You are invited to come stay at Casa Ana one of our charming villas located on our ranch, “ Hacienda San Juan de La Vega” in San Pablo del Lago in the province of Imbabura, Ecuador. This majestic hacienda (40+ hectares = 100 acres) is located at the end of a long Andean valley with a stream flowing through its green pastures. Along the stream you will find pools that are perfect for taking a little dip if you dare…the water is a bit chilly; however, extremely invigorating! Our nieces and nephews love this outdoor pastime. We also have horses on our property for those of you who enjoy horseback riding! If you really want to go back intime we invite you to take a horse drawn hayride... it is just a lot of fun!

A perfect retreat from wherever you find yourself at this moment… into a serene nature filled environment. A complete RETURN to NATURE, If you choose you can leave your cell phones, internet, emails & stress behind… its up to you! We do have wireless internet if you choose to use it.

On our property we have an organic vegetable garden. You are welcome to harvest from our garden for your meals. If you are a garden lover you are also welcome to work in our garden, which is my personal favorite pastime. Learn about permaculture farming methods that take being organic to a completely new level! We are in the process of implementing this philosophy of farming on our ranch. You are also welcome to gather eggs from our free-range chicken coop & enjoy fresh scrambled eggs for breakfast!

Some of our guest have enjoyed going to the local animal market / fair, where they purchase their own egg laying hens, baby chicks, bunny rabbits, guinea pigs & more... We have plenty of space on our ranch to make this possible, so just have fun bring your own farm animals back to our ranch. Your children will have a blast! P.S. The animals at the Animal Fair are very inexpensive... It´s just fun for your children! As an adult I love the experience myself.

Brand new, beautiful modern beach front villa in the heart of Ayampe, take a retreat experience in this special place at the best location. Ayampe is known for its unique quiet and peaceful vibe, healthy eating, surf and yoga practice is just a part of it's charm. This Villa is design to enjoy the amazing beach of Ayampe that is just a few steps from the Villa, the best part is the incredible sunset view from the comfort of your bedroom.

- "This property is exquisitely located about 20 yards back from the Ayampe beach — this is hard to tell from the photos because there are mangrove plants separating the gated property from the beach. The mangrove plants are trimmed to provide amazing views of the Isla de los Ahorcados, while at the same time making the property almost invisible to passers-by from the beach. There is a good view of the main surf breaks where you can check conditions from the comfort of the king-sized bed before venturing out for an early morning session. Despite the extremely poor weather during our stay — cloudy/rainy/gloomy month of May and spring tides (aguaje) making beach conditions difficult — this comfortable duplex condo made the stay much more bearable and entirely worthwhile. We were pleased to find out on the day we arrived that the king bed had a pull-out bed tucked underneath, which was perfect for our child to sleep on. There was also a grill outside on the patio, though we didn't end up using it. In addition to a very luxurious bedroom layout inside and large master bathroom, there is also a smaller half-bath downstairs, an outdoor spigot to wash off sand on your feet, as well as a complete outdoor shower with hot water (when coming in from the beach on those chilly days in May through August!) There was a very large television in the bedroom. The satellite TV (DirectTV) seemed to have been expired, but we didn't need this anyway and ended up using the Roku with YouTube and working Netflix account. Maria the host was very friendly and responsive via WhatsApp and gave us all the info we needed. For these reasons, we felt that the price per night was reasonable, compared to many of the more rustic bungalows and hotel offerings nearby. The only potential issue we saw was that parking is a little tight when all the units on the property are occupied. Getting in is easy, but to get out, there isn't enough space to turn our Gran Vitara around, so we had to back the vehicle out carefully snaking through the property. If you have an oversized vehicle like a Ford F150, you'll probably need to arrange alternate parking with Maria. Ayampe is our long-time favorite holiday beach. And is highly recommended for its seclusion and small-town beach vibe. The prevailing swell direction from the south Pacific causes Ayampe to be heavily affected by spring tides. Search google for "calendario aguajes ecuador" and plan accordingly."

The long and beautiful beach was virtually empty because of the Coronavirus lockdown. --The living area sits seven guests, the table and chairs up to eight guests.
--There is an oven/fireplace in this area with wood for your use.

KITCHEN AND COOKING

--The stove uses gas. You will need to use matches or a starter (provided) to light it up.

--The oven is electric. To turn the oven on, please push the little black knob in the upper central part of the clock where you will see a bell icon, turn it to your left side and set the baking time. The oven will be turned on then, you can set the temperature and the method of baking with the other knobs.

--The hot water in the kitchen sink comes out when you place the faucet knob all the way to the left.

