- "We really enjoyed our 6 night stay at Alamanda. The staff were so friendly and looked after us well. Nothing was ever a bother and they really made our trip special. The included breakfasts were yummy with fruit, toast, cereal, yoghurt, juice, tea/coffee and the choice of cooked options prepared for you (eggs, pancakes, omelettes etc.). I'm gluten-free and had no problems with food options. The 3 course dinners were great and so cheap!! The cooks made great cheese toasties and fries whenever our teenagers were craving 'western' snacks also. Grab also deliver to Alamanda if you're wanting something delivered to eat. We did tours with Alamanda and their guides were knowledgeable and the vans were modern and clean. We had booked some tours booked with other companies before we left home but we won't next time. Alamanda tours were much less expensive (much!), more flexible with days (avoiding bad weather) and really great! Our teenagers loved the pool and the electric scooters. The countryside around the villas is great to see. The location is a little away from the bustling inner city but Alamanda has drivers to take you there any time (a 10 minute drive and very cheap). You could also order a grab. It was always nice to get back to Alamanda and away from the noise and car fumes in the city. The included stocked drink fridge (soft drinks) and daily laundry service was very generous and appreciated. We loved our stay! "

- "Beautiful and interesting home with different areas and a little courtyard inside. Carvings and tiles. They had an old radio, record player etc. wonderful if you want to see an old Kotagede type house from the inside. There's a bookshop attached to the house and it has a good selection of books, including Indonesian books translates into English, a section on Javanese culture, and political books like Gramsci etc. Location is good near lots of nice restaurants, walkable to the Mataram makams, and you can also walk around and see some kampongs in the area and there's cute coffeeshops with very affordable single origin coffee pours (affordable compared to eg. Jakarta and Bandung). My room had a four poster bed. The vibe was that of staying in a old relative's house, including the furniture and lamp style, TV with no netflix (they have cable) that's turned off at the base, and one thing to note is the room had only one other plug point and it's high up on the wall so you have to sit on a chair when you use your phone if you're charging it. Aircon was good. Lots of towels. I had to leave very early for my flight the next day and they packed me a full breakfast, which was super nice of them."

- "Unhygienic and dirty. The bathroom had wet yellow urine spilled on toilet and the previous occupants toiletries were still there. The bed had so many stains and when we removed the blanket there was mud and dirt inside. They did not clean the sheets after the previous occupants. The room had small bugs crawling and we can’t step foot outside in the patio either. We spent the night in disgust as there were no place to go at that time of the hour. When we checked in the apartment reception had no idea we were coming. They called and called and finally the person who was supposed to let us in showed up 45 mins later. He did not speak English and could not answer anything g when we asked about rn condition of the property. He left in a rush without even giving is wifi password. What a horrible stay. Don’t book this property. I can still smell that apartment on me a day later. "

This Eco Balai Javanese House renew traditional local architecture by "Yu Sing" of Akanoma Bandung architect studio.
He was three time awarded in 2015 and 2016 as best sustainable construction design with this balai, our Joglo and the eco infrastructures around.

Especially suitable for big families, corporates events, groups of friends or for group of individuals independent backpackers who are traveling on a shoestring budget and don't mind the simplicity of the facilities with a charming homey touch. It is the closest building to the beach (2 minutes) and most accessible, no need climbing stairs.

Two bathrooms (men/women) with western toilets and showers are located outside just up the building.

No mosquito net included on the price (tidak termasuk klambu). Only electric small repellent. If you need mosquito nets, send us a request. Additional charge per mosquito net may apply.

Ideal size for up 18 people but we can squeeze up to 20 people if really needed. Discount may applies depending on season for bigger group. As we can host people in other buildings. Our full capacity at Jiwa Laut is around 40 people with all the bungalows and houses.

The electricity in Indonesia is made from burning coal, which is harmful for people & environment, but at our place we generate it from solar panels & wind mill.
Our water is also chlorine free as we have our own well & collect rain water.

The black water is treated through our biogas station & the shower through grey water filtration system.

The house is within walking distance, about 50 meters, from the pristine quite Watu Kodok white clean sandy beach where you can sunbathe, relax, meditate, enjoy drinking a fresh coconut, swim or try bodybording/surfing.

We also rent out for families and small group with higher standard our Joglo (up to 8 people).

