It was uniquely designed by architect, Raymond Bouma. Glass panes below the ceiling lets in lots of natural light. It is both cozy and spacious with a maintained garden.
It is close to The University of Stellenbosch, High Schools & Mediclinic.
A extra single bed is provided.

The cottage is designed in the typical Modernist style with clerestory windows which allow for a lot of light. It is furnished in an eclectic style with high quality bedding and a very comfortable bed. It has a lounge with an open plan kitchen and a separate bedroom with own door.
When you book for 3 guests, there is a single bed & extra length mattress, with bedding & a towel in the living room area. Bedding and towels will be provided for the single bed / 3rd person. Pls inquire before booking this. The bathroom has a huge walk-in shower with modern glass door. There is a small garden outside with some grass also to enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine.

Guest access
The cottage is complete detached from the main house with its own street entrance and secure parking behind a sliding gate. It is very private with no interaction with the host unless required. Guests have free access to that part of the property.

The proximity of Laanrust cottage to downtown Stellenbosch, the University campus and Coetzenburg sports grounds makes it the ideal location for visitors. You can walk, run or cycle straight out of your own gate into the mountains, and the many restaurants and coffee shops in town are just a 10-minute stroll next to the Eersteriver away. The cottage has wifi and Netflix, DSTV, an air conditioner and safe parking inside. Also stand-by power during load-shedding for wifi and TV.

The space
Laanrust is on the Eersteriver and completely private. It has one bedroom, one bathroom, a living area and private patio. Guests have secure parking right next to the cottage, and the cottage is serviced every Monday and Thursday. the bed is queen size, extra length.

Owl cottage is newly renovated and eclectically decorated in a mix of old and new. It is a large free standing private one bedroom cottage, which features an open plan fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge, leading onto a covered patio and braai in an enclosed garden with mountain views. Situated on a boutique wine farm, specialising in sparkling wines. REST @ CHABIVIN is privately situated in-between vineyards and a natural eucalyptus forest. The whole farm is well secured with remote access only for residents and guests. Relax under die gigantic trees on the sofas or sit along the fire, while looking on the Stellenbosch Mountains. Inside you have 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with 2 singles that could also be combined together. Wisteria Family Cottage is a 2-bedroom cottage situated on San Gabriel Homestead. Being part of the stables of the old farm, this cottage offers the perfect breakaway for a family of 4. The bathrooms are both fitted with showers. A private, covered patio with braai facilities, allows for a relaxed evening outside during the summer.

The space
This eclectic, high ceilinged cottage has 2 bedrooms en suite with showers. Each open directly onto a large farm style stoep surrounding and overlooking the succulent garden. The well-equipped and spacious open-plan kitchen opens onto its own little terrace. The lounge has its own fireplace. Both the outdoor and indoor dining areas are conducive to sumptuous lunches or dinners. The outdoor private braai area is perfect for an alfresco dinner on the veranda.

There are 6 other cottages as well as a Manor House on the farm, all built in the traditional Cape Dutch style. Wisteria Family Cottage is a freestanding cottage and offers privacy from the other cottages. The farm offers open lawns, two pools, a dam, vast vistas of the Helderberg mountain, natural habitat with birdlife as well as farm animals.

Other things to note
San Gabriel is a real farm with real sheep, ducks, turkeys and chickens. It also has owls, fish eagles, pheasants and guineafowl. It has vast lawns, rose gardens and a little forest.

Our cottages are ancient and endearing with creaky floors and other perfect imperfections which we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.

Vineyard Family Cottage is situated on the historic farm, San Gabriel Homestead, which dates to 1756. The cottage which was part of the original slave quarters was later converted to a summer cottage for guests from all over Europe. The renovated cottage, with its old world charm still intact, is the perfect breakaway for family or friends who enjoy farm life and the outdoors.

The space
San Gabriel's Vineyard Cottage is part of the heritage of the Cape. The cottage has an outdoor dining area on the veranda overlooking the historical rose garden and ancient fountain. The comfortable vintage rooms are cool in summer, cozy in winter and just a step away from the pool.

There are 6 other cottages as well as a Manor House on the farm, all built in the traditional Cape Dutch style. Vineyard Family Cottage has 2 en suite bedrooms but can also be connected to Vineyard Quarters, the cottage next door, should you require an extra en suite bedroom. We can offer a Homestead Continental Breakfast in the Food Studio should you wish to book at an additional charge of R150 per person. Renier also hosts a pizza night every Friday evening that you are welcome to book should you be staying with us over the weekend. Our farmshop is open daily for inhouse guests and is stocked with snacks and beautiful homeware.

San Gabriel is a farm and immersed in nature. There will be farm sounds and insects around. There is Peaceful Sleep in your cottage to keep the insects away.

Our cottages are old and have creaky floors and little imperfections, but that's what makes them special and it is also the part our guests love the most.

To counteract the current power issues in our country we do have a solar system which ensures that the basic amenities in your cottage ie the microwave, kettle, fridge and room lights work at all times.

As you approach our cottage, you'll find that the road leading to it is primarily a dirt road. Rest assured, the road is in good condition, If you have a regular car, you can still reach our home.

For your utmost convenience during your stay, we highly recommend bringing your own car. This way, you can explore the surrounding areas with ease and flexibility. While Uber is available, please note that it might take some time for them to reach our location, and the farm roads can be a bit challenging for navigation, leading to occasional difficulties for Uber drivers.

Farm Experience
Fransmanskraal is a working farm that produces wine, citrus, plums, and blueberries, offering guests an authentic farm-living experience. Please note that occasionally you may hear farm vehicles or see people working in the vineyards, especially during harvest time and on weekdays. However, weekends are generally quiet, with no farm activities taking place.

Housekeeping is provided on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:00 AM.

If you would like additional cleaning sessions, they are available at R350.00 per session. Please let us know in advance so we can arrange this for you.
