Marseillan is one of the oldest villages in France situated on the Etang de Thau and by the famous Canal du Midi. It is only 5km from beautiful sandy Mediterranean beaches, perfect for soaking up the sun and unwinding. Our beautiful port has recently been totally renovated, making it even more enjoyable. The port is a genuine village hub with lovely bars and restaurants that serve the wonderful local oysters & mussels and local wines like the popular Picpoul.

Ideally situated in the heart of this historic village, our three-storey house, previously a wine making house has been tastefully renovated. The house is on three storeys, the ground floor gives access to the laundry facilities, the first floor has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a small TV/reading lounge. The first bedroom with AC has an En-suite bathroom, a king size bed, storage and is located at the front of the house with 2 small balconies and has a sunny aspect. The second bedroom with AC also has a king size bed or twin beds, storage, a private bathroom and is located at the back of the house with morning sun.
There is also a small TV and reading room on the middle floor with a desk and a sofabed. They lost our dinner reservation at the on site restaurant after confirming it the SAME day. The waiter at the restaurant was very rude and dismissive. If you want a holiday in the South of France, Marseillan is a wonderful location. Our lovely air-conditioned luxury property is nestled in the attractive port area just yards from the waterside with a super view from the terrace of the boats arriving and departing the harbour.. Sitting at the front of the terrace enjoying croissant and coffee for breakfast or cheese and wine for lunch watch locals arrive with their boats and barges arrive from the Canal du Midi. In the evening the area is quiet and peaceful for eating outside and enjoying the stunning views or late evening sun although you are only a couple of minutes stroll from the restaurants.. There is a good size double and a twin bedroom so the house is suitable for a couple or 4 persons.. Internet and wifi is included. A short stroll around the corner takes you to the great selection of portside cafes, restaurants and bars whereas a few minutes further will take you to the old village where you will find bakers, grocers, pharmacies, small supermarket, more restaurants and bars etc.

A lovely park by the waterside is 3 minutes walk. Picnic tables provided. Here in summer you will also find water sports.

There is a lift to the apartment on the second floor and something vital in the summer - air conditioning. In the heat of the summer you can sit outside at the back of the terrace in the shade or sit at the front to enjoy the full hot sun. There is a table and chairs for four when dining and four lounging chairs.

The kitchen is fully equipped for a large work surface, microwave. electric oven, hob and grill and fridge with freezer. There is also an iron an ironing board.

The bathroom has a large bath (not widely available in this area) with shower over plus large basin/vanity unit and heated towel rail.

A few minutes drive away is the massive sandy beach which if you want big waves and beach clubs/restaurants this is the place for you. A few minutes walk from the property is the watersports area offering paddleboarding and kayaks.

The old port is a protected heritage site and looks virtually the same as it did a hundred years ago with any new building in keeping. The port is also home to the famous Noilly Prat museum and distillery fabulous for cocktails. There are numerous vineyards in the vicinity for wine tasting.

A few minutes stroll and you will be in the old village which is home to many restaurants, bars, cafes, chemists, grocers, boulangeries, butchers and even a small supermarket. On Tuesday morning there is a large market with foods, clothes and homeware.

We normally change over on a Friday or Sat but will try to be flexible on other arrival days where possible to tie in with Ryanair flights in to Beziers (nearest airport), Nimes or Carcassonne. Easyjet flies to Montpellier. My local housekeeper lives in the village.

The property is in Marseillan, South of France overlooking the waters-edge from the sunny, south facing terrace and is a gorgeous, stylish, architect-designed property with air conditioning and wifi. Converted from an old Marseillan wine warehouse it enjoys stunning views in the sun. Many UK flights from Luton, Stansted and more to Beziers and Montpellier. Also flights from Ireland, Stockholm, Paris and Germany.

The property has 2 bedrooms (a good double and large twin). If you like the sun this is the property to book as there is a large terrace (as in the pictures) which faces the south and gets sun from morning until sun down in the evening, for dining/sunning and overlooking Marseillan waterside it is ideal for a couple or family.

Watch people strolling along the waterside from the terrace, see the yachts and barges come and go or take a stroll around the corner to the many portside cafes and restaurants.

The terrace gets the sun until the sun goes down and has a table for dining with 4 chairs and two lounging chairs. In high summer the terrace enjoys sun at the front of the terrace and shade at the back ( it often gets too hot to be in the sun all day!)The views across the waterside constantly stun.

Marseillan is a lovely port and a stopping point for those travelling along the Canal du Midi. Steeped in history Marseillan is possibly the oldest village in France. The area was originally settled by the Greeks more than 2500 years ago and was a very active Roman commercial centre.

With an old village it is still relatively unknown but once you know about it beware as you will want to keep coming back! There are about 15-20 places to eat, shops selling everything you need - boulangeries, pharmacies, greengrocers, fish, meat and everyday essentials (all within a short walk).

Travel a little further afield and you can visit the old port of Sete, historical Pezenas, Carcassonne, Aigues Mortes, riverside villages, mountains, gorges and sweet villages such as Bouzigues aptly named for a bouzie, fishy lunch.

Getting to Marseillan is by flights to 4 airports within driving distance, nearest is Beziers (20 mins drive), Montpellier (50 mins drive), Nimes (60 minutes drive) and Carcassonne (about 75 mins drive). UK flights are from Luton, Stansted, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh and more (depending on time of year). Flights with Ryanair and Easyjet. The house is on a quiet street, overlooking a pretty square. On 3 levels the house enjoys the benefit of an integral garage. As well as a washing machine, walk in shower & WC the garage is home to a games area including table tennis. There is still room for a medium sized car. On the first floor there is a spacious living area (with double sofa bed), and wood burning stove - for the winter months. There is a separate fitted kitchen/dining area with french doors leading from the kitchen directly onto a completely private south facing terrace with table & chairs, and BBQ. This means that outdoor eating couldn’t be simpler. The completely enclosed terrace is very safe for children.