Every Jiwa Laut member practice meditation at different level with different technics originated from Indonesia, Yogic India & the Himalayas. Don't be shy to ask us & try. GOING INSIDE: We can also accommodate people looking for a meditation stay (minimum 1 week). We offer free support & advise and can bring you to a local spiritual javanese teacher. Important part of it is our healthy detox plant based focus diet, as food is best medicine for body & mind.
Alternative is to organise here your own program to follow online in your bungalow. We can recommend "Inner-engineering" from Sadhguru (6 days) or the "Joy of Living 1-3" from Tergar, Mingyur Rinpoche, that we've already done in the past.

YOGA: spots in nature around & in our balai dormitory hall or your balcony, for doing your yoga routine. We have matras. We can give you as well a free introduction of "traditional" Yoga for beginners to understand that it is more than stretching & postures, but "union" or non duality, of body, mind, soul & the universe or the higher energy. We can give deeper input on spiritual side of it for more advance people interested. Don't hesitate to ask for it.

SPIRITUALITY: people seriously interested into spirituality can join if available local ceremonies & meditation with local community where they can interact. Like special evenings, fullmoon or rituals. They like to share to people seriously interested to follow a spiritual journey.

CULTURE: join local cultural event like traditional all night long shadow puppet, cleansing ceremonies or carnival for harvest of the village & traditional music gamelan.

BATIK: you can try & learn basic batik technics at our place. It is an art bit also a kind of meditation practice kind of Yantra. We also have ecoprint (trace leave) & recycling plastic products workshop in the village

LIBRARY: we have many books in different languages from us for health, spirituality, culture, personal growth or any kind left by guests in your bungalows and in the common dinning space.

PERMACULTURE GARDEN FOREST: started as a standard permaculture design evolving to a garden forest as nature have pushed it, to gives food, water & habitat to wildlife, before now feeding humans.
You can explore it with more than 50 different kind of tree species, many plants growing around them, some edible as leaf tree too, some even rare to find in the province. You can try tree hugging it as forest therapy. Some have high vibrations and recognise as mystic trees by local tradition and spirituality. Also pay attention to details, most of our guest per exemple pass every day over small Trigona bees house in the kitchen without seeing them working hard to pollinating plants. We have many kind of butterflies, birds, frogs. People spend hours on social media, we can spend hours watching ants, birds, bees, trees. Doesn't sound fun, but when you get to it, you enter a new world & dimension of Oneness with nature until your quantum particles connect to your vegetal & animal cousin. A banana tree shares about 50% DNA with humans, some mushroom a 1/4. If you are interested don't hesitate to ask us for a free discovery walk.

HERBAL APOTHECARY: about 30 different kind of plants and trees used in javanese and ayurveda tradition for healing. We make herbal tea out of some of it. Ask us to get any special custom made tea & herbs in case you have any situation which our herbs could help to deal with. Or just if you want to try it.

ARCHITECTURE: our place & the buildings were designed by two different architects (one for the bamboo / one for the wooden buildings & concept). Looking for a place to be free to practice advance sustainable technics. We also produce our own electricity (wind&solar). Treat our water & trash. Don't hesitate to ask us to have a look if you want to learn more about it.



FOOD HOST TABLE:
Have you ever heard about Mediterranean or Okinawa diet & the "blue zones" where people live healthy & very old?

Here you will stay in a small blue zone area & get treated by the not yet famous traditional local version of Javanese diet, "Khas Gunungkidul" by local women villagers.
In our concept food is best medicine for body but also mind & soul and can be a major contributor to solve climate change & pollutions issues. 26% of CO2 emissions come from modern agriculture & processed agroindustrial food consumption. Water & soil get polluted. Rainforest cut. So what you eat every day not only impact your health but other people & the planet. Most Indonesia farmlands are no exception to that.

We put very qualitative, gustative, organic & traditional food product front as highlight without much transformation & cooking to get the best of it. We are surrounded with still traditional farmers growing food that could get into star rated chefs restaurant & fishermen with their traditional catch of the day.
It is a simple "blessing from nature to table", like eating at grand ma home with a bit of Jiwa Laut creative twist.

It is available for breakfast and/or lunch, snacks and dinner. We only use natural products, no additive, preservative, MSG, industrial products, no palm oil & all gluten free.
All cooked on the spot, so you have to be patient every meal take time to get ready, nothing instant in it & please order it a day in advance.

