Casa do Feitor (the Factor's House) is one of three charmingly restored air conditioned gems that sit within the 4-acre working estate of Quinta Vista Alegre where bananas and vines are grown and century-old tropical gardens are tended. Astonishingly, this oasis of tranquillity is found in the main tourist zone of Funchal, near the sea and Belmond Reid's Palace Hotel.

Converted from the old Billiard House, Stables and Factor's accommodation the cottage walls are of original stone and interiors are spacious, characterful and well designed with top quality furnishings and equipment. The large swimming pool is shared with the owner and their family (for a few days of the year this may include family children).

Casa do Feitor (Factor's House) has comfortable 1st floor accommodation with a large balcony, suitable for 2 guests. Accessed by an old stone staircase, the front door opens into a living room with sofa, 2 armchairs, a coffee table locally crafted from chestnut beams used in the Quinta, a desk, side tables, a TV with over 600 cable channels, including German satellite channels , broadband access and table lamps.

Beyond, the kitchen/diner has table/seating for 4, an electric hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle and plenty of crockery/serving/cooking/storage equipment. Sliding glass doors lead to the deck-floored balcony with wicker table & 2 chairs.

The bedroom (with king double bed) has a mahogany chest of drawers with mirror above and a full length mirror. The bathroom has bath with shower, basin, bidet, loo, heated towel rail and a fitted double hanging cupboard (with small safe).

Although the bedroom and living area are air conditioned, an electric fan is provided in summer and a portable electric heater provided in winter months.

The 4 acre estate of Quinta Vista Alegre has been in the Zino family for 70 years, the owners being the third generation. The main house (currently occupied by the owners) was built around 1867. It is a working Quinta growing vines and bananas. Much of the garden was laid out by an English family, the Stanfords, between 1902 and 1912 and Charles Thomas-Stanford wrote "Leaves from a Madeira Garden" about his garden and the island.

Opposite the entrance to Quinta Vista Alegre (where the cottages are) is the entrance to Quinta Magnolia, previously an British Country Club which is now Government owned. Here you can enjoy beautiful gardens, a fitness circuit, and two tennis courts, all set in an area of about 40.000 square meters. Just down the street you have the two most prestigious hotels on the island, Belmond Reid's Palace, and the Savoy Palace.There are no other villas in Madeira that offer this mix of tranquil character and traditon with a central sought after location.
Nearby are other excellent hotels and a good variety of restaurants, cafés, bars, and small supermarkets. You can enjoy sea swimming at the public Lido about 1 km by foot, or you may just want to walk along the coast in this area. Funchal town centre is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away (less than 2 kilometres).
Buses/taxis are close and frequent. A car is not essential but advisable to explore this beautiful island.

The cottages are adult only and children under 18 are not permitted. Maximum occupancy in each cottage is 2 people.
The advertised prices are based on a 2-person occupancy and supplements apply should additional people join you for any length of time.
To secure your reservation, a deposit of 30% of the rental value is required, or the full amount if within 8 weeks or arrival. Should you cancel up to 8 weeks prior to arrival only the deposit is non-refundable, and within this period the full amount.
Final details for check-in and driving instructions to the property will be sent 7 days prior to arrival. A contact number will be provided, and to be able to access the property, you need to phone this number as you are leaving the airport. It is your responsibility to contact and advise the number provided on the check-in details to advise any delays to the expected check-in time.
Check-in times - at the property - are between 16H00 and 19H00. For out of hours check-in, alternative arrangements will be made and an additional cost will apply.
Check-in and check-out flexibility will be applied where possible, but this will depend on housekeeping schedules and the departure and arrival days of other reservations either side of your stay; a definitive answer can only be provided within 24 hours of your arrival for check-in and your departure for check-out.

