The Bontebok National Park is just outside town. It is the smallest National Park . The park is part of the Cape Floristic Region, which is a World Heritage site.

You can visit the Wildebraam Berry Estate for Liqour Tasting, and berry picking when in season.

The Southernmost Tip of Africa, L’Aghulas is 1 hour and 20 minutes away, you can also visit Waenhuiskrans and the Shipwreck Museum on your way back in Bredasdorp.

Witsand is a small coastal town at the mouth of the Breede River. It is a good fishing area and is widely considered to be the whale nursery of the South African coastline, only a 55 minutes drive, something you will enjoy!

Set in the heart of Swellendam, surrounded by the magnificent Langeberg mountains, these family friendly self catering cottages are perfect if you are looking for a cosy stay in Swellendam. Enjoy the shared outdoor swimming pool and outdoor area to cool off on hot days and hot tub in cooler nights. 5min from the town you can walk to the numerous delis and restaurants. Marloth Nature Reserve for hiking is 5 mins drive. Bontebok Park for game viewing, cycling and nature walks is 10 mins.

The space
LANTERN offers two comfortable self-catering cottages. Thatch Cottage offers a large open plan living, kitchenette and dining area, fully equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. There is a large king size bed with mosquito net and a single bed in the main living area. Ensuite bathroom with and shower.
Fast fibre Wifi is provided free for all of the guests and parking is right beside your cottage.
Big trampoline with safety net will keep your children busy and they most welcome to cuddle our two cats, who is freely exploring the garden.
We do have a hot tub in the garden which keeps you warm during colder days and nights.
Hot tub is for private use for thathed cottage guests. But you will need to be familiar with preparation or read the guidelines well on how to use it. if we are on the property and have enough time, we will be happy to prepare the hot tub for you (for extra fee of R200) with at least 5 hours of notice or you can prepare it your self of no cost. In case we are away you will have clear instructions on how to prepare it your self.
Our units are privately located in a tree and bird-filled garden with a sparkling swimming pool, BBQ area and the tranquility of the countryside. This area is shared with other guests from our Karoo cottage. LANTERN is 800m from the town centre and is surrounded by restaurants, museums, golf, hiking and biking trails, Bontebok and Marloth Nature Reserves. If you feel like driving to the sea side then you can reach within one hour beautiful sandy beaches of De Hoop and Witsand.

Bedroom: King size bed with electric warm blanket and hot water bottles to keep you even more cozy in the winter. In the summer there is a fan in the bedroom to keep you cool. There is a sliding door which you can open up so that you can take in the countryside fresh air. Plenty of cupboard space.

Rosehaven Cottage offers a truly tranquil escape, with thoughtfully designed spaces that invite you to relax and reconnect. The main bedroom, with its king-sized bed and large sash window overlooking the lush garden (where you might spot some of the many birds!), is the perfect spot for leisurely morning lie-ins. The second bedroom also overlooks the garden, with a charming Art Deco-style double bed. A third double bedroom overlooks a peaceful, verdant courtyard, while the fourth bedroom, located in an adjoining flatlet with a private entrance and en-suite walk-in shower, offers two comfortable single beds. All bedrooms have high-quality linens, ensuring a restful night's sleep.

The bathroom has been completely redone, featuring modern tiling and fittings. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the full bath with a shower overhead, perhaps using some of our home-made bath salts.

The inviting living room is designed for entertainment and relaxation, complete with a TV and access to several streaming services. The living room opens up to a charming, tranquil garden courtyard, creating a seamless inside-outside flow that enhances Rosehaven's charm.

Gather around the comfortable six-seater dining table, which opens out onto a large stoep. Here, guests can relax on the generous day bed, or enjoy a meal outside. The view from the stoep is spectacular - from the densely treed and rose-filled garden, stretching over the town to distant wheatfields. You might even spot some of the many birds visiting the garden's bird feeder (sugar syrup supplied for refills).

A fully-equipped kitchen makes living here a breeze. An operational Welcome Dover stove adds a cozy touch, complemented by a wood-burning stove in the living room, electric blankets on the beds, and hot water bottles for extra warmth during winter evenings. The cottage's lovely thick walls also ensure it stays beautifully cool during the summer months – no need for air conditioning, and for added comfort, there's a ceiling fan in the living room and standing fans are available in the bedrooms. Complimentary firewood and fire-lighters are offered to all guests. Nestled in the picturesque suburbs of Swellendam, our friendly resident animals - donkeys, sheep, and chickens - will warmly greet you on arrival.

The space
Enjoy the fully equipped kitchen that caters to various culinary needs, whether you're whipping up a simple breakfast or a gourmet dinner. Equipped with fridge/freezer, gas stove and electric oven, microwave, kettle and toaster. You'll find ample cookware, including saucepans, utensils, cutlery and crockery, ensuring you can prepare meals just as you would at home.

Wander outside to have a good old South African braai on your private stoep, looking out over the donkey and sheep enclosure. Take a dip on the warm summer days in the splash pool surrounded by lush lawn and enclosed with a wooden fence.

We'll make sure there is starter coffee, tea, sugar and milk when you arrive, that the ice trays are full and wood with fire starters for your first braai is stocked up.

Air-conditioning and fans for those hot summer months as well as heaters for the chilly ones will keep you comfortable all year round. There is free WIFI throughout and full DSTV so that you don’t miss out on your favourite sports and shows.

The Cottage has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed ideal for couples and the other with two single beds. In the lounge a double sleeper couch can be set up for extra family or friends, perfect for flexible sleeping arrangements.

The lights are always on thanks to our solar power & generator back-up. With gas stove and hot water.

Guest access
Guests are given one set of keys to the cottage and a remote control for the entrance gate on arrival.

There is off-road parking, for one car under a shade net carport. The parking area of the Cottages is monitored by CCTV cameras.

The splash pool is shared by both Cottages.

To make your arrival as smooth and easy as possible, please check the number of guests and ages of any children are correctly indicated on your reservation.

You are welcome to request a camp cot, feeding chair and/or a bumbo seat to be set up if you are travelling with little ones.

We offer a laundry service at R160 per load from Monday to Thursdays by arrangement before arrival.

Cleaning services are also on offer, Monday to Friday @ R170 per day, by arrangement before arrival.

Peace and tranquility is what Die Stal offers most of all. Die Stal, situated in the Hermitage Valley at the foothills of the Langeberg Mountains, 2,5 km outside the town of Swellendam.
Die Stal is an old milking shed which has been transformed into a luxury self-catering cottage. The cottage is located on a working farm with sweeping views of the Hermitage peaks, Eenuurkop, Twaalfuurkop and Elfuurkop.

The property is not on a public road and can only be reached via a private access. Die Stal is a converted dairy which has been transformed into a luxury self-catering cottage ideal for two people.

We are a working farm so during season times (November-December) we will have people picking berries on the farm. Guests staying with us are welcome to go pick fresh berries as well.
