Outside kitchen, pool, scenery and games room fabulous. Property typical of the area so very dark inside but when weather is great there is hardly any need to be inside - we cooked outside for all our meals including breakfast. Position is a bit out of the way for some of the north Portugal towns we like to visit so needed the car and did a lot of miles. A two storey house

Lower floor: Open plan kitchen / living area boasts a large wooden table. It is very well appointed (fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, large gas stove and electric oven, kettle, toaster, coffee and espresso machine, wine glasses, all types of pans, and so on) and also includes a particularly pleasant fireplace for the colder seasons. In the living area you will find a SmartTV with cable. The new construction of the building comprises a reception area with a desk (ideal for those who need to catch up on some work) and guest shower room, turkish steam room for 2 people and a twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom. In order to help people with mobility problems, the ground floor has no steps and the ensuite bathroom of the twin bedroom has been specially constructed for wheelchair users - with enough space to move a wheelchair. There is an ensuite bath. The access from the car parking area is done through a slope of about 6% inclination all the way to the front of the villa. The swimming pool has built-in steps making the access much easier than the aluminium ladders.

- "Very nice house with plenty of space for a large family or two families. The garden is beautiful and the same is the area with the swimming pool. It is situated 15 minuts drive from Ponte de Lima, a nice cozy city with restaurants and cafes. Duarte is very helpful host and made sure the house was clean and in tip top condition when we arrived." - "With a 10-day stay in view we had intended to explore the area, but liked the property so much we stayed put most of the time. A beautiful house, simply and charmingly decorated with old Portuguese things, and comfortable beds. There is even a projector for watching DVDs, and the kitchen has every implement anyone might need to prepare a feast every night (which we did). The pool is enchanting - fed by the spring so very refreshing even on the hottest day - and the garden is a paradise of fruiting trees. We loved being able to eat fresh lemons and walnuts. There are plenty of games to keep the most energetic group happy too. We made full use of the chess and the badminton. Only two things occasionally threatened our tranquillity - the barking of a neighbour's dog, not incessant, thankfully, and the sound of the motorway over the horizon which we noticed on windless days. Overall, though, the sheer beauty of the place minimised these minor irritations. Plus Duarte, the owner, who visited a few times to check on the water in the pool, was kindness personified. He even provided an old guitar for our singer-songerwriter son to use, and then returned with a set of new strings for it. Thankyou again, Duarte!"

Casa da Lapa is located on a privileged hillside in the Corno de Bico nature reserve, where the sun beats down from morning until nightfall. The garden, full of plants, is set on several terraces where there is a saltwater swimming pool and several sun loungers, surrounded by huge rocks with a platform installed, a kind of balcony overlooking the valley of the village of Castanheira, where you can also see the Alto Minho countryside.

The green landscape is dotted with small villages where the inhabitants move around with their flocks and come across this house when collecting the animals in the evening. The sound of goats' and sheep's bells in the background breaks up the silence that surrounds the village, until now only interrupted by the chirping of birds.

The house, which is around two hundred years old, was restored in 2005 so that it would survive the test of time and house a family, while retaining its design. In 2010, it was extended with a contemporary building. Rebuilding it was a challenge.

Paredes de Coura was a sentimental choice, the location was one of its attractions and even its poverty. It was a typical Minho house, with an identity of simplicity that had to be preserved. That was the starting point for the project: 'a bridge between two moments in time' where the modest past is recognised and the aesthetic contemporaneity and comfort are valued for holiday enjoyment.

At the far end of the garden, the swimming pool, with saltwater treatment, seems to be suspended in the landscape, underlining the elegance of the space, where the flowers and trees add colour, increasing comfort and privacy.

It is an old farmhouse, with more than one hectare of private land surrounding it.Inside the house, in the large living room, a lounge area around the stove welcomes those who come from outdoor activities with all the comfort and convenience; there is no lack of flat screen TV and wi-fi.

By the end of the 19th century, the railway line between Porto and Valenca was established so the Eiffel Bridge was built by Gustave Eiffel, of the Paris Eiffel Tower fame. You can admire his work from the riverside park along Avenida de Camoes in the town.

Foz do Minho Beach is wonderful, as is Praia de Vila Praia de Ancora. It forms part of the Lagarteira Fortress which was built in the 17th century to serve as a defence. It is good for windsurfing with lovely scenery. Forte da Insua is on the little island off the coast of Caminha. Inhabited by monks from the 14th century, a 17th century fortress was built to offer them protection.

If you follow the Minho River, you can visit the delightful Tui on the northern side of the river, in Galicia. It boasts a beautiful historic centre and an excellent range of gourmet dining as well as excellent shops. Tui is located south of the Pontevedra province and sits on the edge of the Minho River, opposite the Portuguese town of Valenca. The towns are connected by a nineteenth century bridge. Valenca do Minho is located on the hillside overlooking the left bank of the Minho and on the main road that links the Spanish Santiago de Compostela with Porto. Tourists flock to the town to buy embroidered tablecloths and sheets, the speciality of the town.

Viana do Castelo’s compact historic centre boasts extravagant religious buildings, delightful cafes, elegant plazas and narrow shopping streets which open onto the banks of the Rio Lima. The pearly white, neo-Byzantine Santa Luzia Church presides over the city, sitting high on the hilltop.

Ponte de Lima is one of the most characterful and picturesque towns of Northern Portugal, on the southern banks of the Lima River. The location has been the main river crossing since the Romans constructed a bridge in 1AD. There is a delightful mix of ancient houses, grand religious buildings and pretty plazas. There are a number of interesting museums as well as colourful flower gardens and stunning natural scenery all around. The Ponte do Lima is an excellent centre for adventure activities such as the Ecovia cycling route, kayaking along the Lima River, mountain biking or hiking in the Serra D’Arga or birdwatching in the Lagoas de Bertiandos. You can river bathe in Labruja.

Further south, Braga is regarded as one the main religious centres of Portugal, with the oldest cathedral and many Gothic churches. Every hour you will hear a cocophony of different church bells ringing out! It is the third largest city of Portugal and is a joy to explore. Braga is an enthralling university city and the setting for Bom Jesus do Monte, a fine monument. The historic centre is fully pedestrianised. There are pretty city gardens, charming plazas and busy shopping streets.