- "Why Bananas and Blackbirds? Taxi driver didn’t know the Cottages, but knew the ‘bananas’ and during our weeks stay we were constantly serenaded by Blackbirds! A spacious superbly equipped cottage with everything you could wish for. Spotlessly clean and comfortable; safe and secure. Views to the harbour (our cottage was on upper floor) and set in gardens and a banana plantation with a lovely large swimming pool. All this yet very central close to Reid’s and the Cliff Bay hotels. Beautiful gardens of the Magnolia recreational park are opposite with extensive walks, a fine restaurant and snack bar. Convenient for several bus routes into the town centre or west to Câmara des Lobos fishing village. The Red and Yellow hop on/off tourist buses stop near by which are worth considering for ‘orientation’ in Funchal but most attractions can be reached by regular buses with day passes available for 1, 3 or 5 days. Bus 81 to Nuns Valley not to be missed! By car the estate is easily accessible to all main routes. By the way a tour around Madeira by car is nowadays spent mostly underground!!!! We enjoyed a wonderful stay and are planning our next trip!"

Converted from the old Billiard House, Stables and Factor's accommodation the cottage walls are of original stone and interiors are spacious, characterful and well designed with top quality furnishings and equipment. The large swimming pool is shared with the owner and their family (for a few days of the year this may include family children). The front patio is shaded by vines and a shared seating area, surrounded by banana trees, has 4 chairs, table & sun umbrella, the perfect place for some light reading or for enjoying an evening drink.

Casa das Vinhas is on the ground floor and sleeps 2 guests. Entrance is directly into the living/dining room which is furnished to a high standard, some pieces locally crafted from wood from the estate. The sofa, two armchairs and the dining table seat up to 4 guests (ideal to share with friends/family staying next door) and there are table lamps for reading. There is a TV with cable & satellite channels, including German channels. The corner kitchenette has electric hob, combined microwave/oven, fridge, toaster and kettle and plenty of crockery/serving/cooking equipment.

The bedroom (with double king bed) has a fitted wardrobe with drawers (and small safe), vanity section with mirror and an en-suite bathroom with large shower, basin, bidet and W.C.

A private, electric entrance gate leads to a shared secure car park and a short, cobbled driveway. Casa das Vinhas is entirely on the ground-floor, ideal for those less mobile.

Linen, bath & pool towels and weekly cleaning are provided. There is a shared separate laundry room with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board available for guests' use.

The 4 acre estate of Quinta Vista Alegre has been in the Zino family for 70 years, the owners being the third generation. The main house (currently occupied by the owners) was built around 1867. It is a working Quinta growing vines and bananas. Much of the garden was laid out by an English family, the Stanfords, between 1902 and 1912 and Charles Thomas-Stanford wrote "Leaves from a Madeira Garden" about his garden and the island.

Opposite the entrance to Quinta Vista Alegre (where the cottages are) is the entrance to Quinta Magnolia, previously an British Country Club which is now Government owned. Here you can enjoy beautiful gardens, a fitness circuit, and two tennis courts, all set in an area of about 40.000 square meters. Just down the street you have the two most prestigious hotels on the island, Belmond Reid's Palace, and the Savoy Palace. There are no other villas in Madeira that offer this mix of tranquil character and traditon with a central sought after location.
Nearby are other excellent hotels and a good variety of restaurants, cafés, bars, and small supermarkets. You can enjoy sea swimming at the public Lido about 1 km by foot, or you may just want to walk along the coast in this area. Funchal town centre is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away (less than 2 kilometres).
Buses/taxis are close and frequent. A car is not essential but advisable to explore this beautiful island.

To secure your reservation, a deposit of 30% of the rental value is required, or the full amount if within 8 weeks or arrival, and the balance is due 8 weeks prior to arrival. Should you cancel up to 8 weeks prior to arrival only the deposit is non-refundable, and within this period the full amount.
Final details for check-in and driving instructions to the property will be sent 7 days prior to arrival. A contact number will be provided, and to be able to access the property, you need to phone this number as you are leaving the airport. It is your responsibility to contact and advise the number provided on the check-in details to advise any delays to the expected check-in time.
Check-in times - at the property - are between 16H00 and 19H00. For out of hours check-in, alternative arrangements will be made and an additional cost will apply.

