Although the immediate beach area isn't the nicest, a short five-minute walk takes you to a much nicer stretch of beach. Great location on the highway, where there are many good restaurants, bars, laundry, pharmacy, food mart, 7-11, massage, etc... there is a currency conversion booth next door that gives a great rate of USD to THB of 98.7%. Also very close to the main road that runs to the beach, where most dive shops are located, plus most great restaurants, bars, massage and souvenir shops are located. Compared to Patang / Karon / Kata this area is far more rural and quiet... a very laid back atmosphere that I enjoyed much more than last year down south. Motive: clean comfortable bed and pillows, extra towels provided upon request, prompt maid service. But what I liked best was the breakfast buffet, awesome. Each morning a different combination of rice and noodle dishes. Never had the same dish twice. Kudos to the cook. Eggs made to order by the chef, served with bacon. Fresh watermelon and pineapple. It reminds me of the Shanghai Mansion in Bangkok’s Chinatown. The storage space in my room was the most I can recall seeing in any hotel. I travel relatively light but this room had enough storage for two people to live there. The shower was huge and had a bench seat which I know some friends with some disability issues that would appreciate that. The A/C was strong, the shower was hot. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was very good. Excellent cappuccino. I ate two nights in the dining area and the food was both affordable and delicious not to mention dishes I had never seen before. Road noise was mentioned in previous reviews and with the A/C unit going I could only hear an occasional motorbike. I slept great both nights. My only complaint that I won’t let take away from my five star rating was four unruly guests from France. I heard them screaming all through the hotel at different times during the day. When they were in the small wading pool doing cannonballs and screaming I came down to talk to management about setting up a private table for me away from them. I was shocked to see the four of them were in their forties; I thought for sure they were 14/15 years old. Way to represent. The night manager was glaring at them as was a couple trying to eat. I don’t know if they were spoken to but they were gone when I came down for dinner. Aside from that amazing experience. "

- "We had a lovely 2 night stay at Krathom KhaoLak Resort. The hotel was very conveniently located close to the main road through Khao Lak but tucked back from the main street. There was no street noise at all. The room was clean and had air conditioning, a fan and a fairly private balcony out the front. The hotel is located about 150m from the bus stop servicing the Phuket Town - Takua Pa - Surat Thani route. It is 150 THB from Khao Sok to Khao Lak per person on fully air conditioned bus. Unfortunately the timetable cannot be relied on other than knowing there will be a bus eventually. There are many restaurants close by. All the ones we tried had beautiful reasonably priced Thai food."

The beach was very nice but sloping and the sea shelved off pretty quickly so that you were treading water within 4 metres from the shore. There is a floating pier that was fun to walk along when the waves were strong and undulating. For those needing to connect to Wifi, it was easily accessible around the pool and on the hotel lounge chairs that lined the property next to the beach. The hotel had a library, well stocked with mainly German and Swedish books but there was a small selection of English. The breakfast is good and plentiful, but early in the morning the birds were always sneaking in to eat the bread if a guest left it uncovered, so we were always making sure to cover it well. However, this can be a problem in many beachside hotels in Southeast Asia. A number of assorted restaurants are within walking distance."

- "Tucked away behind Moo 4, The Khao Lak Palm Hill Resort is a hidden gem. Don’t expect beachfront chain hotel luxury but do expect rustic charm and a warm, friendly welcome. Far enough away from the main road to be peaceful and tranquil but close enough to access everything that the area has to offer by way of shops, bars, restaurants and the beach. The hotel has 49 large rooms, all surrounding a lovely pool and with the forest as a backdrop. There wasn’t one day that we didn’t get a sunbed and we didn’t have to set our alarms to get our towels on early. The breakfast buffet was more than sufficient for our needs but, the main asset of this lovely resort are the wonderful staff. Everybody is helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much problem. The owner and her family live on site and couldn’t have been more helpful with any queries or issues (we had no issue but did have a couple of queries which were dealt with instantly). Nang Thing Beach is a 10-15 minute walk and these is a 7/11 3 minutes walk away. Bang Niang Night Market and The Tsunami Memorial are a 200THB taxi ride and there are enough bars and restaurants in the locale to occupy every taste. We will definitely be booking here the next time we visit Khao Lak (which will hopefully be soon) "

The electricity was a little spotty, had power cuts in the village a few times on our first evening. The room was also equipped with cutlery and plates etc. The bathroom was a little tight, but fuctional, the only problem was the sliding door that kept getting stuck. But it was quiet and peaceful so we always had a decent nights sleep. It was in a convenient location, about 400m to the beach, close to shops and restaurants, but the village itself was very expensive. The staff downstairs was friendly and helped us booked a tour for the Similan islands, however there was no welcome drink, and the cocktails served at the bar were not good. Overall, it was a comfortable stay, and I would recommend it. "