We don't have menu but we cook a dish on the day following seasons and what we get.
Unlike most of eateries around we like to focus on vegetables dishes accompanied with red rice/cassava rice/sorghum rice with fish or organic eggs or vegan protein on the side.

For people requesting meat, we can organise (if booked some days in advance only), a full organic running free, fresh chicken from the village with additional cost.

For any other food order, we would appreciate your order at least a day in advance to book the cook and also get the time needed to get and harvest the food.

Thanks to you women villagers get the opportunity to get out of their house kitchen and be empowered and recognised as "Chef". Also the local farmers/fishermen can get recognized for their manual hard work at a fait trade price.

Some of our signature products:
- Fried banana on coconut oil with Mocaf & Sorghum flour.
- Mocaf homemade flour. It is made from Fermented Cassava (manioc). The best local roots transformed into a gluten free tasty flour to cook you fried banana and many more. (We don't use imported GMO wheat floor).
- Fresh Moringa leaves & flowers as vegetable (expensive superfood in western countries) from our permaculture trees, to make omelette, soup, special curry soup and more.
-Fruits that you may have never tasted before depending season, like apple custard, soursop, sapodilla, mulberries or bilimbi.
- Sorghum (kind of millet) biodynamic farming from West Jawa as our rice and flour to add a kind of crispy/tempura taste. - Tiwul, traditional organic cassava rice the icon of our region.
- Natural red rice from our area.
- Fresh organic coconut, to make fresh vegan or fish curries, drinks, sugar and coconut oil for cooking. (We are 100% Palm Oil free here).
- Local organic tempeh (self fermented soya beens, in teck wood leaves) and tofu.
-Our area is famous for a variety of local grown beans (green, red, black, brown). Also different kind tarot roots & gourds.
- Seafood and fish. Catch of the day from the local fishermen, using traditional boats and sustainable seasonal fishing methods. Guaranty no illegal or industrial farming or frozen fishes from other side of Java.
-High quality "Bean to Bar" organic single origine chocolate grown in our area (one of the best quality in Indonesia).
- Signature robusta organic coffee from small producers from Menoreh mountain (near Borobudur temple) selected and roasted artisanally by our friend prepared with french press.
- Herbal teas. We love to prepare our special jamu homemade herbal tea (detox and increase stamina) with ginger, turmeric, lemongrass, cinnamon and other local wood herbs/spices. We have up to 20 ingredients. Ask if you have special needs to cure.
- Alcaline water from rain water treated with electrolytes (depending on rain water availability)

We don't use MSG, preservative or ready made industrial products. Whole food.

Your host is graduated in food engineering and specialist in nutrition for any advise you may need.

COOKING CLASS:

You can learn to make the herbal teas, harvest food, cook your own dinner or even make your own Tiwul (cassava rice) & cassava MOCAF floor.

Don't hesitate to ask us for an introducing tour around the property to show you how works our sustainable compound, with solar panel, black water treatment and biogas, grey water treatment system, eco architecture, permaculture garden, the rain water tank collectors, regenerating soil & land, ecobricks & plastic trash. We just ask people to put an up to your heart donation into our donation box to support our projects and make possible our activities to continue as we have high maintenance cost & low income to run such a place.

We are part of the community Refillmybottle. We offer safe drinking water for refill your own bottle, just ask for a small donation to finance our recycle plastic project.

We have an affordable car and local drivers available for bringing you around.

The villagers rent scooter/motor to explore around.

Other things to note
You will stay in a still natural ecosystem where humans live harmonised with nature.

Be aware the house is surrounded by forest, bushes and farm land.
There are insects and animals living around like mosquitos, bugs, flies, ants, lizards, frogs, mouses, kind of opossum, squirrels, martels, luwak, birds, bees, bats etc.... none is harmful.
If you can get out of your comfort zone & fears of being which are more afraid of you that you are of them, you will discover a new dimension of living, a joy like people as David Attenborough from BBC Earth or any indigenous people does.
However we do our best keeping them away from you, but we cannot guaranty that you won't get one inside your place. They were living here before us and we are living in their place not the other way around.