- "We stayed in the “Casa das Vinhas” From January 25 to March 8, 2023 – Yes, 6 weeks! Lucky us! We thoroughly enjoyed the property. We are walkers; we walked over 600 km while we were in Madeira, so the location was ideal for us as it gave us a chance to warm up walking to the old town in the morning and a chance to finish off our days with a walk back up to the casa. The building itself suited our needs very well. It felt safe, secure, and peaceful and allowed us to relax and enjoy the tranquillity among the banana plants, amid the birds and butterflies and with visits from the 2 friendly dogs. The property managers were quick to respond to any minor issues as they came up and were a pleasure to meet. The housekeeper did an excellent and thorough job and the towels and bed linens are top quality. We cooked about 60% of our meals at the casa and had pretty much everything we needed, including the barbeque, which we did make use of. We never really figured out how to do more than just microwave with the oven but didn’t really need it anyway. Few rental units in Funchal have any form of central heat and we experienced some cold nights in January and early February. We made good use of the electric heater and hot-water bottle some nights! Other than those few nights, we were fine without a source of heat. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay!"

- "Prior to us going away, Heather forwarded us directions to the apartment which was very informative and also had photos of signage to look out for which was very helpful. Upon arrival Heather was there to greet us with a warm welcome and a nice gift bag of some groceries to get us started including some wine. She was very helpful with places to visit and where to eat as she has spent several years on the Island, so she knows her onions!! The bungalow we stayed in was ideal with a terrific view, we had all we needed, even a wood burner which came in handy as the weather was changeable and in the evenings it did get a bit cool. The bungalow apartments are up a very steep hill, but the most of the hills on the Island are very steep, and there’s many, an experience to be hold in a Fiat Punto. Plenty of room in the smaller bungalow which we had for two and well equipped, even had use of the underground garage to park our car. We would definitely recommend Banda do Sol to stay, very relaxing with a nice and helpful host. The pool area is ideal to chill and relax when the sun is out, sadly it was a bit to cool to try the pool but the children staying next door had plenty of fun the the cold water. The bedroom can be made up with 1 large double or 2 single beds & has mahogany chest of drawers with mirror above. The en suite bathroom has a bath with shower, bidet, basin, toilet and double fitted wardrobe (with small safe).

Linen, bath & pool towels and weekly cleaning are provided. There is a shared separate laundry room with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board available for guests' use.

These villas in Funchal are adult only and do not accept children. The swimming pool may be used between 09:00 and 17:00. Free Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth speaker are available for guests' use.
Although the bedroom and living area are air conditioned, an electric fan is provided in summer and a portable electric heater provided in winter months.

The 4 acre estate of Quinta Vista Alegre has been in the Zino family for 70 years, the owners being the third generation. The main house (currently occupied by the owners) was built around 1867. It is a working Quinta growing vines and bananas. Much of the garden was laid out by an English family, the Stanfords, between 1902 and 1912 and Charles Thomas-Stanford wrote "Leaves from a Madeira Garden" about his garden and the island.

Opposite the entrance to Quinta Vista Alegre (where the cottages are) is the entrance to Quinta Magnolia, previously an British Country Club which is now Government owned. Here you can enjoy beautiful gardens, a fitness circuit, and two tennis courts, all set in an area of about 40.000 square meters. Just down the street you have the two most prestigious hotels on the island, Belmond Reid's Palace, and the Savoy Palace. There are no other villas in Madeira that offer this mix of tranquil character and traditon with a central sought after location.
Nearby are other excellent hotels and a good variety of restaurants, cafés, bars, and small supermarkets. You can enjoy sea swimming at the public Lido about 1 km by foot, or you may just want to walk along the coast in this area. Funchal town centre is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away (less than 2 kilometres).
Buses/taxis are close and frequent. A car is not essential but advisable to explore this beautiful island.

