This authentic wilderness cabin offers a true off-grid experience. While there's no running water or flush toilet, we provide a rainwater tank for washing and a practical camping shower (heat water on the stove for warm showers). Our eco-friendly composting toilet "Kompie" offers scenic views, and the fully equipped kitchen includes a wash basin. Please bring drinking water (5L per person recommended). Though rustic, all facilities are clean, well-maintained, and designed for a comfortable wilderness experience.

The space
The Whitehouse is a unique luxury eco-cabin at Montevue Nature Farm in the Karoo, that will immediately steal your heart. Located out of sight and sound of any other houses or roads, it feels totally secluded in unspoiled nature, but it's located only 12 minutes from the historic Montagu town and the famous Route 62. (The farm is less than 2.5hrs from Cape Town)

The Whitehouse is a very special, beautifully decorated and well designed house, that feels much bigger than it is, offering all the luxury and amenities you need to still have a sense of luxury while being alone in the mountains.

Here you can feel totally at peace, surrounded by nature, 360 views and only the sounds of the birds and the breeze, while relaxing in the hot tub gazing at the stars at night. This truly is what dreams are made of.

If you want to take a break from relaxing at the house with its fire pit, hot tub and deck with 360 views - there are lots more to see and do at Montevue. You have full access to the entire 1050 ha of unspoiled mountain paradise. The hills, valleys and "kloof" beg you to explore them and discover the illusive game that roam these hills, the beautiful look out points and scarce Karoo flora.

A normal car is fine for accessing the farm and the accommodation, but if you have a 4x4, you can explore the 15 kms of 4x4 jeep track that wind through the farm . Take on "Dead man's pass" for the most beautiful views and drive through Kudu's Kloof searching for game. Don't have a 4x4? These roads are also perfect for hiking at your own pace, or take them on with your Mountain bike. Go picnic in the veld and explore!

Montevue is perfect for hiking (follow the roads, or explore your own trails), MTB, bird watching, meditating, game viewing (naturally occurring game like Kudu, Mountain Reedbuck, Duikers, Steenbok etc.), mountain climbing, swimming in the dam and star gazing.

Note that at Montevue we want to take you away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and all its stress, which includes technology. Therefor, we have no phone signal near The Whitehouse. We hope that you can take a break from phones and internet to really appreciate nature as it was supposed to be. (Need to urgently call someone, or upload your instagram pics? You can find signal just 5 mins from the farm on the way to Montagu, or drive (or hike) up to top of our Mountain, "Signal Hill", behind the Wood Cabin, if you have a 4x4. There is good signal there.)

Its an off-grid house, that works with Solar power and gas. The solar power is strong enough to keep the fridge and lights running all day, short microwave sessions and also to charge phones or cameras. Unfortunately no heated elements such as straighteners or hairdryers. Its a bad hair don't care kinda place :)

"Cabine Des Anges" wood cabin, is located on a secluded 1050ha Klein Karoo nature farm, just 2.5hrs from Cape Town, outside Montagu near Route 62. It has breathtaking 360 degree views all around, due to its large windows and stacking doors.

This unit sleeps a total of 6 adults. (2 extra children can come for free):
– The loft area has 2 Double Beds, perfect for a family with kids, and a full bathroom with bath overlooking the mountains.

-The large open plan living room and kitchen feels spacious and luxurious, and is well equipped. There is 1 extra pull out couch that sleeps 2 extra people or children.

-The downstairs flatlet contains 1 double bed, and 1 pull out couch, perfect for a small family. The flatlet also has a full bathroom with a shower.

-There is also an Outside Shower and Outside Toilet (Loo with a view!) for the adventurous.

This eco-friendly house is 100% off grid, with borehole water (bring fresh water yourself), hot water from a gas geyser, and electricity from solar power. There is NO phone or internet signal at the house. There is a gas oven and stove and microwave for all cooking needs, electric plugs to charge phones or use other small appliances. (No appliances with elements like hair dryers etc.) You will also find a Smart TV with a USB full of pre-loaded movies, or you can cast downloaded content from your phone. (unfortunately no DSTV or other live channels). We believe that living without wi-fi and phone signal is medicine for the soul.

(For phone signal you can walk up (or drive up if you have 4×4) a few hundred meters behind the house up the mountain “Signal Hill” where there is good signal, or just 5 minutes’ drive toward Montagu on the main road.)

The house also has other things to keep you busy like a small collection of books, cards and board games, a bow and arrows, a slingshot, and some toys for children. We usually also usually have our Telescope there, for you to view the moon, planets or stars or look for game. (All used at own risk. Damages or losses to our property will be for your charge.)

Guest access
You have the entire 3-storey wood cabin for yourself. You also have full access to the entire 1050 nature farm, and can use all its 4x4 routes, mtb and hiking trails. You are also welcome to picnic in the veld and braai at our main pond, Kaalbas Dam, where you can swim, and kajak, and fish for tilapia. (depending on the water level.)