To avoid it please help us by not keep food inside the house, even with packaging. If you really need to keep some, keep it airtight in the provided wooden box. Careful also about leather stuff & cables.
Every house has geckos hiding inside as their habitat are human houses, they will eat the bugs & some mosquitoes. It is seen as a symbol of luck.

We try to offer best standard of cleanliness and hygiene but don't expect the place be as clean and sterile like city hotels as we are located in rural Indonesia. You may even get some little poo from the geckos.

Our houses are not hermetically closed to get natural breeze air circulation and you may get little bit dust or leaves and salty moist from the ocean wind. The bathrooms have also open roof to feel the nature.
We don't use chemicals to clean but natural soap, white vinegar and soda powder like our grand-parents did.

This area is only open to tourism for a couple of years. Mostly for weekend/holidays local tourists. The people still live around us their traditional farmer and fishermen Javanese life. We ask you to respect them and their customs as we are their "guests". The local people and us we don't practice "tourists" or "foreigners" prices, same price for anybody. All the prices unlike tourists area do not include 15-20% services and taxes. We ask you to not use this opportunity to exploite them as they already have been for centuries. One of our philosophy is share, enrich not exploite. Their income and margin are very little that's why the prices are low. We encourage our visitors to round up and tip generously the people and the service you use and get if you are happy with it. They have the same right to get fair salary and have access to the same standard of living as anybody has. Not tipping may be seen by some people as you may not be happy with their meals, driving, massage or whatever they offer you. 10 to 20% is fair, but bear in mind that nowadays you can't buy much in a shop with 1000 or 2000 rupiah, so never leave just coins. You can also offer presents is you are invited or want to extra reward people. Tipping is not only good for your karma also you will get more respect and reward from the people. More you give is more you get in all the sense of the word.

Please take note that our crew and people working for tourist at and around our area are not hospitality tourism professionals. People were farmers, fishermen, construction workers, public servant etc... So cannot expect to get the full 5* touristic area standard service & amenities.

Our second philosophy is to limit our impact to the minimum on a fragile ecosystem area, with scarce natural resources to be shared with all the people living and visiting around the beaches.

We don't provide AC but we provide a portable fan. An extra air-cooler or fans are available on demand. There is natural sea breeze and the architect built it in a way to create air circulation. However it is not hot like in cities as there is no cement & bungalows are surrounded by trees, forest for shade.

No hot water showers (not a must in tropical hot country) but fresh water (we can if you really need it cook hot water) and we and the earth will be very happy if you save water as we have limited water tanks and spring capacity particularly during the dry season. Please save electricity as we still depend on government coal power station (turn off lights, limit charging batteries).

We like to recommend to unplug here. No TV but we have internet we turn it on demand. The speed is variable. Don't abuse, detox & retreat is a must here.
Limited 3/4G phone signal, Telkomsel is the best.

Please come with your reusable water bottle which you can refill with safe drinking filtered water (we are part of refillmybottle community). we just ask small donations to be put into our donation box, which we use to finance our waste community project and the refill zero waste water station.

Please be aware that in this area there aren't any trash management organised, people burn or dump trash in the nature, so please do not bring with you non compostable single use disposable plastic products as our place can't handle it or if needed bring it back with you to the city after your stay as many guests like to do.

The closest ATM is 10 minutes away by foot and well furnish minimarket 30 minutes by scooter or car driving from our places. Only local warungs, shops with the essentials but you don't need to bring food & drinks from city as we can provide it & the warung too. Support local economy.

Credit and debit cards are not accepted in the region. So please take enough cash and what you may need extra.

Wood Stone is a relaxed, social homestay tucked into a peaceful local neighborhood in Yogyakarta. That means when we’re full, about 12 guests share the house and common areas, a great chance to meet friendly travelers while still enjoying quiet moments.

Our house is located in a quiet, local residential neighborhood. Morning prayer calls from nearby mosques are part of daily life here, we recommend bringing earplugs if you're a light sleeper.

Please help us keep the peace by keeping noise to a minimum between 11 PM and 7 AM, especially in common areas.

🚗 The house is not directly accessible by car. If you're bringing one, you can park about 30 meters away near local homes. If you use their space, please kindly tip the locals.

👥 Private rooms are for 2 people max. An extra bed for 1 additional guest is available with advance notice and extra charge, please let us know after booking.