If you have a car and are driving to your cottage, please follow these instructions. Using GPS will take you via old and less easy roads and unusual locations:
From the airport, take the motorway in direction of Funchal.
Leave at junction 9, signed to “Funchal, Hospital, and Porto” which you should reach in about 15-20 minutes. This can be tricky as you must be in the fast lane on the left and you bear left onto the slip road, which then curves sharply round to the right to join the other motorway merging from the right.
Continue down the hill to a big roundabout. Take the second turning off the roundabout, (i.e. straight on) leaving the Hospital on your right. (“Funchal and Av. do Mar”).
Carry on down a long hill to fourth set of traffic lights and turn right to “Lido”, over a wide bridge.
Immediately after the bridge, bear right up the hill, leaving a statue of a man flying through the air with a dove in his hand on your left, into Rua Dr Pita with Enotel (Quinta do Sol) on your right.
We are the “Quinta” on your left with three gates, 5, 7, and 9 at the top, behind a pink cement wall but the one way system obliges you to go up the hill to the roundabout to come down again and turn in to our dark green metal gate, number 9.
As you come off the roundabout the green gate is IMMEDIATELY ON YOUR RIGHT. (Look across as you come up to the roundabout). Someone will be waiting for you there but if not, please ring Buffy’s mobile (00351963209483) or whoever you have been asked to contact.
The gate is rather narrow and it helps if you can keep to the upper side on entering. Drive straight in to the parking lot on your left.

The ground floor consists of an open plan lounge, dining area and compact kitchen, and in an adjoining room you will find a large internal built-in barbecue, so whatever the weather you can still try your hand at cooking one of the locals favourite dishes - Espetada, succulent skewers of beef.

Casa de Campo is located a short distance away from the Village of Porto Moniz, the northwestern corner of Madeira, and on the spectacular north coast - considered the most beautiful on the island.

This will take along the river bed and climb up to the tunnel that links the south to the north of the island.
On exiting this tunnel, keep on the same road and you will descend towards São Vicente
At the first roundabout take the 1st exit and continue on this road.
You will find another roundabout please take the 1st exit through the tunnel.
At the end of the road another roundabout, take 2nd exit to São Vicente
Continue on this road until you will find another roundabout, follow signs to Porto Moniz.
Continue on the motorway (via rápida) following the signs to Porto Moniz (approximately 20minutes)
When you reach Porto Moniz, you will find a Petrol Station on your right, drive down and on your left you will find some car park spaces.
Please car park here and the owner will meet you here.

The location is great for hiking and sightseeing, it takes a bit of time to travel to Funchal and other locations on the eastern part of Madeira, though. One thing to keep in mind is that the northern part of the Island is much more cloudy than the sunny south. This was OK for us and it only takes a short trip with the car to a more sunny location. Maria gave us a very warm welcome and helped us to bring the luggage to the house. It is possible to go there with the car but the access is quite narrow and steep, but it is possible to park the car in 150m distance of the house. We can and will definitely recommend this beautiful and quiet location and if we return to Madeira there wil be no need to look for someting else! Many thanks!"

Walks & Levadas: The best way to reach the interior of the island of Madeira and enjoy the splendour of its untamed landscape is to follow the footpaths.
Levadas are water courses running round the mountains and were built by the first settlers to carry water to inaccessible farmland. Today they are one of Madeira’s greatest tourist attractions.

Attractions: Madeira has a number of attractions worth visiting during your holiday. The best-known and most traditional is the descent from Monte to Funchal in a wickerwork sledge. The nearest facilities (a restaurant and café) are a mere 700 metres away, and the village centre (three café/restaurants and the medical centre) is an easy 1Km walk away. 1 Km, by the large roundabout that provides access to the expressway and the motorway system, is a supermarket, café/bakery with cashpoint machine, a further café at the petrol station and a further couple of restaurants.

The nearest chemist is in the sleepy village of Estreito da Calheta, only 5 minute’s drive away (4 Km).

A few minutes by car will take you to the resort town of Calheta, 6 Km from the Quinta Inácia. With its man-made golden beaches, it is popular with tourists and locals alike. There is a beautiful marina and a selection of bars and restaurants, a good branded supermarket, a bank and chemist.
Calheta is famous for producing the best white rum ‘Aguardente’, a special ingredient of the typical Madeiran drink ‘Poncha’. If you are interested in knowing how the white rum is made, we recommend a tour of the ‘Engenho da Calheta’ the rum distillery where you can wander around and sample the produce.
Centro das Artes Casa da Mudas is a new centre located at the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea and was built to host superb art exhibitions, musical performances and other events.

