fenced-off area to the side of the house. Pets are to be supervised at all times and are not to be left unattended at the property. They are not permitted on beds or on carpeted areas.

There is free wifi and a universal charger is available for various devices.

We do have a security system in place, facing the perimeter of the property only. The CCTV helps us secure our property between reservations when the home is vacant and in no way invades the privacy of our guests.

There is plenty of parking available at the front of the house - please do not drive on the grassed areas.

No loud parties, stag nights, or hens’ parties allowed.

Visitors who are not booked in are not permitted on the premises after 10 pm.

Rubbish is picked up on Monday mornings - please take bins out for collection if you are staying on a Sunday night.

Clarence is a quiet, residential, rural community that allows you to step away from the hustle and bustle into your own space, yet is centrally located to all of the highlights that The Blue Mountains and Central West has to offer. Public transport is not on offer and having your own Vehicle for transport is required. Kangarloo Retreat is self contained and you will need to bring your own food and drink supplies. The closest supermarkets and services are in Lithgow 14 minutes away.

We aim to help our guests create beautiful memories in our cosy home. Please take a few minutes to review the following rules to help make your stay as comfortable as possible.

PARKING
There is plenty of parking area at the front and side of the home. Please park ONLY on the gravel areas, and not on the grassed areas on the right side as you enter.

FOOTWEAR
Please use the doormat to clean shoes/boots prior to entering the home. If shoes/boots are dirty/muddy, please remove and clean them prior to wearing them inside, or they can be placed in the old chest on the verandah near the front door to help keep them dry and spider-free.
Footwear is NOT permitted on the furniture - both adults and children.

AIR CONDITIONING
If you need to use the air conditioning for heating or cooling, simply use the remote control units, located on the wall in the living room beside the front door and in the 2 bedrooms at either end of the house, near the light switches.
Please do not adjust the thermostat on the wall to the right of the combustion stove. This is NOT heating - it controls the heat transfer from the combustion stove to the two bedrooms behind the fireplace.

FIREWOOD/COMBUSTION STOVE
Firewood is located on the rack beside the combustion stove. This wood is for the combustion stove ONLY and is NOT to be used for the outdoor fire pit. You have been supplied with adequate wood for heating the home for the duration of your stay.

OUTDOOR FIRE PIT
For the fire pit, bags of split timber are available from service stations, or you can gather fallen/dead branches from the ground around the property.
Please download the Hazards Near Me app - if you haven’t already - for information about fire danger ratings and total fire bans if you are considering using the fire pit. This area was severely affected in the 2019-2020 bushfires and we do not want our home to burn down from careless use of the fire pit or a campfire.

BBQ
Feel free to use the barbecue. As with all appliances, you will find it clean on arrival, with the understanding it will be left clean after use. If the barbecue is found to have been left dirty, an extra cleaning fee of $50 will apply.

OUTDOOR BATHS
When finished with the baths, or prior to checking out (if you have used the outdoor baths) please use the cleaning spray provided (in the box beside the barbecue) to give the baths a spray, wipe down with the scouring pad/sponge, and rinse with the hose.

CHILDREN
Children and infants must be under active supervision by a parent or guardian at all times. All responsibility and duty of care for them must be provided by you.

PETS/SERVICE ANIMALS
Only well-behaved and house-trained pets are permitted, and they must be registered upon booking.
Pets are NOT allowed on the beds and they are to be kept out of the carpeted areas.
If you wish to have pets on the sofa with you, ensure you place the furniture protector pad/s on the sofa beforehand - they are located on the bottom shelf of the linen cupboard, beside the main bathroom.
There are coloured towels on the same shelf, which can be used to dry pets in the case of wet weather. Muddy paws are to be cleaned before pets are allowed inside.
Pets are not permitted to be left unattended at the property.
Please clean up after your pets - there are pet waste bags in a dispenser under the little table near the water tank.

SMOKING
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside. There is an ashtray on the patio. If you feel the need to smoke, close the doors to ensure the smoke does not drift into the home.

NOISE
Noise is to be kept to a minimum after 10pm - we like to keep our neighbours as friends.

ADDITIONAL GUESTS
A reasonable number of day visitors are permitted; however, NO extra guests are permitted as overnight visitors. Visitors are not permitted on the property after 10pm.
Parties, illegal activity, or disruptive gatherings are not permitted.
If guests are found to have had a party without host permission, which results in extra cleaning, guests will be responsible for extra cleaning charges, and, in the event of disruptions to our neighbours, guests will be asked to vacate the property immediately.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Guests are permitted to take personal photos for their own enjoyment and memories, but commercial photography/filming is not permitted without explicit permission from the host.

EMERGENCIES/SAFETY
For fire prevention and safety, please do not leave any electrical appliances switched on when not in use, or when you are not on the premises.
There may be snakes and funnel web spiders around - please be aware when wandering around the property.
For your own safety, please do not approach kangaroos or other wildlife.
OUT OF BOUNDS AREAS
The whole 5 acres are yours to explore during your stay, with the exception of the locked sheds/garage.

Unique hand-built lodge and environmental retreat on 8 private acres of Blue Mountains wilderness. The Cave is 20 metres high, wide and deep; similar size and shape to a small shell of the opera house with resounding acoustics.

