The Loft cottage is a delightful, cosy cottage fully equipped with all modern amenities, located in leafy Eastcliff only 5 minutes walk from the cliff path, and ten minutes walk from the village. There is parking for one sub-compact car on site, but the parking is very tight, and most guests prefer to park in street.

Kaleidoscope Cottage is the perfect spot to relax in privacy. It has lovely indoor outdoor lifestyle and flow between the cottage and the big secluded patio. It has a separate entrance and parking space. It was featured in Top Billing magazine and television for its "exotic, traditional and modern"style and "striking architectural detail seen from both the interior and exterior". The cottage boasts a fully equipped lounge and kitchenette, separate bedroom with two 3/4 beds and a private bathroom. It has its own private patio with portable braai facilities and seating overlooking the 25 metre pool and gardens. It has free wifi and full bouquet of DSTV television channels. In winter the underfloor heating(please see other items to note) indoor wood stove and open fires create a cosy warm space.

De Werf is in the Hemel en Aarde Valley - literally "Heaven on Earth". It sleeps 6 - large en suite bedroom (king bed or 2 singles) upstairs + a smaller bedroom downstairs (1 outside bedroom en suite on request). Fully equipped kitchen - dishwasher + gas hob opens onto the dining/lounge. Guests relax on the long shady patio with stunning views across to the mountains. A small private swimming pool is perfect for late drinks as the sun sets over the mountains. A birdwatchers paradise.

The space
De Werf is in the heart of a special wine growing region with many wine farms and restaurants close by. The whale watching town of Hermanus is only short 20 minute drive - as are many shops and other conveniences. The area is a mountain bikers paradise and is also special for walking along the mountain slopes.

The entire cottage, patio, outdoor barbecue and private plunge pool. There is also a wonderful hot water shower outside. The cottage is on an area of river wetlands with beautiful walks on the property along upper reaches of the Onrus River.

Other things to note
We have a closed combustion fire place in the lounge - easy to use but instructions are in the guest manual. There are also “wind blinds”, simply select the required panel, remove the pin and lower the panel using a manual winder, replace the pin to hold in place. There are also external security beams for when you have gone to bed, again instructions are in the house.

Sometimes in summer, flies can be a pest. We have installed a “RoboSol” completely non toxic, battery operated aerosol dispenser. It is above the extractor fan and is set for a spray every 30 mins. It is safe around kids, food and pets. Details of the spray are in the guest lever arch file. Please switch off or put outside if you prefer!

“Loadshedding” or power outages are sadly unpredictable but for schedule info our area is called Hemel en Aarde 3 on loadshedding apps. We have a UPS which keeps the WiFi running plus rechargeable torches, candles and 3 lightbulbs which simply need the switch to be turned off and on to activate. There is a gas cooker and a kettle to use on the gas.

We have a pool net which is easily hooked into place and we suggest this is used when small children (or pets) are around. The pool (we call it gin pond) has a wide seating area around the perimeter and the depth in the middle is only waist high for an adult, but taking care with kids is always a good idea.

To enjoy the birds, please feel free to top up the feeders with seed and "pink juice" (in the fridge). Open the double lounge doors (and security door) to maximize the inside/outside flow. We have security doors on the front and back doors.

In summer the double front doors open up to connect the generous entertainment area outside with the amenities inside, like the sassy red drinks fridge that’s conveniently placed close to the entrance.

The modern soundbar has Bluetooth capabilities for you to stream your favourite background music and the complimentary Wi-Fi covers the whole house (unless there’s load shedding).

In winter you can laze in the cosy lounge nook with a book while watching the birds in the garden from the large windowpanes overlooking the garden.

The galley kitchen is compact yet completely equipped for light holiday cooking. It was recently upgraded and now has a newly installed four-plate Bosch gas hob, a large fridge, a 5,5 L Kenwood air fryer, a 19 L microwave and glassware, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.

The downstairs powder room is cleverly hidden behind a large, mirrored door.

• Mountain bedroom
This bedroom leads off the lounge/dining area and has an en suite shower with painted bare-brick walls. The queen-sized bed is very comfortable. Two windows overlook the garden which makes this the quietest, most private bedroom in the house.

The room is decorated with African-themed original art with a table for your laptop or suitcase, a coat-stand with hangers, and A-frame shelves for clothes.

• Garden bedroom
Next to the kitchen, you step into the largest bedroom with windows and a double sliding door onto the garden. The ultra-comfortable queen-sized mattress with a pillow top offers a good night's sleep. The en suite shower has frosted windows that open up onto the garden alley for a unique outdoor feel.

This room has a desk overlooking the garden, a coat-stand with hangers and a shelf for clothes.

There is a 32" smart TV mounted against a wall to watch your favourite series from bed. Guests have to use their own logins to access content providers like Netflix.

UPSTAIRS
The loft area is open plan with screens that separate areas and provide privacy. The atrium adds to the airy openness and the creaking floors attest to the built-by-hand legacy that shaped this home.

• Bedroom with a view
The loft has another queen-sized bed positioned next to windows covered by sheer white sheets that billow in the breeze when the doors are open to give an Out-of-Africa feel to the space. These can be tied to the side to open up the view of trees outside and the garden below. This bed also has a mosquito net to add to the romance.

The table opposite the bed can be used as a desk. The coat-stand and a cabinet with shelves provide space for clothes.

The laptop safe is opposite the bed. The code is 7075.

• Bath with a view
One of the luxurious features of this house is the deep Victorian bathtub positioned under the roof skylight. It’s perfect for soaking away the cares of life while dreaming of the next day’s adventures.