15 minutes by car east is Ribeira Brava, the largest town before Funchal, that offers a rocky beach and sea access facilities in addition to a large supermarket and more shops, cafés, and restaurants.
Funchal town is an easy 45-minute drive on the expressway, and the airport a further 15 minutes onwards.

The “Kiwi House” property includes the main house “Os Ferrerinhos” and a second accommodation unit “O Lagar do Avô”, with independent use, which can accommodate a total of 14 guests in the two accommodations.

The main house was built in the 1930s and was more recently expanded and adapted for tourist accommodation, ensuring comfort conditions and sustainability principles in the management of energy, water and waste, but retaining several elements of authenticity of rural houses of the mid-twentieth century, namely furniture, windows, doors, floors and ceilings. The second building has a more modern construction but preserves in the living room an authentic wine press, which was used for decades by the family, and which today evokes the memory of the grandfather.

The property has been in the family for three generations and has been a family home and a regular meeting place for grandparents, children and grandchildren, especially at Christmas.

This property is in a rural environment that maintains traditional farming practices and has a wide view of the surrounding agricultural land, the mountains and the sea, where it is sometimes possible to see the island of Porto Santo.

Os Ferreirinhos is an independent house with an area of 200 m2 and comprises four bedrooms on the upper floor with a double bed and a private bathroom, plus a bedroom on the ground floor with a small double bed, a bathroom, an office space with a desk, a living room and a spacious kitchen with a dining table. The house also has a terrace with a wide view of the farmland, mountains and sea.

This house is equipped with air conditioning in some spaces, a fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher and kitchen utensils, as well as bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi, TV with international and children's channels, and other amenities to provide a pleasant and relaxed stay.



LOCATION

The property is in a rural area surrounded by agricultural land, close to the center of the village of São Jorge, in the northern part of the island of Madeira.

A few kilometers away, there are impressive cliffs, mountains and Laurissilva forest for nature lovers and hikers, as well as other attractions.

At about 1500 meters, a recommended pedestrian path begins, “Levada do Rei”. At 400 meters there is a restaurant and tea house, but within a radius of 1500 meters it is possible to find other restaurants and cafes. At 950 meters there is a grocery store.

The property has easy access to the main roads.

A car is recommended to this location and free car park is available in the property or on the street.

Casa Primavera is a recently renovated rural house, which is recommended for walkers, sports enthusiasts and anyone who wants to stay away from urban centres.

LOCATION

Ponta do Sol is located in the southwestern part of the island, which has the best weather conditions in Madeira.

A few kilometres away there are stunning cliffs, mountains and Laurissilva forest for nature lovers and hikers.

Set on the peaceful rolling hills below the village Prazeres, overlooking the sea, Quinta Inácia is a lovely new complex of apartments in Madeira with 3 Studios, the refurbished Old Cottage, and a lovely heated swimming pool.

As you enter the air conditioned very spacious and beautifully decorated L-shaped Orchid Studio, the modern kitchenette is on the right and opens to the living area with sofa-bed and dining table.
The bedroom area is to the right. This studio has a large contemporary bathroom with bath.
Patio doors lead to a private veranda that occupies the front of the studio, with table and two chairs and a portable barbecue.

The shared heated swimming pool is found on an open lower level, surrounded by a deck and lawn, with wonderful views over the countryside to the sea. Here you will find a lovely covered seating area, as well as shower and toilet facilities.

There are many walks around Prazeres and easy access to the plateau of Paul da Serra, with its many levada walks, makes Quinta Inácia perfectly located for walking in Madeira and for enjoying a lovely holiday surrounded by the beautiful Madeira countryside.

Nearby
The nearest facilities (a restaurant and café) are a mere 700 metres away, and the village centre (three café/restaurants and the medical centre) is an easy 1Km walk away. 1 Km, by the large roundabout that provides access to the expressway and the motorway system, is a supermarket, café/bakery with cashpoint machine, a further café at the petrol station and a further couple of restaurants.

The nearest chemist is in the sleepy village of Estreito da Calheta, only 5 minute’s drive away (4 Km).

