Donner Lake's West End Beach is a two-minute walk away offering family beach play, swimming, and pickleball. Historic Downtown Truckee is 10-minutes away to access restaurants, boutique shopping, and town events and nightlife. Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, Donner Ski Ranch, and Donner Memorial State Park are less than 10-minute drive. Soda Spring Ski Area and Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Area are 15-minutes away. Palisades (formerly Squaw) and Northstar Ski Resorts are 20-minutes. Donner Memorial State Park is just down the road and offers a historical museum, hiking and snowshoe trails, and exceptional mountain biking. Legendary Lake Tahoe is a 25-minute drive!

There is no AC in most homes in Tahoe. To keep the property cool, open the windows and sliders at night to let cool air in, then close the windows, doors and blinds when you leave for the day.Please remember that living in the mountains and staying in a private home means that there are some things we cannot control. For example, weather and harsh conditions have knocked out Wifi and the power before. While these instances are rare, we please ask that you are patient as these are things that we unfortunately cannot control. While we will try to accommodate all requests, we handle refunds for situations like this (power outages, appliances breaking, etc.) on a case by case basis.

PLEASE NOTE: The Town of Truckee has implemented new short-term rental guidelines that limit the number of guests to 2 per bedroom. Since the cabin has three bedrooms, plus the sleeping loft, that limits the number of guests allowed. However, the ordinance does allow for the addition of 2 children aged 12 and younger, which brings the total number of guests allowed to 8.

Enjoy the views of beautiful Donner Lake and Schallenberger Ridge in the Central Sierra Nevada Range from our cozy cabin's large deck or front windows. Our cabin is located in the middle of snow country. Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Donner Ski Ranch, Sugar Bowl, Royal Gorge and Tahoe Donner are all within 15-20 minutes from our door. Ice fishing up the hill at Prosser Lake. Donner State Park, which is just a mile and a half from us at the end of the lake, has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
As our cabin has direct access to the lake; in summer, fish or swim off the dock in front of us, enjoy the many water sports possible on the lake, or take a 20 minute ride over to North Tahoe to enjoy the 'big lake' on the mountain. There are 7 golf courses within 15-18 minute drive, historic Truckee and the Transcontinental Railroad to explore. Rock climbing, hiking, shopping, live music /concerts, mountain biking in the area, are all possibilities. Gambling/Casinos in Reno about 35 minutes up Interstate 80.
Our cabin is approximately 1400 square feet in size with space for two cars to park right by the back door. The main entrance to the cabin is from the back. As you enter, you have the kitchen on your right and a door into the main level bedroom and bathroom on your left. This bedroom has a queen bed and the bathroom has a tub/shower combination. Beyond the eating bar is the living area with an 8 foot dining table on one side and a couch and loveseat facing the fireplace on the other. Downstairs there are two bedrooms and a small bath. One bedroom has two twins and the other bedroom has a queen bed. From the downstairs hallway, you can go into another hallway that has a washer and dryer, a wood room that houses the wood for the fireplace and a door to the outside to take steps down to the road and lake. The loft is open to the main level and has 4 twin beds. Three of these beds are very close to each other (best for kids). There is another parking pad at lake level for one car.

Only suggestion is to anchor furniture and put child locks on window upstairs , it was hot and we couldn’t open it for safety reasons. This cabin is perfect for multiple families who want to have a great get-away together. It is not set up for large groups of adults. The two story chalet features four bedrooms and enough beds to sleep up to 10 people. The large deck also has a hot tub to help you relax at the end of your day. The location in Tahoe Donner puts you right in the center of both winter and summer activities, but is also located on a quiet, forested street that provides a relaxing place to stay.

Tahoe Donner is a highly desirable, year-round mountain community located in the historic town of Truckee. The area is easily accessible from Highway 80, and just 35 miles from Reno and 100 miles from Sacramento. You can find excellent casual and fine dining as well as unique specialty shops in old town Truckee, which is just minutes away. Groceries, a hardware store, cafes, etc. are also just minutes away.

Tahoe Donner has one of the best ski resorts for young skiers and people just learning to ski. Within minutes are 10 other ski resorts including Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, and Northstar. If cross country skiing is your winter sport, Tahoe Donner has one of California's largest x-country ski parks, and was recently named the third best in the country. Numerous trails for snow shoeing and hills for sledding are located right in Tahoe Donner.

And when the snow melts, break out the golf clubs, mountain bikes, and river rafts. Miles of hiking trails, adventure parks, and miniature golf courses supply endless hours of fun for the whole family.

We are a no smoking cabin. If you are a smoker or plan to travel with smokers, this is not the property for you. . We do allow families that are looking to create special memories together. We do not allow pets due to previous experiences that resulted in damage to our property.

He stayed there until our son was released from the hospital and able to come home. Their kindness helped to alleviate much stress during a really difficult time. And we can never repay them for that."

During winter months, the stairs from parking to walkway can be slippery and covered in snow. There is an incline from the parking area to the cabin, so please use caution.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

A Home with Heart

As a child, I spent winters skiing and sledding in these mountains, and I fell in love with the crisp air and peaceful pine forests. Years later, my wife and I discovered Tahoe Donner while driving home from Reno — and instantly knew this was where we wanted to build family memories.

In 2004, we made that dream a reality and purchased this cabin we now call Baden’s Best. Over the years, we’ve poured our hearts into decorating and updating it to feel like home — adding the back deck and hot tub, upgrading furnishings, and creating a space where guests can relax, laugh, and make lasting memories.

We’re proud to share our mountain home with you and hope you enjoy it as much as our family has for the past two decades.

Baden’s Best was created to be both welcoming and secure. For your comfort and safety, the property includes discreet exterior security cameras located at the front entrance and driveway area. These cameras monitor outdoor access points only and do not face any private or interior spaces, ensuring complete guest privacy while providing peace of mind during your stay.
