- "Kona Koa lodge was perfect! The location is peaceful and quiet. There are multiple units on the property but positioned perfectly so you rarely see each other. The units are very clean and look newly built. The bed was very comfortable and unit was beautifully decorated. The family who owns the lodge is so welcoming and helpful even meeting us at the airport with flowers. They provided free transport to and from the airport. We were brought fresh pineapple juice and sat on the porch with the owner upon arrival to setup our car rental and tour guides. Our unit was cleaned everyday with fresh flowers provided on the porch afterwards. They provided recommendations on restaurants and were available via WhatsApp at all times. The owners made us feel like family. It was the right balance of remote and resort that fits Rapa Nui. Added bonus was free drinking water jugs in the room (thankfully not individual water bottles) and electricity from solar panels. We would definitely stay here again!!"

Right next door there is a shop (which accepts cards and is open early/late) that has tons of fresh produce, frozen foods, drinks, snacks, fresh coffee, and bread, so you can easily pick up these items to use in the kitchen. Within walking distance are several restaurants, shops, the seashore, the main shopping area, and the sunset point at Ahu Tahai. You can go watch the sunset and it's about a 10-minute walk back from there. Check out the empanada spot just up the road - delicious large empanadas made to order from scratch. It felt very safe to walk around the area even after dark. Jasmin helped us with everything and was so kind and friendly. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it."

If we had asked the owner he probably would have gladly gave us some, but we were too lazy. Speaking of the owner, he was very helpful. He picked us up from the airport. We weren't even expecting pickup. He was waiting for us with a sign and with "lays" (not sure if that's how you spell it). He doesn't really speak much English though. He can understand more or less, but not speak. Luckily I could speak some Spanish so we were able to communicate. He also has cars to rent (stick shift only) for a very good price. There are restaurants, shops, and convenience stores on the same street. I recommend this place if you are on a budget. If you have more money to spend, of course I'd book a room in one of the nice resorts on the island."

Breakfast, which was included with our stay, was delicious and varied from morning to morning. The cabin is also accessible to the town, even without a car. It's about a 20-30 minute walk. However, there are taxis that you can call or hail in the town. Driving back and forth is roughly 5000 Chilean pesos or 5 USD. Most importantly, the hostess was wonderful. She was very clear in explaining all of the amenities and gave us transfers to and from the airport. While taking us from the airport to the cabins, she gave us a brief and useful drive through fo the main town so that we knew where things are. "

But everytime I went to their (mostly locked) office she acted like I had just interrupted her family Christmas dinner. No heating/cooling and couldn't open windows because no screens and mosquitos would get in. Pleasant enough space, but I would stay closer into town (along the water) if possible in the future."

- "The four of us (2 couples) spent a week at the 2BR/2BA “Cabin” (actually a house) of Ovahe & Javier; a short walk from town. It met our needs so much better than a tourist hotel for many reasons: we could cook, store food in the refrigerator, make coffee, and have much more room than a hotel room.Both Ovahe & Javier are very responsive to any requests, such as when the first 5 gallon water bottle needed a replacement.All of the beds were very comfortable and the house had all that we required for a comfortable stay. Plus it’s located only an 8 minute walk away from a park that has WiFi.We very much enjoyed our walks from the house past the hospital (where Ovahe is the Pediactric Surgeon) down to the embaracdero, where the best restaurants reside. We didn’t have a bad restaurant meal at any place we ate, and some were quite excellent, such as Le Taverne du Percher and Au Bout du Monde.Both Ovahe & Javier were so warm, generous, and hospitable! They picked us up from the airport and upon our departure date invited us to a family barbecue (you haven’t lived until you’ve tasted Javier’s wood-grilled beef tenderloin) before conveying us all to our flight back to Tahiti, prior to our return to the U.S.Ovahe speaks excellent English and Javier - who claims not to - does very well also.One added benefit: Javier is good friends with James Grant-Peterkin, the Cambridge educated linguist who has lived on Rapa Nui for 20+ years, and who wrote the single best guide to the island (in multiple languages, btw). He operates an tour agency for English-speakers only, and we did his all-day tour upon arrival before renting a car and using his guidebook to explore on our own, and on our last day he guided us on the fabulous 8 mile hike of the North Shore. We 4 are 63-78 in age and it was an easy and gentle hike.If you want to experience the real Rapa Nui and not simply be in a first world cocoon in a hotel room, we highly recommend booking this VRBO gem on Rapa Nui."

The space
Cozy rustic space, with good lighting, with a unique personality, furniture manufactured and designed by the hosts, with recycled materials, renovated facilities, equipped kitchen, coffee bar, it has a private bathroom, plus an additional room, if more than two people come.
It is very close to Ahu Tahai, one of the most famous attractions, a 15-minute walk away, where you can see the sunset and also very close to the botanical garden.
It has a small terrace, where you can eat facing the garden and where the neighbors' chicks, chickens, sometimes kittens and horses usually come.
If you love nature, the countryside and you like to walk or ride a bike, you will enjoy it, if not, we recommend renting a car, motorcycle or taking a taxi whose value ranges from 2000 to 3000 pesos. This way you will reduce the time to the center of the village to 5 minutes. Keep in mind that all the archaeological sites are on the outskirts of town, so if you're not good at biking or long walks, you'll need to rent a car or hire a tour.