A few minutes by car will take you to the resort town of Calheta, 6 Km from the Quinta Inácia. With its man-made golden beaches, it is popular with tourists and locals alike. There is a beautiful marina and a selection of bars and restaurants, a good branded supermarket, a bank and chemist.
Calheta is famous for producing the best white rum ‘Aguardente’, a special ingredient of the typical Madeiran drink ‘Poncha’. If you are interested in knowing how the white rum is made, we recommend a tour of the ‘Engenho da Calheta’ the rum distillery where you can wander around and sample the produce.
Centro das Artes Casa da Mudas is a new centre located at the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea and was built to host superb art exhibitions, musical performances and other events.

15 minutes by car east is Ribeira Brava, the largest town before Funchal, that offers a rocky beach and sea access facilities in addition to a large supermarket and more shops, cafés, and restaurants.
Funchal town is an easy 45-minute drive on the expressway, and the airport a further 15 minutes onwards.

Set in a vineyard estate of around 25,000m2, it is located in a transition zone between the laurel forest and the farmland of São Vicente. The terraced vineyards are home to the Tinta Negra and Verdelho grape varieties, which produce the famous Madeira wine.
The property is part of a group of houses where you'll find a shared swimming pool, sauna and several gardens with centuries-old trees, including a large oak tree over 250 years old and several species endemic to the Laurissilva such as its, vinháticos, barbusanos and loureiros.
The house is decorated with various details, in a fusion of the classic and the contemporary, in keeping with the tradition of a family home. The property has capacity for 4 people, with a bedroom, a bathroom with shower and a sofa bed.

In the vicinity of the house you have access to several trails and levadas, where you can take the opportunity to stroll and explore our fantastic island on foot.
If you want to find other places or activities, the city of Funchal is a 45-minute drive away.

- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also put a baby cot, a high chair and a baby bath if needed, but you should request. There are a first aid kit, extinguishers and fire blanket in the property.

- "The property is lovely. It sits above a small meadow and lemon grove high up the hill side with open view over the rooves the houses below you and out to the coast. It faces south west giving you full evening sunshine so after a days exploring you can sit on a small lawn at the front or up by the pool and enjoy the views with a drink. The property (i assume) is a converted old building so has a lovely feel but with a modern interior, and has all the facilities you would expect. And in February, when we were there, the wood burning stove was a joy. To add to this the hosts were always ready and available to help if needed and gave us a really warm and friendly greeting. We would happily go back there if we end up back in Madeira."

This accommodation is the ideal choice for a family or group of friends who wish to enjoy all that the island has to offer. This villa has excellent surroundings such as the swimming pool, its solarium, barbecue and leisure areas.

Inside, the common areas are spacious and tastefully decorated. Thanks to the direct access to the pool and its design in open space, the living room and the entire living area benefits from a beautiful natural light! From the living area, to the dining area and finally the games room, there will be no shortage of activities for the whole family.

The kitchen, also located on this floor, is fully equipped so that you have a practical and comfortable stay.

Upstairs, the villa has three bedrooms, two of them with double bed and one with separate beds. Through their windows, we can appreciate a little more of the vegetation that surrounds the house and the beautiful sea view that invites us to know the northern side beaches.

Another attraction near the house that you can't miss is without a doubt the unique Achadas da Cruz cable car. This is one of the most remarkable attractions on the north side as it is both leisurely and adventurous to go down to Fajã da Quebrada Nova through the imposing slopes of the island.

You also don't want to miss the various belvederes dotting the sea coast with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Also not to be missed are the various levadas, walks and trails that you can discover just a few minutes from the accommodation. Some of these are the well-known Levada do Moinho, Levada do Cabo and PR7 Madre da Levadas.

Being located in a more remote area of Madeira, the use of your own car is advisable as public transport is limited. This will also always be the best way to explore the other charms of the island.

Cottage located by the mountains of Câmara de Lobos in Madeira Island, with a view to the Atlantic ocean and to the west coast of Funchal.

The house is just for you and your companion. You will not have to share it with other persons.

The space
Built in the tradicional way, this cottage uses stone and wood as main materials.

The house has one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. It has also another area where you can cook bread or make a barbecue.