-- There is a microwave oven for your use.

--There is a full size refrigerator and freezer

-- The set of dishes and trays are inside the armoire, the glasses above the sink.

--The silverware and cooking utensils as well as pots and pans are in the cupboards.

-- The napkins, placemats and spices are in the pantry as well as the cleaning utensils._You will also find basic items such as sugar and salt. If you arrive late at night, I will make sure you have some coffee and toast, fruit and eggs.

BATHROOMS

--The left knobs in the bathroom sinks and shower/bathtub are for hot water. The master bathroom has a tub, the second bathroom a shower.

-- Please place all used toilet paper inside the toilet, it is safe to do so.

--You will find plenty of towels and extra toilet paper.

BEDROOMS

--The master bedroom has a KING size bed and a sofa, table and chair. There also a wood fireplace which can be used/ wood is provided.

--The second bedroom has bunk beds, the bottom ones are double size and the upper ones single ones. There is also a library and you are welcome to use the books.

--The beds will be made and if staying over a week's time, the maid will come to change sheets and clean the house.

--The outside lights switch is inside, next to the hutch, (next to the large exit door). The switch for the main gate is on the left side of the gate (inside). The house also has exterior sensor lights for the evening.

P R O P E R T Y

--Feel free to roam around the property. The river at the buttom is delightful but please take precautions not to fall off the narrow beach. There is a stone path leading all the way down to the river, these are at the extreme right edge of our property.

CHURCH SERVICES

The Catholic Church in La Merced offers services on Sunday at 8am, 10am and 12m and also on religious holidays such as Christmas Eve (midnight mass)
There is a Baptist Church near the villa as well.

HOT SPRINGS A kilometer away.

La Merced is known for it's hot springs... there is a complex with large pools one kilometer away from the villa, in the village, you can actually walk to them taking the road to the left and when it opens to a Y taking to the right and to the end of it. They are called TERMAS DE LA MERCED. It cost $5 per person and BEST to go at 6am when the water has been freshly changed and there are no people around!

The best shopping area for you is San Luis Mall, barely 15 minutes away, they have just about everything you need to make yourself comfortable:

Excellent ice cream and desserts in the Northeast corner of the park and next to it, Italian fare.

We are members of Los Chillos Club where you can enjoy unlimited golf, their fee varies and we will need to check, you can bring your own golf clubs or rent them from this club.

NEARBY TOURS
Sangolquí.- This lovely, bustling market town is 15-20 minutes away. To get there, take the route to San Rafael and as you approach the town, and the main intersection, make a left right after the bridge because you cannot make the turn at the light. At the end of the street, make a right that will take you to the light on the main road, make a left and continue straight. You will see the San Luis Mall on your left side, follow the traffic which veers to the right and then to the left at the light. Continue on the road and soon you will see the town. --Alangasí .- This town is not so attractive, but there are many festivals celebrated here where you can see very traditional customs and costumes. Christmas brings the pase del Niño where the people that have made a nativity scene will take the baby Jesus to church for a mass before they put the set away. These are done with angels, Mary and Joseph, etc. Holy week is one of the main celebrations as well with very tall bonnets and devils, angels and cucuruchos. The celebrations take a whole week in which the whole passion is reenacted. Corpus Christi is another one when the people ride horses in costumes and masks, giants and dancers.

Pintag.- The scenery is lovely, this is a very agricultural town and once a year you can enjoy the toros de pueblo (village bull fights) where everyone jumps in. There is a wet market on Saturdays.

Antisana Mountain.- This is a great ride, close to the villa and up to the base of this lovely mountain, full of birds, rabbits, deer and splendid lakes where sometimes you can fish wild trout.

- "After traveling through airports and by car for over 24 hours we arrive at this property only to learn that it had been double booked. one trough VRBO and another through a competitor. We tried to make contact with the host and local property manager but with the little that could be translated we were told that they were unaware that the property was on VRBO and said they didn't know what that was. After spending 45 plus minutes with a VRBO representative being charged .25 per minute for the phone call the owner or property manager in the US was reached and he proceeded to help us find a place with a neighbor. This person was very nice and accommodating but the unit was not furnished or prepared as a short-term rental. We had to stay out for several hours while it was cleaned, did not have hot water for one and a half days, had a live scorpion in our beach towels and had none of the usual essentials as a short-term rental, e.g. soap, basic cooking spices, laundry... Again, this neighbor did a great job with what was available, but it lacked the essentials that we were accustomed to in a VRBO. The owner said they did not know they were on VRBO, so they will probably not receive this and VRBO said that we were not charged but I do not see a refund on my card so..."