The WC is conveniently positioned next to it.

• Views near the TV
Although most guests visit the Overberg for outdoor activities, the 43" smart TV offers YouTube and Netflix with your own login. There is also a large collection of DVDs in many genres, including animations for the little ones.

There is enough seating on two settees and directors’ chairs around a glass table. The double doors open inwards to give a breath-taking view of the mountain ridges above Onrus.

If it gets a little chilly in winter, you can sit in front of the gas heater while getting lost in a work of fiction, or poetry or paging through any of the coffee table books from the well-stocked library.

OUTSIDE AREA
Sit outside around the fire pit (or as locals call it, the ‘braai’) with your friends and family – even the furry ones as the large yard is completely enclosed to offer a safe space for kids and dogs to play.

Breathe in the early morning champagne air as you sit on the garden bench crafted from wattle battens (intrusive foreign vegetation cleared from the area to re-invigorate indigenous fynbos). Watch dragonflies, butterflies, birds, and frogs as they visit the garden and small lotus pond.

Enjoy the view of the nearby Cape Fold Mountain ridge and look out for the African Harrier-hawk pair as they circle in the blue skies above. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the local Eagle-owl that frequents this countryside suburb.

We opted for an open living space where the kitchen and living room is one, allowing for extra special family time. This space spills out onto the terrace where you can enjoy a meal or glass of wine under a gorgeous pepper tree. The small yard is fenced, ideal for young children.

Features and amenities include an indoor braai (BBQ), a SMEG oven and a Nespresso machine.

The main bedroom is located downstairs across from the bathroom. The bedroom is small and intimate with built in cupboards.

The cottage has one bathroom with shower, loo and basin.

A small staircase leads to the loft, again open plan. Here you will find a Queen size bed and two single beds. Our recommendation is that the cottage is ideal for 4 guests, however we will allow up to 5 guests if there are children (hence the extra single bed).

The loft also sports a dedicated work space for guests wanting to work remotely. French doors lead to a balcony overlooking the beautiful mountains of Onrus.

We are always available and live just up the road. We will always try our very best to meet and greet guests in person upon arrival and again to see them off when departing. We enjoy interacting with guests, but respect their time and privacy.

The space
The Cottage comfortably sleeps up to 8 people max.
Main bedroom downstairs with double bed and writing desk. Upstairs in the loft you will find a 2nd private bedroomwith 1 double bed and 1 single bed. Also in the open loft is a separate sitting area overlooking the sea, perfect for reading a book or playing a game of cards, as well as additional dorm-style accommodation consisting of 3 single beds.
All bedding is provided.
The house has 3 bathrooms.
2 Downstairs: One with a bath basin and toilet and a bathroom with shower, toilet and basin
Upstairs: Bathroom with toilet and basin.

The lounge is comfortably furnished, incl. Full satellite TV (DSTV - no need to bring your own card), DVD Player, Radio/CD player.
The dining room table sits 6-8 guests. Lovely sea views throughout the ground floor.

Cosy built-in barbecue area behind the main house. Facilities include a patio area with picnic bench, built-in BBQ & seating, plus lovely mountain views.

Guest will have access to the whole house, private use of the barbecue area, front patio and garden.

Parking is available in the shared driveway.

There is a beautiful 4km coastal pathway in front of the house, known as the Vermont Trail. Lavender Cottage is situated roughly in its middle. Walking on the trail, you'll pass milkwoods, tidal pools and quiet beaches, and might spot a few whales along the way.

Children are very welcome. We do supply a travel cot on request but please note that cot linen is not provided.

Cape Town is just over an hours drive. Ideal for day trips to Stellenbosch winelands.

This comfortable and elegant free standing beach house has been newly fitted out with high quality furniture.You just have a 5 minute walk to the small idyllic beach of Breakfast Bay or you can choose to walk along the costal cliff path and enjoy the spectacular view.
Whale watching is a popular pastime between July and November. You can observe these beautiful creatures from the coastal path. You don´t get that everywhere!
For those who like to play golf, the Hermanus Golf Course and the international Golf Course on the Arabella Estate are both within a 10 minute drive.
Numerous vineyards in the vicinity of Hermanus open their doors for wine tastings and serve excellent high quality food. The turn off to the Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Route is at the town entrance of Hermanus. Here you will find the award winning vineyards of Creation, Hemilton Russel and Burchard Finlayson.
There is even something for the kids. Wonderful farms with small animals, mini-petting zoos, playgrounds and organized picnics can be visited in nearby towns.
A small idyllic beach is just 200 meters away from the house, the larger Onrus-Beach is only 4 kilometers away and the wide and milelong dream beach"Grotto Beach" is just a 15 minute drive away.

The space
The whales are back. First whale spotted on 1 May 2020. The Beach house is prime as it is situated on the front row, of the beach front, and one just walks in a few minutes to Grotto Beach the famous Blue flag beach, as well as Voelklip and Cove beaches.Watch the whales and dolphins frolicking from the comfort of the cottage patio. The famous cliff path is also right in front of the cottage. Sea views are spectacular , listen to the break of the waves all day and night, divine fresh champagne sea air . Heavenly fresh seafood, restaurants,shopping malls, boat trips, wine tasting, hiking, cycling....so so much to do and to see . Do book boat trips in advance.

The entire house is for your own and private use. 2 bedrooms and 2 en suite bathrooms, uncapped wifi, DSTV ,Netflix, full kitchen, lounge, patio lounge and many more.
