- "This hotel was perfect in a way; there are a few notes ill make that i hope the ownerS can take into considerationThe reception had african masks and i thought maybe the owner is french. The arrival was a bit disastrous. No receptionist, no bell, no one in site. I waited roughly 20 minutes rather than being in the water before sunset which was my aim. When they guy arrived he didn't apologize and the worst part is that he took a girl that arrived after me and she was already checked in and had tons of questions for her ride to Cancun the next day.. which i felt was inappropriate considering i arrived first and i had not checked in. As the check in continued, the receptionist said he liked my eyes (ok fine) and then asked my age (so strange). Then he walked me to my room that was tight (not a lot of space to walk around) and he stayed there for over ten minutes (not exaggerating !!!) showing me the fan and the bathroom and telling me no one could see in the window in the bathroom and touching my shirt to show me i can hang my clothes... i mean come on.. who doesnt know what a hanger is. He finally left me alone but it was a little uncomfortable. I don't think he meant anything bad but it wasn't professional. Now for access to the rooms, there is a large step. If you have a leg or knee problem, it's a steep step. I am not sure why they didn't just add a smaller step like they did to get to breakfast. - "Casa Baloo was a little hard to find but it was worth it. Very new room with comfortable bed and pillows. We almost left without breakfast, but the young staff member walked us down the restaurant just a very short walk away" - "Casa Baloo is truly the definition of “home away from home” and a hidden gem in El Cuyo. From the second we arrived, the wonderful staff and owners, Lucy and Francisco, welcomed us as if we were family and helped us settle in. The hotel itself is an oasis, with beautiful amenities that are maintained so well they look brand new. The pool is a perfect way to relax and cool off after a hot day under the Yucatan sun; the rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean; and our favorite part, the rooftop, was the perfect spot for sunrises and sunsets, having a drink and even doing yoga (which was so kindly organized for us by Lucy and served as a wonderful way to wake up and get moving). It is an easy 5 min walk to the beach and the town is super safe to go out for dinner or a walk at any time of the night. There are great restaurants in town, from sophisticated chef owned places & wine bars to authentic mexican fare. However the best food we had at the Baloo restaurant which is a small, cozy, open air place under palm trees right next to the hotel. Breakfast and lunches are crafted by Lucy who has tremendous passion for food, great technique and used fresh ingredients. My tip: chilaquiles ! And that is why beyond the spaces and amenities, the attention to detail and genuine care and effort put in by the team is what really made this stay memorable. Can't wait to be back ! "

EL Cuyo offers a variety of different conditions all year around.

From November to March we usually get north winds deriving from the storms crossing all the USA and ending exactly over the yucatan peninsula. These days are usually stormy and the ocean gets rough and brownish in color, temperatures drop to 20 degrees Celsius and winds blow to 25 and more knots. Perfect for storm lovers!

From March to June we usually get beautiful days, in the morning we wake up with a flat ocean and no wind and in the afternoon the wind picks up. Perfect for paddle boarding and kiteboarding with or without hydrofoil.

From June to August the summer hits the Yucatan and we will get many beautiful days with light wind, calm ocean and blue sky, perfect for hydrofoiling or paddleboarding.

From August to November is the hurricane season.....unpredictable. During this time of the year we could experience several weather conditions from very beautiful to heavy stormy days where electricity is a luxury. We could also experience ‘El Cuyo Style’ days with limited to none electricity and phone signal. Adventure mode on!

We ask our guests to do their best to be conscientious and try to avoid to bring items with a lot of packaging. Unfortunately, there is no waste management plan in our village so we try to bring in the least amount of trash posible.
Here are some tips for doing that:

We will have 40 oz returnable beer bottles that you can refill at the local store. It’s the best deal and produces no trash.
The second best choice is to buy anything in an aluminum can instead of plastic. Cans are 100% recyclable and most often plastic ends up being burned.
Please plan to bring your cloth bags for shopping. Plastic bags are not recycled easily here and you can avoid a lot of plastic waste by bringing your own bags.
Bring your water bottle or buy one of our ‘No Mas Plastik’ bottles (so you can refill your water and not have to buy plastic water bottles.
Please use biodegradable sunblock and natural bug repellent. It’s better for you and the environment. Win-Win situation
Bring a rash guard and a good hat for sun protection.
In the Winter it can get surprisingly cold. Please bring long pants and a sweater.


We often experience extreme and fast weather changes. Many days are very calm in the morning with great paddle boarding conditions and then often in the afternoon the wind picks up. We have some very windy days and that's why El Cuyo is a kiteboarding paradise. In the summer, we get electric storms with rain in the afternoon and in the winter storms come in from the north and bring strong winds. We want all our guests to be prepared and understand that a beautiful part of El Cuyo is experiencing these natural phenomenons.

There are different ways to arrive but we do suggest renting a car or taking a taxi as it can be challenging and a long trip by bus. Once you arrive in El Cuyo you will find sandy beach roads with the town spanning only about 2 km from one end to the other. You can rent a bike to get around easily once you are here.

By Car
There are many rental car companies at Cancun Airport and you can easily book a car online before you arrive. Any economy car will work great all around El Cuyo. If you decide to drive to El Cuyo with your own transportation we suggest driving during the daytime, driving at night is not easy and in some spots, there is no phone signal. There are many speed bumps, especially during the last part of the drive. Take it slow and easy. Do not rush and enjoy the driving and little ‘pueblos’.

Fill your gas tank before starting the trip. There are very few gas stations along the road and only one in El Cuyo. Cash is king in El Cuyo. There are no ATMs or banks, the closest one is in Tizimin about 1 hour from El Cuyo.
Police checkpoints are stationed at the entrance/exit of reasonably sized towns. Checkpoints have speed bumps and you must slow down to pass through. Stop if requested. Ideally, have photocopies of your documents rather than originals to hand over if asked for them.

We are 250 steps from the beach , super close to go swimming and then return to enjoy the afternoon in the village or in your room.
