- "Lovely hotel! We had a great time!" - "We had an amazing stay at this resort. The place was clean and VERY well kept. Staff was plentiful and all made sure that we were comfortable and happy. Rooms were good size and supplied with drinking water, refrigerator, safe, etc. The food was all-inclusive including alcoholic beverages. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, BBQ, all served on time with lots of choices. There were seven of us with different tastes, allergies, and dietary requirements and the menu met all of them. They served plenty of fresh fruit, egg free breads/desserts (a couple of people in our group could not have eggs and were happy to see a choice of items without them), meat choices, and vegetarian dishes as well. Fresh juices with every meal (pineapple being my favorite). There’s a pizza station, ice cream station, and a bar near one of the many pools. The grounds were well kept, pool kept clean, water aerobics sessions were fun, and nightly entertainment, along with a beautiful beach. This is not a new property but WE ENJOYED ourselves and would return. Also, treat yourself to a “four hands body massage “ where two massage therapist work on you at the same time- WONDERFUL!!!"

I really enjoyed my stay. The only downside is that it’s on a long dirt road off the main road and I didn’t feel comfortable walking down it (single female). I think if I was with another person I wouldn’t have felt that way. However you can order a tuktuk no problem and they will take you almost anywhere for 300 shn. Also the one morning when I was meeting a driver for some diving the security guard walked me along the road and was very nice about it. I absolutely loved my stay here and would highly recommend it. Upon arrival, we were informed that because we hadn’t pre-booked breakfast, no meals would be available the following day—even if we wished to pay for them—due to an event taking place. The staff is wonderful, special thanks to Hamisi and Mwiniyi. The food is very mediocre not because of the chefs but there appeared to be a lack of supplies. The kitchen/chef really struggled to fulfill the menu items (I ordered Chicken Breast w/rosemary and got a leg, thigh with some kind of tomato sauce and there was a struggle to create a Vegetarian Burger, took 45 minutes). The only tropical drinks they offered was a Pina Colada and Camparie. There are cottages and if one is driving (Kenya is a crazy place to drive) than one can bring their own food. The front desk could not make change for a small bill. The private beach was not kept clean so had to deal with debris. There is no gift shop and shopping is very far away. If you are looking to be alone in a serioulsy beautiful resort this is it. "

- "An absolute pearl on the Kenyan coast. The location is quite and beautiful, with professional and super friendly staff and management. The food was amazing and served in wonderful atmosphere. We stayed for five nights and enjoyed every second, either on the beach or in the pool, watching baby turtles crawl to the sea with the Tiwi Turtle Police or visiting the nearby star fish sanctuary and the African pool. The tide is dramatic and there is lots to explore in rock pools at low tide with easy access to snorkel from the beach."

Modern South has a nice pool, superb service (thanks Felix, Juma, Lugo,Patrick) from people who care, the rooms are fine (not luxurious but everything you need w plenty of space nice shower water pressure and a great firm bed w nice linens (that amazingly are changed daily!). - "This was a complete mess. To start, they forgot about our reservation and had to put us in a temporary room for two days. During this time, there was a blackout that no one thought to update us on. Honestly, that temporary room was the best part of the stay. Our official room had a roach infestation and, when I told the host, he had a fumigation company come and spray while our bags were in there (of course, this ended up with roaches running into one of our bags). After spending a full night killing roaches, I demanded to be put in another room no matter what and he moved us to the room next door… where there were also roaches. I would have left earlier if possible but flights to Diani are not that frequent but I’m so relieved to be going home after this nightmare stay."

- "The term Luxury cottage is an insult. The pictures are very misleading.This place is so run down. The staff you can tell is trying hard but obviously the owner cares nothing about customer service or being honest. Our "Luxury cottage" had no microwave, no satellite TV and the kitchen and living room were exposed to heat as there are no windows only loose screening that let lots of bugs in. The couch and beds sit on concrete reminiscent of city jail. I realize this property is in the tropics but our place had roaches all over it. Now the kicker they expect you to pay more if you use to much electricity. If you're in the service industry you have to be prepared for tourist who can be wasteful with electricity and while I try to turn lights\AC off when not used you can't punish people for not. It was so bad,I stayed one night on a four day booking and offered to pay for two nights and asked for a refund for two nights but was giving a bunch of bad excuses why my refund hadn't been processed. I gave up. If this place was budget backpackers place I wouldn't have an issue but they claim luxury and charge accordingly so I warn you to not do business with this place."