There are no doors dividing the bedroom and the living room and kitchen.

The rest of the property is agricultural space with vineyards.

Guest access
Full access to the house and the property. You can use the kitchen, the bathroom, the living rooms, the fireplace, the oven and the other things. If you come, you'll be the only one(s) living in the cottage.

Other things to note
The tap water is drinkable.

If you come with your baby, we can provide you a baby crib.

The check-in and checkout hours are not rigid but you should stick to them if there's other guests coming or leaving the same day.

There's three portable oil heaters you can move around the house if you feel cold.

If you come in August/September there's a chance it can coincide with the grapes harvesting around the house.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:

The cottage is surrounded by vines and other plants. These, as normal loose leafs in winter and so, the present situation of these may differ from the pictures.

Since the house is surrounded by vineyards and other plantations, it is normal to see animals and insects in the surroundings. These cannot be monitored and live in freedom so it is acceptable that they can sometimes enter the house. It's not because the house is dirty, it's just like that. Don't worry, there are no poisonous or dangerous animals in Madeira and none of them will harm you. Among them are geckos, ants, caterpillars, little spiders, cockroaches, centipedes or even small birds.

On the roof of the bedroom you should hear small noises when a bird lands there or a lizard passes by. Just relax.

This is a country house and not a city center apartment. If you are easily scared by a bug or small noise and don't feel comfortable, please don't choose to book this house in your visit to Madeira.

There are about 30 steps to get up to the house so if you are physically challenged this will be a problem.

There is a cat (and sometimes more than one) that is not ours nor does it belong to the house but that appears very often and likes to interact with guests. We don't let him into the house but it could/should happen. Keep this in mind if you are allergic or uncomfortable with cats.

In a neighboring house there are dogs and with that some noise when they bark. Other animals may also make noise such as crickets or birds.

During the winter the humidity increases and the temperature in the house is lower. Keep this in mind because the walls of this house are made of stone.

The road closest to the house is very steep and should be where you will find a parking space. If you are not used to these types of roads, which are common on the island, this will be an inconvenience. You must be a good driver and feel at ease.

We will not accept reservation cancellations after guests have entered the house if they are related to any of the points described above. Please read the entire ad carefully before booking.

My house is in a secluded location, accessible only on foot from the main road. The path leads over about 230 mostly low steps, along a picturesque levada, steeply up to the house. This unique location offers peace and relaxation, but requires a certain level of physical fitness. Please note that the ascent is only recommended with light luggage (carry-on luggage or backpack).

For your breakfast (snacks) you have your own fridge and a kettle. Tea and coffee in the morning for free!

A Municipal Tourist Tax of €2.00 per person per night is due, up to a limit of 7 nights. The Municipal Tourism Tax is waived for children under 13 years of age. The Municipal Tourism Tax is a legal obligation and reverts entirely to the Portuguese State, being one of its revenues.

Check-in must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. Scheduling with less than 48 hours will be subject to the availability of our team.

Check-in has a 60-minute tolerance of the scheduled time. After the 60-minute tolerance, guests will be subject to check-in rescheduling. Rescheduling the check-in has an additional cost of €25 (unless the reason is not attributed to the guest).

Loja da Lenha (the Old Wood Store) is one of three charmingly restored air conditioned gems that sit within the 4-acre working estate of Quinta Vista Alegre where bananas and vines are grown and century-old tropical gardens are tended. Astonishingly, this oasis of tranquillity is found in the main tourist zone of Funchal, near the sea and Belmond Reid's Palace Hotel.

The space
Converted from the old Billiard House, Stables and Factor's accommodation the cottage walls are of original stone and interiors are spacious, characterful and well designed with top quality furnishings and equipment. The large swimming pool is shared with the owner and their family (for a few days of the year this may include family children). The front patio is shaded by vines and a shared seating area, surrounded by banana trees, has 4 chairs, table & sun umbrella, the perfect place for some light reading or for enjoying an evening drink.