Hatter's Hideout transects a deep mountain gorge with lush cool temperate rainforest, natural bonsai on wind swept heath to eucalypt forests, with panoramic views across Wollangambe Wilderness and the Wollemi National Park World Heritage Area, home of the prehistoric Wollemi pine.

THE CAVE

Set amidst towering escarpments, the Hat Cave is a huge sandstone cathedral, sculpted by nature to provide an ideal bushland retreat for modern cave dwellers (troglodytes). The natural acoustics are a musicians dream.
NB Due to a minority of irresponsible guests who have ignored my requests to minimise volume, speakers are now limited to re-chargeable portable speakers ONLY...Speaker systems that require 240v power are not permitted.

It has been carefully developed using minimal impact construction and facilities to ensure the environment remains as pristine as possible for future generations to enjoy.

CAVE FACILITIES

Camp fire with kindling and 20kg wood. Gas barbecue; ice box; tables and chairs. Solar powered lights for reading, cooking etc.; candles for intimacy. Rainwater on tap for cooking and washing up. Kitchen sink, utensils and basic cooking condiments. Composting toilet. First Aid Kit.

The 25 metre high arched opening faces north west with wind and weather protection by a grove of coachwood trees and 30 metre tall carved rock columns known locally as "pagodas", a predominant feature in the primitive landscape.

LODGE

A spacious mountain lodge with 3 Bedrooms and third-floor loft, as well as an additional 2 ensuite bedrooms hand crafted in a classic Australian style featuring artistic decor and views over the spectacular the Greater Blue Mountains Area from most rooms.

BOOKINGS INCLUDE

An interpretive “Bush Walk & Talk” to the Cave, to introduce you to the environs, facilities and “minimal impact” philosophy of Hatters Hideout.

Exclusive use of the lodge that sleeps 14. The 3 story lodge has three bedrooms, two king, one twin with a large loft with 2 single beds. Two new ensuite bedrooms with 3 single beds in each add 6 extra beds. The lodge has 3 lounge rooms, 2 bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen, dining room, wilderness views and a 4+ star luxury rating. The new games room is across from the lodge next to the Hopera house and fire pit.

Private use of the Cave, which is a 10 minute / 500 metre walk. It is well equipped for a group picnic or party and can sleep 10 people in natural luxury with camping gear provided, but you would need to be keen campers in the winter months. Gas for the BBQ and 20kg of firewood for the campfire are provided. Bring walking shoes.

Hatter's Hideout is ideally designed for groups of up to 20 (some may camp in the cave) to have exclusive use of a unique bushland property with outstanding natural facilities.

Hatters Hideout Cave & Lodge Rates:
Minimum 2-night stay for 8 guests (we have 8 beds in the lodge, plus a further 6 in two additional ensuite rooms & can accommodate a total of 14 people in beds. The extra guests above x14 (up to 20) have floor mats with sleeping bags/linen provided). Or you may choose to stay in the Cave which comfortably accommodates 10 people with mats and sleeping bags provided, or BYO. Please book for minimum of 8 adults/2 nights when you choose your dates. Welcome to Clarence Homestead located in the blue mountains.

The ideal location to explore the Blue Mountains or escape from the city and enjoy the quiet of the countryside but with the convenience of being located within a 15 min drive to Mt Victoria, 20mins to Blackheath and 10 mins to Lithgow.

The space
Clarence Homestead is your private farmhouse with a large indoor swimming pool and with 5 acres of natural landscape to enjoy. Sit back and relax in this calm, stylish space.

The indoor pool is a large area complete with a patio for the family to gather and entertain around the pool. Pour a glass of wine or read a book and enjoy the pool on a daybed.

The house comes with Wifi, 75'' Inch TV and Bose sound system and has access to Netflix, Stan, Prime and Disney using your own accounts. Additionally, there is NBN internet to enjoy fast internet for your convenience.

The house is a charming large space that is eco friendly, which both families and groups will be able to enjoy.

There is plenty of space in the two open plan living areas for large gatherings or families to have their own space. There is also a sports themed bar area for the adults to gather around for a drink.

The fireplace is ready to go in the front lounge area and there is split air-conditioning in Bed 1, Bed 2, Bed 3 and Living area. Bed 4 has a heater. You will find a fire pit to enjoy sitting around outside.

There are 4 bedrooms to suit the entire family, the master suite comes with a super sized king bed with views to the bush, it also has it's own ensuite.

There are 3 other bedrooms complete with their own wardrobes and 2 full size bathrooms. All bedrooms have views to the bush and rural landscape.

The kitchen comes with an oven, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, gas stove and microwave. it also comes equipped with tea, coffee, sugar, milk and with many other inclusions in the pantry which you are welcome to use.

There is also a Webber barbeque located in the patio area and a 6 seater outdoor table with chairs.

We also have an outdoor ping pong table for the guests to use.

Guest access
The entire 5 acres are there for you enjoy and there is plenty of parking on the concrete driveway.

The garage is not accessible as this area is used for storage.

Please be aware that kangaroos may be seen wandering around the property.

Lithgow is located about 10 mins away, there are a lot of grocery shops (Woolworths, Coles , Aldi and Target).

You will also find local pubs, cafes, restaurants, bakery’s , pizza shops and petrol stations here.
