We live on a FARM, it is 10km from town a quick 5/10minute drive- you are more than welcome to walk around where every you want - we have 5 friendly dogs on the property - Dodge,Sadie and Diesel, Duke and Bella, who will probably want to join you. We live in the Klein Karoo- it is VERY HOT and VERY DRY as we have a shortage of water .

The upstairs balcony offers wonderful views of the mountains and is the ideal place to read a book or relax with a glass of wine while watching the sunset. And if you are a bird lover, don't forget your bird book.

We also have a garden studio on the property that can be booked in addition to the cottage when available.

A newly-built, immaculate & well-furnished self-contained annexe to the main house, with mountain views & separate entrance. Perfectly positioned in a quiet and picturesque cul de sac, yet within easy walking distance of restaurants & pubs, shops, tourist office & attractions, nature walks/hikes, mountain climbing. Suited to single guests or couples who want either (or both!) a quiet, relaxed get-away or an adventurous yet comfortable experience in our gorgeous countryside town.

The annex comes with a fully equipped kitchenette; a comfortable living room with TV/DVD player (and 50+ popular DVDs to choose from) as well as NETFLIX and free WIFI, a dining table, writing desk, sofa and armchairs and double-doors that lead you to a private garden and secluded patio table and chairs for outdoor relaxation or meals; the bedroom has a queen-size bed, reading lamp, electric blanket (for winter) and window seat for extra sunshine; and the bathroom comes with a shower, basin, mirrors and loo. A ceiling fan in the living room and bedroom make our hot summer days/nights more comfortable, and a heater and electric-blanket are provided in winter. BBQ facilities are also available on request. The focus here is on comfort and privacy.

Your entire suite offers everything you need: separate entrance, privacy, comfort, a private patio in a pretty garden (or use of the veranda of the main house if you're open to your hosts walking past) and off-street parking. For quiet nights in, we offer a library of good DVDs as well as BBQ facilities; and for active days, we offer brochures/info on the local tourist attractions & events (and the Tourist Office is literally just around the corner). My husband, Charles, is also willing to accompany you (if needed) on your kloof/mountain walks or hikes, and Muscadel/wine tasting tours if you don't want to drink-'n-drive (please book this in advance). Parking is off-road and secure, but if you're especially worried about your car and belongings, then parking behind locked gates is available on request. And for the really active, you can borrow our bicycles (one lady's bike, two men's bikes).

Sadly, we don't provide accommodation for those with pets, children/babies, and/or those with a need to smoke indoors. We live in a beautiful and quiet part of Montagu where we value the sound of owls, frogs, cicadas, birds etc. You'll like it, too!

PALE CHANTING Cottage faces an area of typical Klein Karoo plain and a mountain backdrop. This plain is the hunting ground of our resident Pale Chanting Goshawks, and they are readily observed from the stoep (patio).

The delightfully quaint kitchen is fully equipped and the original huge fireplace makes the lounge/dining area very cosy. The indoor bathroom, which contains a toilet, shower and basin, leads off the main bedroom (i.e. guests in the 2nd bedroom will need to enter the indoor bathroom via the main bedroom), but the cottage also has a full outdoor bathroom that includes a shower and bath-tub with spectacular views.

Other outdoor features include a comfortable patio, braai (barbecue), fire pit and a 4-person wood-fired barrel hot-tub in which to soak and take in the 360 degree mountain views. Wood for the braai and hot-tub is provided at no extra charge.

Alpaca Farm Estate is a farm holding with animals living on the Estate (Alpacas, donkeys and sheep). The property is nestled between a nursery and a horse farm, making for picturesque scene. Guests can expect to wake up in the morning to the ordinary early morning animal voices, reminding you that you're in nature. Expect flies if food or used dishes is left uncovered.

Mosquitos at night can be a pain, we advise use of mosquito repellent. Rest assured, the Western Cape mosquito is harmless.

The cottages are built out of stone that was sorted and collected from farms outside Montagu and was carefully designed and built by Andrew and Elaine Hare.
Each 46-square meter cottage is very private and built between the olive trees and has its own dip pool for those hot Karoo days. All three cottages are entirely built from locally sourced stone, offering guests a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, hot inside and outside shower, percale linen and towels, basic locally produced soaps and creams, hair drier, ceiling fan, indoor fireplace, outside braai, sun loungers, sun umbrella for those wonderful hot summer days and a beautiful private natural plunge pool.
Each cottage contains a king-size bed made up with percale linen. The beds can be made up as twin beds upon request. Each cottage has both an indoor and an outdoor hot and cold shower. Locally produced soaps and creams, a shower cap, a vanity kit and a hairdryer are provided.
Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen. Gas oven and stove to allow the cottage to be as off-grid as much as possible (no microwave). Extra virgin olive oil from the farm, olives, starter tea, coffee and sugar are supplied as well as free range eggs and homemade rusks.
Each cottage has a ceiling fan, and for the cold winters, each cottage has a fireplace for heating as well as an electric blanket and a gas heater. Free limited Wi-Fi is available. Outside you will find a braai area and sun lounges, an umbrella and seating on the veranda. Each cottage has a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. Parking is available at each cottage on the property.

Guest access
Full access to all of the farm area. A hand-packed stone barn and animal kraal, a thriving vegetable garden and natural stone swimming pools all adds to its character. It is home to chickens and sheep, and even a tamed guinea fowl or two.
Olive Stone Farm produces its own delicious olive oil, bottled olives, vegetables (guests are welcome to make use of the vegetable and salad garden) and proper free-range eggs. In autumn the Mission and Frantoio olives are hand-picked and pressed to produce oil that is soft on the palate and sweet to the taste.

Other things to note
Shops, delicatessens, bakeries, cafes, supermarkets and restaurants are all within walking distance of the cottages. These cottages are a place to relax, read your books, play some board games, suntan, or partake in the many hikes that Montagu has to offer. Guests can be accommodated on the farm in either Olive Cottage (super king or twin bed), Stone Cottage (king or twin bed), or Farm cottage (super king or twin bed). All rooms are non smoking but you are welcome to smoke on the patio. Credit card facilities available. Children only allowed with prior arrangement. Well behaved pets allowed at owner’s discretion
