Surrounded by dense forest you walk 20 metres to ½ a km. on any direction, you may have glimpses of wild life.

Wagtails, kingfishers, pheasants, forktails, hornbills are local natives of the jungle. You would get used to merry chirping of the birds as soon as you wake up… singing gaily all day, until they finally take rest at sunset.
Cute birdsongs, tinkering cowbells, mooing cows, hens clucking, their cheeping chicks in tow, local pet Himalayan dogs, baa of the sheep, bleating goats, the ringing bells of the quiet, gentle asses, all are teasers of the kaleidoscopic tapestry, adding to this simple, rustic holiday’s appeal.

Local Culture

The temple of Goraknath, the local deity of Sendhikhal and neighbouring villages, is approximately 3 kms uphill. It comes alive every summer in the third week of May, when it hosts a local fair, with people coming from near and far. It is a colourful affair and makes the sleepy village alive in the brief 2- 3 days period. Since a new way has opened up for vehicles, you can drive up to visit Goraknath Temple.

Tourists can take a Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari to Sonanadi zone of Kalagarh Tiger Reserve from Vatanvasa Gate. Vatan Vasa (23 km – 40 minutes drive), Haldu Parao (29 km- 45 minutes drive) and Kanda (44 km- little over an hours’ ride)* are easily accessible from Jungle View. One clean, dry, hygienic, well lighted, frugally furnished, independent room with independent entry/exit. The room has a window and the door of the room opens directly to the central courtyard. The room accommodates two independent beds with clean sheets, pillows and quilts.

Washrooms :-
Two common washrooms with Western and Indian style toilets each. There are however no showers and bathing is the traditional way using bucket and mugs. In case you are feeling adventurous you may bathe at the Stand Post or at the local village Stream/Spring

Food :-
The guest shall be served home cooked meals prepared using naturally grown and locally sourced ingredients. The menu shall be predominantly local Garhwali cuisine and special requests shall be welcomed subject to availability of ingredients. The guests are welcome to dine with the family in the kitchen, the traditional way, or can be served meals in the room.

Guest access
The guests shall have access to the entire village. The village folk are traditionally very hospitable and welcome all guests with immense warmth and respect. The guests can roam about the village remembering to be conservatively dressed and offer greetings the traditional Indian way by saying Pranam/Namaste. They can take breaks to chat up the villagers during their explorations.
The elderly primarily speak the local dialect called Garhwali, however almost the entire population is fluent in Hindi too. The younger population can converse a little in English too.

During your stay
The locals like to socialize with the guests, they like to narrate stories and hear about the experiences of the guests, often making a lot of queries.
The principal host if present in the village shall escort the guests around in case they so desire.

Village Isoti offers a wide range of activities and experiences for an evolved traveller. The guests may immerse themselves in any of the following :-

Trekking :-
Trekking to Ameli Ka Danda via an ancient Rhododendron and Silver Oak lined trail. En-route the trekker shall pass the temple of the local village deity, ruins of the military post of the local King and the perennial freshwater spring called Patla Pani.

Camping :-
Camping on the trail at the picturesque Dandi Dhar.

Sunset viewing :-
The guest can climb up to the highest point in the village or take a stroll towards the edge of the village to immerse in the mesmerising Himalayan sunset.

Agriculture :-
Experience the local style of agriculture, that is true to the centuries old methods. Assist the locals in their fields as they go about their routine agricultural chores. Try your hand at agricultural activities like ploughing, sowing, weeding etc.

Cattle/ Goat rearing :-
The guests can help in rearing of the domestic animals. They can experience milking of cows and other associated tasks.

Volunteering :-
Isoti is the base of Non Profit, Dagdiya Foundation which is actively working towards women empowerment and youth moblisation. The guests can volunteer to interact with, or teach pupils at the local primary or secondary school adopted by the Foundation. Or they can help out at the various activities at the Dagdiya Center built within the village. There is a critical deficiency of English and Information technology teachers. The house opens to quaint garden, that further opens to clearing that faces a valley of the Garhwal hills.
The nights here are particularly rustic- with a nip in the air evening. It's about 450 meter of walking distance along a foot trek.

The Sunshine Room is a cheerful, sunlit room on the first floor of The Umri, the house on the hill. It contains a vintage king-sized bed with matching bedside tables, an interesting old dresser and a fat comfortable armchair that compels you to drop into it, and stay there. There are large wardrobes for your belongings. The room has a spacious attached bathroom with all the modcons.