Loja da Lenha has comfortable ground floor accommodation for 2 guests. The entrance opens into a well-furnished living room which features original chestnut beams, one stone wall and a coffee table locally crafted from beams used in the Quinta. There is a sofa, 2 armchairs, TV with over 600 cable channels, including German satellite channels, broadband access and table lamps for reading. Beyond, the kitchen/diner has table/chairs for 4, an electric hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, toaster, and kettle and plenty of serving/cooking equipment.

The bedroom can be made up with 1 large double or 2 single beds & has mahogany chest of drawers with mirror above. The en suite bathroom has a bath with shower, bidet, basin, toilet and double fitted wardrobe (with small safe).

Linen, bath & pool towels and weekly cleaning are provided. There is a shared separate laundry room with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board available for guests' use.

These villas in Funchal are adult only and do not accept children. The swimming pool may be used between 09:00 and 17:00. Free Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth speaker are available for guests' use.
Although the bedroom and living area are air conditioned, an electric fan is provided in summer and a portable electric heater provided in winter months.

The 4 acre estate of Quinta Vista Alegre has been in the Zino family for 70 years, the owners being the third generation. The main house (currently occupied by the owners) was built around 1867. It is a working Quinta growing vines and bananas. Much of the garden was laid out by an English family, the Stanfords, between 1902 and 1912 and Charles Thomas-Stanford wrote "Leaves from a Madeira Garden" about his garden and the island.

Opposite the entrance to Quinta Vista Alegre (where the cottages are) is the entrance to Quinta Magnolia, previously an British Country Club which is now Government owned. Here you can enjoy beautiful gardens, a fitness circuit, and two tennis courts, all set in an area of about 40.000 square meters. Just down the street you have the two most prestigious hotels on the island, Belmond Reid's Palace, and the Savoy Palace. There are no other villas in Madeira that offer this mix of tranquil character and traditon with a central sought after location.
Nearby are other excellent hotels and a good variety of restaurants, cafés, bars, and small supermarkets. You can enjoy sea swimming at the public Lido about 1 km by foot, or you may just want to walk along the coast in this area. Funchal town centre is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away (less than 2 kilometres).
Buses/taxis are close and frequent. A car is not essential but advisable to explore this beautiful island.

The cottages are adult only and children under 18 are not permitted. Maximum occupancy in each cottage is 2 people.
The advertised prices are based on a 2-person occupancy and supplements apply should additional people join you for any length of time.
To secure your reservation, a deposit of 30% of the rental value is required, or the full amount if within 8 weeks or arrival. Should you cancel up to 8 weeks prior to arrival only the deposit is non-refundable, and within this period the full amount.
Final details for check-in and driving instructions to the property will be sent 7 days prior to arrival. Check-in and check-out flexibility will be applied where possible, but this will depend on housekeeping schedules and the departure and arrival days of other reservations either side of your stay; a definitive answer can only be provided within 24 hours of your arrival for check-in and your departure for check-out.

The Azalea is a lovely place for couples and solo adventurers.

It’s a one bedroom house located in Camacha, Madeira, Portugal with 2 floors, a fully equipped kitchen with Air Fryer, private bathroom, living/dining room and an inviting outdoor patio which is isolated from the surroundings. Ideal location for meals, to relax, enjoy the sun, or even the stars.

The Azalea has an extra bed which can accommodate a 3rd person – daily fee applied.

The space
“Casas de Pedra” is a small tourist complex offering 3 country houses: The Camellia, The Azalea and The Magnolia.
All are carefully retrieved from former stables, which nevertheless retain traces of its original architecture in basalt stone.


The area is surrounded by a large and beautiful garden with 5000 m2, full of exotic plants from temperate climates.
 During the Winter season and Spring camellias, magnolias and azaleas are blooming. In April/May rhododendrons are at their maximum splendour.
Our houses have a license of Agroturism, so if you love flowers and nature this experience it's perfect for you! Activities in the garden are also included in the stay.
These buildings are integrated in the same area as the main house, and are owned by a local and traditional family of surgeons who reside there through the year.


ACTIVITIES IN THE COMPLEX
• Participation in the elaboration of reproduction of the diverse plants:
Camelias, Rododendros, Magnolias and Azaleas (March and April)
• Biological fertilization activities (October, March and July)
• Pruning and Transplantation (November and December)
